Day 330: The Revelation of Prayer - The Catechism in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

As the Catechism reveals, we are made for worship and called to a relationship with the Lord through prayer. God is the initiator and wants us to walk with him as he “tirelessly calls each person to the mysterious encounter known as prayer.” Fr. Mike reminds us that just like Abraham in the Old Testament, the more we get to know the Lord through prayer, the more we become like him. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2566-2573.

Faith is all I have left. It is truly the only armor against the enemy. Jesus give me guidance please. The devil is attacking me. These past three years have been difficult on me. As a single mom things are hard on me both of my sons are autistic and I’m constantly struggling to provide the basic necessities for them especially now that I’m homeschooling them. People have put me down over my situation but God lifts me up! I suffered an heart attack two years ago and still battling lupus. Give me strength Lord as I constantly struggle to pay bills and constantly struggle to buy groceries for my children. BUT no matter what I face I will KEEP FAITH. Even though the devil wants me to give up. I will not! Jesus is King and I will serve him no matter my struggles.

Beautiful prayer, KB.🙏❤️ Someone asked me how could I be at peace considering the turmoil of the world & the Church, wasn’t I worried about the Pope making some wrong decision or the world spiraling into war. I said no I’m not worried at all because Jesus Christ is King & absolute monarch & everything is in His hands. Jesus said “Trust in Me” so I do. I do my part by praying, participating in the sacraments, & doing my best to live as He taught.🙏❤️

Since creation, God has called every being from nothingness. Even after the fall of man, God desired that we retain a desire for Him. Abraham is a model of prayer because he walked in the presence of God, heard and obeyed him. His prayer was a battle of faith because he continued to believe in the fidelity of God even in times of trial. Abraham dared to intercede for sinners with bold confidence. Throughout Genesis, God reveals His compassionate, loving, and just image of Himself Our God is indeed God of Promise. He loves us all. 🙏

Prayer sustains us. End of July as we studied the last rites my 88 year old mum died Now nearly 4months later my 93 year old dad has passed away. Prayer is keeping us strong Thanks To God I have peace that is beyond human comprehension. Both where unwell for about a week. Both had still been living independently, driving etc. God is good as we had a chance to say farewell and he had had the last rites

Six weeks ago I was stuck back on day 147. I struggled for several months to continue with my spiritual life. I feel blessed to say that I am finally on track today. I have struggled, questioned my own value of life but I learned nothing is more true than prayer is a response to God as the initiator. He knows how our heart and will always seek us.

Hi Diane 👋 I didn’t go to vigil Mass because it’s an extra long Mass since people are coming into the Church during it. I’ll go Sunday. Besides if I can get up in time for the 11:00 Mass they’re having a Eucharistic Procession after the Mass & I really want to go. Fingers crossed 🤞 I make it.🙏❤️

@@TrixRN Great! Mornings are very difficult for me that is why I usually go to the vigil mass. We only have people come into the church at the Easter vigil and at our mission church it is usually zero. At Blessed Trinity were I went when my mother was alive they have so many that half the church is filled with just the candidates and their sponsors. So I know what you mean about the length of that mass. Was the procession nice and did they just go around the block or what?

@@dianefrank3688 Nope didn’t make 11:00 Mass or the Procession.☹️ I had a bad night & slept for the 2nd night in my recliner. So, I went to the 5:00 PM contemporary Mass. it’s my least favorite Sunday Mass because the music is all geared to a younger audience, kind of like Protestant modern. It’s pretty crowded though, a lot of people like it. The Mass itself is very good, the youngest, newest priest does it & he likes to sing parts of the Mass. He’s very reverent & has great homilies; I really like that.

Love the analysis of how a prayer was born through Abraham's thoughts and plea. A prayer indeed feels like a battle of faith because we have faith but still would like to ask for help from God. It makes us vulnerable and gets us close to God. The encouragement near the end is priceless. We mustn't give up or be anxious but constant in prayers. The LORD God fights the battles for us. Greetings! to all of you. Greetings. It's Day 330. Our mysterious encounter with Holy Trinity is called the prayer. This is reciprocal call. A test of faith in the fidelity of God. Heart is a place of covenant, decision, and encounter and from the heart flow all the choices between life and death, to say yes or no to God. The symbol of prayer is battle of faith. God has heart of justice, compassion, and love. Amen! Fr Mike, this 4th pillar is my favorite! Prayer is everything….I was thinking why this section isn’t pillar 1, but then realized the Catechism saved the best for last. Hope you see this, Father…I’m having a catch up day; thank you for all you do for God. Prayer is a relationship with God, the Triune God, and like all relationships, it can be a struggle at first. Perseverance helps build this relationship and one day you wake up saying, “Good morning God! I’m so happy to spend this day with you. Guide my prayer, my thoughts, my words, my actions in accordance with Your Will” ; and then you realize, wow, prayer is like the air I breathe, the food I eat, but so much better!

Everyone of us searches for something transcendent. God has made us this way and calls us first. Our step is a response. All humanity is called to 🚶‍♂️ 🚶‍♀️ walk with God. Besides revealing himself to man, God also reveals man to himself in his heart. The heart is the place of decision, of encounter and covenant, and it's from there we say our 'yes' or 'no' to God. *Prayer is a test of faith in the fidelity of God.* The more we get to know God, the more we're supposed to become like him in justice, love,❤ and compassion and live it out. This leads us to trust God more deeply and in newer ways - its a process of purification to become more and more like God. If we are in the battle of prayer, we must stay in it and persevere until the end.😊

According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family.
