Love you Zack! I think Hef hated women deep down. I'd love to know what his mother and father were like. In one of the early episodes, they said he got rejected by a women he was into. Then started the whole playboy, pipe smoking pimp thing.

Bobby was Hef’s personal assistant and she was also the one that would transport the drugs from where they came from she would fly them back to the mansion… when the cops arrested her she wouldnt say a word to them due to her loyalty to Hef … Bobby killed herself because she wasnt saying a word to the police and they were applying more and more pressure to her to talk and she took her life … she didnt wanna talk or spend time in prison for trafficking drugs and i think they were trying to get her for distribution as well … i dont think Hef had Bobby killed but i do think he threatened her not to open her mouth !! She was extremely loyal to Hef she went were he went business wise , she was always by his side and handled alot of shit for him and u already know she held his secrets they were very close !!! Even people around then would say the same .

You kids don’t realise how things were back in those days. Our mothers weren’t allowed to work when they got married or pregnant, depending on the job. Even me, in my 60s, had to leave my career at 7 months pregnant. Sex was the missionary position in seperate single beds for many so along comes Hef & his bunnies and it was considered glamorous & risqué and it coincided with the 1960s when women had access to the Pill so started sexual liberation. Hef might have had some trouble with the feminist back then but he wasn’t out there trolling for women. These were ambitious women who wanted to bag themselves a rich husband. Let make that VERY clear.

@@justplainzack don’t we see that ALL the time. People get a whiff of power and /or big money and they change & not usually for the better it seems. I guess we just don’t hear about the other ones. I had friends who were air hostesses, called themselves space waitresses back then in the 80s & 90s. If someone was reported as looking a little heavy they were flown across the country to head office to be weighed. Very humiliating. Different times.

Always been fascinated by playboy and def need to see these documentaries on it all. I remember after he died there was stories of tapes he had and wonder how fast they were destroyed. And stories of people at the mansion died. Its scary and as a kid I remember we all wore playboy logo, crazy to think back to

I'm older & remember most of the men's magazines (that's what they were called) came out. Playboy was the classier one, Hustler the slezzyest one. Anything else was in the middle. Playgirl came out much later to equal the market out a bit, "something for the ladies" was the market target back then. Burt Reynolds was in that one. It was actually fairly classy as well. As far as Hef went, he was so afraid of being alone & old age, the girls were his way of escaping reality (as well as his public persona bringing him attention) He had the money to bribe them with. I wouldn't do him on a bet for any vast sum of money or possible fame. I don't put the girls who did down though. Not at all. No doubt a lot of crap went down there, I just wish the girls went out the door they came in - faster! I enjoy your book clubs & interviews, I started watching recently. I'm a fan of all three of the original Girls Next Door. I'm glad most of the really dark stuff eased off before their time & the original crap they dealt with ended. Hef & his PB world had already lost relevance to the point of going out of business, the end of everything was inevitable before his death. Side bar... Considering the subject matter here, Christian church ads. lol
