Cheers Dave. It was so tough, and just the start of my issues. Everything is so much harder at altitude.

I would never recommend an agency and local operator whose itinerary is too fast and dangerous causing clients to get AMS. There should be more flexibility for decent acclimatisation. Sad fact is that trekkers want short treks to save money and agencies offer those, causing unnecessary suffering, sometimes even death.

One of the reasons I chose the trek I did was because it climbed slower than others I looked at. I think I was just unlucky and picked up a stomach bug and along with the altitude factor, made me rough. Most of the group were fine with the altitude, but obviously it effects different people in different ways. We saw many solo trekkers heading up as we were going down that were planning to gain too much elevation in one day.

@@danpattinson Yeah, could be just bad luck, and if you had not been to those altitudes previously it could be genetic also. In my experience about 15% of trekkers start to have problems at above 4300m altitude. Maybe I was to hasty in my judgement. Better luck next time!
