I really appreciate you focusing on rhythm, while I know I have a pretty good feeling for rhythm overall I hate having to focus on it and count along and use a metronome, but I know it's important too. You always know what to teach us!
@BernadetteTeachesMusic5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Luisa. I know that at one point we will be so good at rhythm and it will be such a natural part of our lessons, that we won't even notice. Just like the island strum was something out of our comfort zone at one point but is now a natural part of our classes.
@thespas96785 жыл бұрын
Os anyone else a little bit overwhelmed by the new rhythms and strumming patterns!!! I struggle with it a lot, I’m so stuck on the island strum that every time I have to play something else I keep coming back to it. Just thought I’d share in case someone else out there is feeling the same way!!! We got this!!!! I haven’t posted hey oh but I’ve been practicing every day!!! I’m hoping I’ll be able to do these two before the end of the challenge!!! 💪
@11jokerchen115 жыл бұрын
I have exactly the same problem! During the Beatles challenge, at the end of Hey Jude when the strumming changes, whenever I try to play AND sing I just keep falling back into the Island strum even if I can strum the other strum forever without singing. I think we really do need a strumming challenge to hone this skill!

Maria, even I get worried when teaching these because I think, "what if this is too scary and they leave my channel?" but I also know that no one grows in their comfort zone, so I have to push past the fear and head forward anyway. Think of what an awesome musician you'll be after you master these strums!

Try this: when I'm strumming with the play-along, 1. listen to the strumming pattern the first time 2. listen to the playalong again and this time clap when I strum 3. listen again and this time move your hand (pretend to strum with no sound) 4. try to strum along :)

Great teachings today (as always) Seeing the easy notes/chords in the description I thought cool, got this. Seeing the first strum pattern was a reminder, that yes, this is a challenge series so it balances out nicely. After all this time I have just become aware of how your right hand is in constant motion only making contact with the strings based on the strumming pattern. I've been playing the patterns by ear and focusing on chords and chord changes. Now I need to be conscious of this constant motion thing as well. I guess it's a good thing that I can't sing so I don't need worry about singing and strumming together. :)

Yes!!! Our hand and our brain should constantly be thinking and feeling this subdivision of the beat. We feel the 1 2 3 4 almost naturally and now I want us all to get comfortable with the 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & and the best way to do that *(I think)* is to feel it in our strumming hand and to think about it while we play!

HAHA now that would be crazy but so much fun!!
@BernadetteTeachesMusic5 жыл бұрын
"If our hands can clap it then our hands can play it" -I wholeheartedly agree! If our hands can clap it and feel it, we have internalized the rhythm and can strum it. This challenge definitely had the most variety in the strumming hand. I think most of the other challenges have really played it safe with the strumming. I'm thinking about how we could tie all of the songs together.

To bad its not the whole song. I try to play this for the wedding of a very important person and instead of learning it fully from you, i need to search and find some other mp4 to connect the full song :( very happy with the more easy chords though. Thanks for sharing.

Who played the finger picking part? Did you pre-record that and play it back to accompany your strumming?

i have trouble strumming up? is it muscle memory or is it me?
@BernadetteTeachesMusic5 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. 🤔 Can you tell me more? I think that strumming up and down should happen with the sides of the index finger. On the way down, use mostly nail, but make sure it's the half of the nail that is closest to the floor when strumming. When strumming up, it's mostly skin, with a bit of the index fingernail.
