A lot of foolishness (valuing the wrong things) out there incl and esp yours most truly (ymt), Lord let me gain wisdom, not to get a pat on the back, so that I can raise my family better.

there are trends out there, like streams in the land each going their own way. - make sure you identify and follow now the "history is on our side" people (because they are just one stream) but the streams that have decades and centuries and millennia behind them. Don't aim to be ahead of your time - yes, identify the times and the trends but evaluate them - some are empty and hollow

Without actually hearing it from him I've lived his philosophy about life. At 68 years of age, he was exactly correct life is an adventure that should go on and on as such. I've certainly made my life that way and compared to my contemporaries I find a heck of a lot more satisfaction in it than do they

@Kelp Farming he was rich, lived long, looked happy, had a lot of succes with in business and with women, became an icon in pop culture. And there are people who still try to belittle him even after his death because they feel threatened in their ego.

@Kelp Farming i don't agree with his lifestyle and you don't have to either, but you cannot judge him for the way he wanted to live. He lived his life to the fullest and made it the way he wanted to make it. If you think that he was this sad lonely old man, you are lying to yourself.
@sflaw5581

@Kelp Farming idk all the people you mentioned but manson was a criminal, not comparable. And the person who talked about this " incontinence" story was a playmate, not a reliable source, those girls would do/say anything for money. And even if it was true, most people go through medical problems when they get old just like hugh (supposedly) but without the money, the mansion, the career, the fame, the playmates...
@sflaw5581
@sflaw5581 4 жыл бұрын
@Kelp Farming that your opinion on him, not facts. When playmates where around him, he knew what they wanted, and they knew what they where getting themselves into. But the two are not equal. And like i said, i dont agree with hugh lifestyle, but i respect it. If i didnt have my believes and values, i would have tried to be the same as him. And please stop joking about his health issues, when did it became ok to make fun of people for their health ?

He comes across as that doesn't he, and I have to doff my cap to someone who can do that. You know what builds civilization. It is the regular nine to five husbands who punch a timeclock or work a not too glamorous salaried job for year and years. Hugh Hefner is not something to aspire to, he is living a life few have the opportunity to live. Most of us are regular guys. OK give it to him for not failing in an interview, all I'm saying is he's off on his own there, not representative of the hoi polloi (common people).

What ever you think of Hef I think you have to agree he was very intilectual and honest. He was honest about himself and analyzed his own behavior. People say they are "living the dream" and Hef really did. He realized how lucky he was to be able to do that.

And who really understood at a very nuanced level the role he and Playboy were playing in cultural change.

@@HomeAtLast501 Check out his biographies on KZbin. He's fascinating and confusing at times. Like other people have posted, he grew up in a repressed, Puritan, fundamentalist Methodist household where there was no affection of hugging or kissing shown. He escaped early on into the dreams and fantasies fulled by the movies and music. He got ahold of Alfred Kinsey's "sex and the american male" booklet and figured out a way to jump start the sexual revolution and profit off of it and become wealthy and famous at the same time. His first fiance had told him she had been having affairs so ever since then he had trust issues and commitment issues with women

Day was, at times, a brilliant interviewer. Here, he subtly peppers his questioning of Hefner with some tough challenging questions - and Hefner clearly stumbles when he is forced to confront some of the inconsistencies in his claims. But Day, the consummate interlocutor, does not immediately follow up with the hammer blow - but lets things ease up for a while, only to deliver another tough question a bit later.

I guess if you want to be a devil's advocate. The king of nyphomaniacs. Hefner's real philosophies of his Playboy Magazines was to do as many beautiful women as he could before he crocked. Intellectual garbage. The magazine was based on lies. Why was HH always acting like a god. HH picked the women for his magazine. A genius that used the allure of beautiful women to make his millions. Women are just as beautiful with their clothes on. I would love to see a Hefner with a bunny tail.

@@TheLaurajlee Not to mention that now the truth has emerged and so many of the women who were there have said they were drugged, raped and passed around. Including the beautiful Dorothy Stratten. This is all just a glossy academic and anthropologic facade for the rape and exploitation of women. Many of the women wondered as badly as they were treated if Hef actually hated women and if men were his actual true romantic love, as attested by Dr. Mark and other men that he slept with.

In this he shows how much of a clever man he was, in the Letterman interview, he is the man who we come to know with the mansion and his lifestyle. Hef's comments at 20:01 and after are so important. Think about it, without sex there would probably be no cities, families, or relationships. Sex motivates us to be our best selves. We are hardwired to have two sexes and our existence depends on that.

I wonder if Hef knew then that he would live until his 90s lol. Though there is controversy about some of his personal behaviors, I am thankful for his contribution to the sexual revolution which did get the ball rolling on many social issues. Sex is a natural biological thing that has been celebrated and documented for centuries. I think his magazine was more artistic than others for sure, but it has also led to some unrealistic expectations of women. Compelling interview.

read some of the srories about the way he went through (sexually) and controlled young desperate women and you may change your tune. Sure he may have had a more progressive view (for the time) on being open and honest about sex and he was obviously an intelligent guy. But that doesn't stop him from being a manipulative, opportunistic chauvenist who creeped on MUCH younger women (groups of them) till his dying day. Obviously the girls did it freely and to further their own agendas, but his behavior and the way he treated them paints a picture more of a lecherous old chauvinist who enjoyed controlling people rather than some sexual revolutionary.

What a fantastic interview. I have no idea what happened to the intelligent and pragmatic man as he grew older; he became 'childish' as he aged. Wow! he missed the boat while taking his personal sexual misadventures just too far. He could have been a role model for the younger generation and his children, inspiring them to go after their dreams however controversial they may be, but ended up being a 'butt of jokes'- Ricky Gervais-Golden globes

Hefner has helped orchestrate the moral downfall of our society. America is in much trouble today because it has lost its moral compass with a collapse of the American family, materialism, and narcissism and doing what you want no matter the long term consequences.

society was very different in the sixties than it is now. it was a very conservative world. things like masturbation, sex outside of marriage, homosexuality were seen as sick and perverted.

That's true. If one goes back to the 1950s, it was widely perpetuated that it was basically impossible to be preternatually "homosexual" without also, By DEFINITION, being a "communist", which by definition was the definition of "anti-American".

+Anglovox During Nazi Germany, gays and lesbians were persecuted and killed during the holocaust along with the communists and the jews. But it didn't stopped there. By the end of WW2, the CIA illegaly bought Nazi scientists and weapons to the U.S.A during ''operation paperclip''. It's a well known fact. Also, this is the reason why John F. Kennedy got shot. He spoke about ''secret societies'' and ''secret oaths''. No one knew what he was talking about. The CIA papers were declassified before his death. Kennedy was reffering to the CIA and their secret Nazi agenda.
