Day 9: What does it take for you to fall in love with a wool, and what are the requirements? Do you need to work with it for a long time and make a full project with it first? Do you just respect the breed characteristics of a wool and that's the same as loving it? I want to hear your thoughts! I think I just love most wools. :)
I don't spend enough time on myself so this challenge will focus on me spinning for myself (mostly) and sharing some personal projects--and personal growth with y'all.

Thanks for watching today's update! Sorry for not being able to do a premiere, but I worked all day today as well and my laptop was slowed down from the Baldur's Gate game update. I appreciate everyone who has supported my channel by purchasing from my shop...both on Etsy and expertlydyed.com. All of your purchases help me keep my family fed, and I'm happy to send supplies to new homes. Make the world beautiful today!

I like something with little to no VM, that impacts my love of a fiber. I also like something that is smooth to draft and doesn't take a lot of effort. Pretty much I like just about everything I've ever spun. My least favorite spin was very greasy and left my hands dirty. I didn't enjoy that spin but I loved the final yarn.

Once again, your video is artful and beautifully crafted. Concerning the wool question, it’s an unusual fiber where I live due to the unnecessary warmth that wool provides. So, I am learning which I prefer to spin and hope to trip over “best use and practical application” of the final product for South Louisiana.

I am still at the try it you might like it stage of my spinning. I must really like ramboullet because I have been on this fiber island way too long. The salmon brown that im all disgruntled about is my mistake in being a bit too aggressive with. I have some left that is just fine and ill get to know that wool fiber in a different manner. I do want to spin for socks and have been looking a lot at the properties of different wools. So i think it just varies.

Hi Jennifer, I hope you're OK and that the Chocolate Shop wasn't too busy.❣ That's a great question, I had a Braid that was gifted to me last year when I was Spinning on Drop Spindles. It was so hard to Draft out that I left it. I now have Nano 1.1 that I decided to try it on today, well it's still not Drafting. I thought that I was having trouble on the Spindles due to being a New Spinner. So my answer to your question is that it needs to be easy to use. Other than that I'll try anything out. Happy Spinning and TDF 🐏 🚲 Take care and stay safe Fibre Friend Lots of love and hugs Jen xxxx ❤ 🧡🐑🫂🧡💕

Try reversing the end of the roving you're drafting from. It can be directional

I seldom buy roving, preferring to start with a raw fleece. Most of my spinning last year was with a dark grey fleece from a Romney ewe named Beetle who lives about two miles from where I used to live in Vermont. Do I love Beetle's fleece? I don't know if "love" is the word, but I will say that I loved every minute washing and then spinning it for various projects I knitted over those months, remembering my years in Vermont and my sheep farming friends there. I can't separate Beetle's fleece from Beetle herself and the context of her life, and that matters to me. Do I love this year's fleece? I'm not sure yet. First of all, I don't know much about it. In January, at an antique mall, I bought a box with a little more than two pounds of carefully, tightly, packed Shetland locks, some white, some brown, and some grey. There was a note in the box dated December 1994! explaining to the woman whose address was on the box, how to spin the locks, noting that she wouldn't need to wash them. After almost thirty years in that box, I felt I probably should wash them, and they are absolutely gorgeous. Do I love them? I'm not sure, but I am certainly loving the spinning process, once more savoring what (little) I know about the shepherd and the spinner responsible for my ending up with such loveliness. This fall I'll be knitting a Shetland hap with my mystery fleece. I've been lucky with Beetle's fllece and the mystery Sheltand fleece, both clean, relatively v.m. free, and easy to spin. Easy to love, if you want, but hard for me to separate the fleece from its history, its story.
