Very inspiring back story Janice! Good on you for backing yourself, particularly away from the traditional Asian career. It takes a lot of guts and many of us probably wished we had some of that!

Hi Janice, I’m a lawyer and got a kick to learn you were once a lawyer, too. I’ve been watching your vlogs since the pandemic days. In about 18 months I plan to leave the law and transition to my passion, aviation. As a total tangent, my fondest memory is from 2022, flying Qantas A380, 8 hour layover in Sydney on the way to Bali. Sydney is gorgeous! I know you will excel in your goals.

Hi Janice, I found your channel when I returned back from Sydney to Norway. I wanted to learn more about restaurants in Sydney and food in general. It was 2019, and you were at the beginning of your content creator journey. I saw most of your videos, and I like them very much. Big hug from Norway.

I did a law degree, when I graduated I was an art gallery manager in England. Moved to Sydney and was an online content producer, search engine marketing manager and now an illustrator. My childhood passion was drawing but being from a Chinese immigrant family doing a creative career didn’t even cross my radar - I think there’s an innate drive for us to be really academic & be lawyers/doctors/accountants….but then you realise what your passions are! Love that you’re doing content for ABC too…100k here we go! 😊

Started watching when you were in H.K. during covid. Thought you were a resident, but then you moved back to Australia. Your videos have been fun and I still follow so good sign you make good videos. You will get 100,000 by the end of the year. Thanks for the fun.

Great insightful video Janice! Really enjoyed the time in Australia and thank you for all the great tips. The buffet(s) were awesome. Congratulations on your journey! I'm still struggling with work and getting the videos out.. (it's like a second job on evenings, weekends, and vacation). Congrats once again!

Working onboard passenger ships as a second officer back in Hong Kong for 7 years, land in Australia 3 years ago for a change. Working as a chippie right now and going to start a Bachelor degree in July. Career change just required a lot a lot a lot of courage and determination, proud of you 👍.

I went through a career change. My mom wanted me to be a doctor (like most Asian Tiger moms). I felt nauseated smelling the formaldehyde in anatomy dissection and got grossed out every time I saw blood in the hospital rounds. After 2 years of medical school, enough was enough. I dropped out of medical school and switched to aerospace engineering and did my bachelors degree again. Now I'm doing a PhD in aerospace engineering at the University of Tokyo. I love my mom, but I knew that I am the one who is living my life. I have to do a career that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. I know doctors get paid more, but I have been interested in space exploration and looked at the planets with my telescope since I was a kid. I always tell people who are deciding about whether to stick with their current career or take a chance with a career they love to always do what they love and the money will follow. Life is too short to live someone else's life.

I used to get my coffee from Knights Coffee and Tea when I worked in the city, I worked just up the escalators on George St. They serve very good coffee and they are really good with names, they always remembered my name which was amazing as they serve a lot of people every day, no doubt they would remember your name too 🙂

Went from being a financial accountant to software developer during the pandemic. It was not that big of a change because I work on accounting systems now so I still benefit from my previous experience. However the energy I bring to the job now is completely different because I work on more interesting and different problems every day.
@JaniceFung8 ай бұрын
That’s awesome, congrats! Did you have to do further studies as well to make that switch?

So since you asked at the end - between 18 and 80 - I didn't make a career change, but I kept my job WFH in Australia, and left Australia and moved to South East Asia because I wanted to challenge myself to live in a completely unknown environment, and keeping my AU job/salary means my lifestyle has alot more options. The language barrier is still a hurdle, but, after the 2 years we all lost, I decided to go for it :)

Hey Janice, were you at Gold Coast several weeks ago? If so, my biggest regret was not saying "Hi" to you. I have been livid with myself ever since. As for a career change, does retirement in my 40s count? Retirement meant I have become a volunteer online teacher, mechanic, coach, fitness instructor, chauffeur, travel consultant, tour guide, and so forth, basically multiple hats at any given time. I am taking a big jump just writing this comment, but for you making that transition, one word, brave. I admire what you have achieved. Always love your content.

I would not have guessed you're a graduate of applied finance and law at uni. I kinda half expected you to have like a full time job doing something totally unrelated to the YT vlogs - hence your odd schedule of uploads. It's great having a variety of videos eg. you go to places around Sydney, Tasmanian holidays vlogs with your family, etc. but I suppose if this is your business find out what is most profitable and concentrate of that. I for one will keep watching...
