I am a cradle Catholic in my 72nd year of life. I have never studied the bible. I attended Catholic schools for 10 years and never read the Bible. My parish has Bible studies, each session about 3 hours long and attendance required each session. For a number of reasons, I cannot attend this bible study. I was elated when I found this opportunity through podcasts. I was on course for about 10 days and then wasn't able to get back until a few days ago, now having caught up to Day 43. I have never been so inspired and look forward to each new session. I want to thank you Fr Mike and Ascension Press for putting this out there for all to enjoy!! And I do mean enjoy!! I have learned more about the bible and my faith in 42 podcasts than I have learned in 72 years of life. Thank you and bless you all!!

Thank you, thank you, Father Mike!!! God Bless, Maria Farris

This makes me so sad, and angry, that so many of our Catholic elders were utterly failed in catechesis. So many faithful Catholics know so little of the Bible, because the Church just didn't instruct them.

I am not a Catholic however, I really enjoy Father Mike, transparency. We so need to read and have an understanding of God's heart for us so that our hearts line up with His. This is my 3rd year reading the word of God, it is clear that HE orders our steps and wants us to have a closer relationship with Him, all of us whether Catholic or Protestant etc. God bless each of us that want to gain a closer relationship with the Father, keep reading, listening, praying, taking notes, meditating, sharing.

True that, which is also why we must definitively seek to be in full communion with Him, through obedience to His Word, Jesus Christ, whom established the Eucharist, where He is truly present, body and blood... and also his Church, his Catholic (universal) Church, that one must be a member of in order to be in full communion with God, by being part of His mystical body

I thank God for allowing me to find this site. I wanted so much to do the bible in a year, but struggled with it, especially in the "dry parts", such as Leviticus, numbers, etc. This broadcast helps me stay focused, and knowing that there are many others out there reading with me, as well of the guidance of Father Mike, has made this journey a delight . I pray that God bless Fr. Mike and all peoples who are going this journey with me, and I thank you God, for your Holy Word.

Eventually came back to the church gotten married to another Catholic into church I enjoy going to mass and I took my classes over again because I didn't know what I believed the reason I did not know I have a disability when I was going to school I was in special education classes because I have a learning disability. And it really helped me taking the classes over again online and I love Jesus Christ Church that he started given St Peter keys to the kingdom that means he gave Saint Peter Authority.

Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, and all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts and transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear and understand the word of God in the Scriptures that we may revere and treasure both the Old and the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Help us to be diligent students and faithful disciples of your word. May our hearts never grow dull and may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

That phrase 'anything you command us to do, we can do it. was their downfall, they were trusting in their own effort, and as we can see a bit further along in Exodus, they built and worshipped false Gods and 3000 people died. Contrast that to Acts 2 where the grace message is preached and 3000 were added to their number. The letter of the law kills, the grace and truth of Jesus Christ gives life. Alleluia ❤

In 1536, William Tyndale was strangled and burned at the stake for translating the Scriptures into English for the common man. He was accused of heresy and given an opportunity to recant, but used his last words to pray with a loud voice, "Lord, open the King of England's eyes!" Within four years of his death, several English translations of the Bible were published in England at the King's request, all based on Tyndale's work. If you have a Bible, read it, study it, memorize it, obey it and cherish it. Many died in years past because they believed that common folks like you and me should have God's Word in our hands and homes.

And as a result, we have a lot of Christ cults and people who don't understand the importance of history, context, or the original languages that the Bible was translated from. The church was not trying to keep the word of God from the common man, they were trying to stop people from reading Scripture and misinterpreting it. I am thankful to be able to read God's word, but I cry at all the people who have been led astray by false teachers who use this access to lie about the Bible's contents. It's a pro and a con.

You are one of God's beloved. Simply wow!!! As always, God bless dear F. Mike. I'd add an explanation about laws of morality. Everything it goes against God it has to do also with complete selfishness, people that only wants to use others or even God's creation in a complete selfish way, which means, I want this right now and when I don't want it anymore I can throw it like garbage. So different that when we use God's creation in the way God intended for our good and healthy benefit and as a mutual benefit as well.

O Lord have mercy upon us, sexual immorality is rampart in our society & has infiltrated into the Church. No man can change your truth, may you Lord remind us once again this word today in Leviticus. May we repent, may this Lent be a time of reflection from the Pope to the very least in Holy Mother Church for we are all broken & sinful. Correct our crooked ways & thinking. Lord have mercy on us. Bless our priests who are preaching the truth & please Lord correct those that are leading your people astray, we make this prayer through Christ our Lord amen.

Fr. Mike...thanks for this Bible study. I know we will meet one day, here or in the Kingdom. Either place, it will be wonderful to meet you, friend and Brother in Christ. As to this particular episode, at the end...you referred to...those who were attracted certain examples of immorality. One can correctly surmise that you would include in this group, those with same sex attractions. You are right to say that they also are beloved children of God. You stopped short, however, when in my opinion, you should have gone a step further. -- You are beloved of God, yes....and the Lord God, is holding out to you, a much better option. It involves self denial...which is exactly what our Lord chose for himself in His passion. So self denial is a good thing when done out of love. Any true love for another involves suffering on some level. Do you...we...love fleeting earthly things more then we love the Lord? If so, then we are on a very dangerous slide downward because we have let ourselves become involved in idol worship. We must let go of our love of disordered pleasures of this world what ever form they take. Just because we truly do love some-thing or someone, does not make loving it right. Amen? No, God has a much more permanent, far better option for you. It will again involve some suffering of self denial, but it is only temporary and the pay off is well worth it. Amen?

This is a great reminder of the laws of morality that help to keep humans different from animals and civil. The laws of the Kingdom of Israel and the Temple/ Tabernacle are also not present, but they do foreshadow the Church and the future governments. The blood of the sacrifice in the Old Testament is indeed the blood of Jesus from the New Testament. It is also true that if anyone was indulged or was suffering from any of the wrong deeds mentioned in the law, we are still children of God, and He loves us and wants us to repent, and follow Him. It's never too late to follow God. Thank you so much for this analysis and wisdom, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you all and the fellow listeners

We are already 6 weeks into this podcast. I say this all the time, but this podcast has flown by so far and I continue to look forward to hearing the Lord's Word every day. Exodus 24 shows Moses and Aaron joining God at the top of Mount Sinai along with 70 other of Israel's elders. Moses tells the Lord's commandments to the elders and builds an altar to the Lord at the bottom of the mountain. The elders each make sacrifices at this alter and they proclaim their continuing Covenant with the Lord. God summons Moses to receive tablets of stone with God's Law. Moses spends 40 days and 40 nights in the Lord's cloud on the top of the mountain. As you mentioned, the modern Catholic Mass constantly proclaims our New Covenant with the Lord in a way very similar to that of the Israelites in this chapter. Thus, it is important that we regularly attend Mass to continuously glorify God and to continue our part in the New Covenant. Leviticus 17 proclaims the sanctity and holiness of blood. God outlaws sacrifices outside of the tabernacle and sacrifices by unappointed priests. God prohibits eating blood "for the life of the flesh is in the blood." As a result, the blood of animals is to be respected. Leviticus 18 contains God's Laws on sexual morality. God prohibits incest, sex during a woman's menstruation, adultery, h-mosexual sex, bestiality, and other immoral sexual behaviors. God states the reason for these laws is so that the people will not defile themselves and the land. As you mentioned, these laws of morality do not just apply to the Israelites but to all people throughout the land, because any immoral behavior ultimately defiles God's land and our souls. Like you said, we are God's beloved and as a result God provides us with these Laws so we can worship and glorify Him the way He intended. Psalm 78 is titled A Contemplation of Asaph and it has a whopping 72 verses so get your popcorn out. It starts by addressing the people of God. It warns younger generations not to repeat the mistakes of their elders. Specifically it warns of the fate of the children of Ephraim who forgot the Lord's works. Thus, the speaker reminds us of the wonders God performed to allow Israel's Exodus from Egypt. In spite of these wonders the Israelites witnessed firsthand, they were still sinners. God grew angry at their mistrust but still gave them food. This shows God's Mercy towards humanity in spite of all our brokenness. The speaker laments how the Israelites remained stubborn and acted unfaithfully. However, God still beat back His enemies and shepherded the Israelites. This incredible story reveals God's Heart and God's Mercy towards us. Despite all of our sin, God continues to provide us with opportunities to grow and to become righteous. Thanks be to God! Day 42 - 2/11/2022

Good lesson. Leviticus 18 is one of the reasons I have begun RCIA classes and left the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer does not reference Leviticus 18, Romans 1:18 thru 32, and 1 Corinthians 6:9 and church leaders DO NOT consider homosexuality as a sin. Consequently, homosexuals tend to flock to the Episcopal Church where they are told their lifestyle is OK.

I read my Bible on my own, then I listen to this podcast while following along. It is great to see what I miss when reading my Bible twice. Also, your explanations are amazing, Fr, how you are able to tie the Old Testament into the New Testament

I am so disappointed in my Catholic church that they no longer offer the blood of Christ. I stopped attending that church and now do the online mass with Father Mike. I feel guilty about that, but the Catholic church has changed so much. I am really disappointed. This is why I am so happy to have found Father Mike.

It's a mortal sin to miss Mass without a valid reason! You receive the Precious Blood when you receive His Body! There isn't a separation.

Loving this pod cast more each day. Ive never read much of the old testament except for the psalms but i didnt realise until now how awesome is leviticus. When you talk about the blood and water on the altar it reminds me of the divine mercy. There is an altar at the shrine of the divine mercy at Stockbridge MA that has on it the words blood and water. Also loved psalm 77

What a beautiful prayer that was. Wow! re: the prohibition against homosexuality in Lev 18, I have read that this is a mis-translation of the ancient texts, that the prohibition is actually against pedophilia (sex with children). I am not saying that I believe what I've read, but I am curious what Father thinks of this. I am a homosexual, currently celibate, but it's difficult. I am worried about my salvation. It's horribly frustrating. I love my Faith, but this is a lifelong delemma.

Stay strong, stay pure…deny yourself and offer up to the Lord. Go to confession and clear the past. Fight temptation! I am praying for you. As long as you are not acting on your desires, you are free from sin. God loves you no matter what, but he does not love the sin. The sun will lead you away from Him…just as my sins do to me. It’s hard! But with Him anything is possible. Blessings.
