God has already given us every spiritual blessing that we need to resist temptation and flee from it. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Help us dear God to tear down strongholds that don’t honor You. I thank you that YOU are the One Who will continue to sanctify me. Thank you for brand new mercies every morning. In Jesus name I pray🙏🏾

Galatians 5:17-"For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." I love that Tara-Leigh said, "temptation will come to everyone, but when it shows up so does the God-given power to resist it."

1 Cor 10:13 assumes that following Christ includes being tempted; my temptation is not a sign of unfaithfulness, but of living in a world where “you will have troubles, but I have overcome the world” (Jn 16:33). God allows the temptation for me to continually rely on the power of His Spirit to overcome that temptation. God says that He shows His faithfulness in this. “Great is thy faithfulness”! (Lam 3:23)

1 Cor 9:24-25 ,... "Run in such a way as to get the prize...we do it to get a crown that will last forever." This stood out to me in relation to my health coaching business. 1 Cor 10:24, "No one should seek their own good but the good of others." I pray to be others-focused and not self-focused. 🙏🏽

We must live our lives in light of God being the head of everything. He has all power and authority. Everything belongs to Him. "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof" (1 Corinthians 10: 26, Psalm 34: 1). And, the Lord provides us with everything we need to obey Him, resisting temptation, and fleeing from idolatry. In ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:13‬, it says, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." The Lord is certainly faithful. Praise His holy name!

Paul teaches us how we should share the good news of Jesus, the gospel. He restricts his own rights in order to preach the gospel to more people and remove any stumbling blocks in their way. He denies himself freedoms in order to meet them where they are. Becoming all things to all people is not a pass to abuse God’s grace. Paul is restricting his freedoms. Not taking ungodly liberties with them. Living a life of discipline and purpose. All things are temporary, but the rewards of sharing the gospel are eternal. Idolatry can easily lead into sexual sin, grumbling and testing God. Idolatry of self kills many. An elevated view of self. We are all capable of these sins . We need to stay humble to guard against them. When temptation shows up in our life, it will always have a bonus gift of power from God. An ability to withstand that temptation. Men and women’s roles do not indicate value. They indicate assignment. We are all equally valued. Men and women are mutually dependent on each other and God. God can be trusted in all matters.

How many times have I felt ashamed because my burden felt too heavy and the scripture has been misquoted to me. The grief of losing two husbands, while I was still very young, losing parents, when I was very young and losing my only son my only child was not temptation. The hertz that come from the world, and other people that have nothing to do with something of our actions is not temptation. I truly believe that God is there to help us through any temptation. I also believe that whenever the hurts, the grief, the pain, the troubles of this world overwhelm us, what sustain us is knowing that he is with us always, walking with us, loving us, and even crying with us.

I still don't understand why the head coverings are not implimented in the church when Paul speaks to it directly and it makes no mention that there are exceptions. I feel like this is picking and choosing what should be followed when it was explained by Tara-Leigh. Any thoughts?

What helped me with this verse is the verse that comes after in 1 Corinthians 11:15, stating that a woman’s long hair is given her for a covering.

I used to wonder about this also but if I understand correctly, in today's recap, apparently the head coverings were equal to a wedding ring in the Corinthian specific culture at that time..

They were, for almost 2000 years, until feminism made it a hill to die on in the church. That said, I think it is clear that this is an area that God does not intend for us to use as a bully club, a reason for division (as though we can't make up enough of those on our own), or as an element of our faith that is salvific. I cover, however my hair is rarely "hidden", and I certainly don't feel I am somehow more spiritual than my sisters in Christ who don't. And they respect that this is my conviction.

A fejfedés a teremtési rend, és a dicsőség kérdése. (1Kor 11, 1-16). (1Kor 11, 15). - Krisztus feje az Isten. - A férfi feje Krisztus, - A nő feje a férfi. - A férfi Isten képe és dicsősége. - A férfi dicsősége a nő. - A nő dicsősége a maga haja. (1Kor 11, 7). A nő a férfin keresztül részesül Jézus dicsőségében. (Jn 14, 21).

🤔 So does anyone think that Paul's comment about how women should cover their hair when worshipping "because of the angels" is a reference to the angels that sinned in Genesis 6? I do, for one. There are Bible scholars who think this as well. Plus, if you add to this what ancient physicians believed about hair, it starts to make sense. According to Dr. Michael Heiser, "...[S]trange as it may sound to our modern ears, the medical knowledge with which Paul and his readers were familiar explicitly associated a woman’s hair with the conceiving of children. In fact, a woman’s hair was the female counterpart to the male testicles when it came to how women became pregnant..." (I won't go into the rational behind this, but it's very interesting! Anyway...) "The sexual nature of a woman’s natural head covering, her hair, makes covering the hair in church worship completely understandable. But Paul had an additional concern. He wrote: 'For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels' (1 Corinthians 11:8-10). "Paul wanted women to have their hair covered as a sign that they were sexually taken, that they belonged to a man, their husbands. Why? Because of the angels. Apparently, Paul was concerned that if women didn’t show this sign of sexual fidelity and 'ownership,' a woman could be at risk of sexual violation by angels. After all, it had happened before (Genesis 6:1-4). Paul didn’t want to see such a violation of cosmic order happen again." (~Michael Heiser in Reversing Hermon) Now, if you're anything like me, this raises a half dozen more questions! But that's the joy of studying the Bible - there's always something new to learn! And I'm thoroughly enjoying this chronological trip through Scripture with the Bible Recap! 😊👍
