I used this song in my first wedding 50 years ago. And as I walked thru divorce God spoke to me, and multiple trials since then. He is still with me Day by Day and Thru each trial and tribulation.

I can't stop listening to this. I am glad you also wrote a bit about the hymn writer, it helps to put things in perspective. I guess that is one reason why I like hymns, most of the writers have been put through the test and wrote from the heart and God's word is pouring out of them.

this song is so touching. may GOD bless the composer and the all artist sung it out for our heart. It cant get out of mind and heart I find myself meditating the song even without knowing the words to sing out. please may all who hear this song feel blessed. AMEN AMEN AMEN. Quite a catchy song. Can't get it out of my ear, even though I listened to it a week ago or so. Thanks a lot for the lyrics and the story behind it. That's the main reason I prefer the hymns to the modern Christian songs: many hymns were written in special life situations, the songwriters usually experiencing hardship.

Lina Sandell from Sweden wrote these lyrics in 1865. Oscar Ahnfelt wrote the music. the most common translation is by AL Skoog. original title "Blott en Dag". Lina Sandell blessed us with more than 600 hymns, including "Children of the Heavenly Father".
