Sorry for the gap in videos folks! I missed a couple days there due to family obligations (daughter turned 8, memorial day trip, and some other get togethers over the weekend). Love all the kind words and concern as folks were reaching out during that time. Sorry to keep you all from the train wreck that is my chess career :)

Keep pushing on, Patrick. Chess is like life and can be frustrating. Not only are you an obvious headwear fashion icon but you certainly provide enjoyment to folk and have certainly become part of my day - what it's all about mate. Don't take losses too seriously and enjoy the wins and appreciate that it's a journey. As for the negative stuff - it's piss easy to hurl insults from afar; click the ban or ignore button.

You lost to Mate in 5. Don't worry, the classical world chess champion just missed Mate in 2. There's hope!

It isn't a huge mistake all alone by any means, but it could help you to get out of the habit of putting your knight on c6 in front of your pawn. That tends to be frowned on in these lines for a couple reasons. In some lines the issue can be that you are castling king side, and white is lining up attacks on the H7 pawn, making the f6 knight vital but vulnerable. Going to d7 can support it with another knight, or park a knight on f8, defending that pawn without being easily attacked. In lines where that is not relevant you still will likely want to push c5 to attack white's center in the opening or middlegame, and the c6 knight prevents it (and often can't go anywhere useful). So depending what white is doing, sometimes you may want to get in c5 and then put the knight on c6, other times you will want to play nd7. And of course, nd7 also leaves your opponent will a less menacing threat when they advance their own knight to e5, because if they initiate the exchange they are just helping you develop the bishop (rather than doubling your pawns).

Once you learn to love being able to play c4 or ...c5 you stop putting your knight in front of your c-pawn and making it sad.

Forget the chigorin, this was the jobava London. You should really study it because it’s very easy to lose to, but I’m sure you just figured that out.

Patrick, look at how many pieces you have on their starting squares and how many your opponent does.

White's opening was crazy flawless and elegant. Not saying anything about cheating, I dunno, just saying it was incredible opening. Every move developed pieces while tightening the screws from afar. Until the bishop checked the king, all of the white pieces were on their own side of the board. Just goes to show effective use of the long range of bishops, rooks and queen. Good fight Patrick. This white opening seems super strong.

I’m only about half way through but it looks like you’re lacking development and in trouble because of that.

You could have tried c5 threatening d4 forking, though c6 instead of d6. Instead of Qg5+ Be7. You are defending, so defend. ...and the rest is silence.

Nooo, not the blue hat 😢 The structure you end up with after playing c5 when analyzing (roughly 16:44) sorta kinda looks like a french defense!

Every time this guy gets close to 1500 he has a miraculous 95+% rating game!?!? Not saying he's cheating but to go from 61%, 64% and 66% to a number of 95+% accuracy, to get back to mid 1500's seem extremely fishy! I'll add to this by saying when losing, he's playing at around a 1250 level and games he wins are consistently 2200+. Something really is not passing the sniff test. I'm not convinced your blue hat lost to a human in this one. I have a feeling you might get your points back for this particular game. I actually reported him for some really obvious games, one that he had 50% in the opening and then 98% middle game and 100% endgame! ??? what is that?
