Omg, I so agree with your comments at the end. I believe your observations are true of most or all corporate level positions. I work with the publishing industry and have an MLS background. The same elitism exists among top level publishers. I think you are lucky to work at the level you do as an archivist, enjoying your profession without the constant fear of being pushed out by ambitious and unscrupulous co-workers. I do lots of freelance work with a particular group of publishers, and I am happy to work remotely for the same reason. Happy Vlogmas! I've got to get The Cloisters!

thank you for sharing your experience and your solidarity! I feel more at ease hearing your perspective lol. Yes, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to have a very peaceful work environment compared to larger workplaces/companies. I am happy to stay small and slow in my own lane!

I love Vlogmas! 🎄❤️ Always looking forward to your videos. Thanks for recommending The Cloisters (I admit I skipped some of the video in case you mentioned spoilers). It's now on my reading list!!

yay! so happy you're enjoying it :) I should have mentioned there weren't any spoilers...I'll try to do that in future videos. I generally always try to not include spoilers or will have a disclaimer before I do :) it was so so good!!

Another book with lots of Tarot and Tarot symbolism is The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware, which I think was incorporated really well into the story. Also, I'm currently reading a horror/mystery with an archivist main character (although it's mostly a haunted house story) called The Haunting of Leigh Harker by Darcy Coates.

I read that book earlier this year I think and didn’t really like it (lol!) and I completely forgot there’s tarot in it! The archivist book sounds interesting, I’ll look into it!

Totally agree with your thoughts at the end, I see it everywhere, that’s why I can’t stand the corporate world and would rather work for small places instead. Currently i’m in a big university library and for that and many other reasons, I want to get out as soon as possible… boy do I miss the internship at the archives.
@SheilaJoy2 жыл бұрын
I miss the internship days too!! so many less things to worry about...I've never worked in a corporate environment as a professional, and I always thought that was odd (lol) but now I see how lucky I am to have avoided it!

@@SheilaJoy Are you swamped with work at your job? Because when I was at the archives here, I saw my colleagues who have been there their whole lifes and their tasks were very chill. Maybe because it’s a smaller place (literally, they kept the space as it was back in the day and it’s beautiful, but absolutely tiny)
@SheilaJoy2 жыл бұрын
there are ALWAYS things to do so you could say I am swamped lol but that forces me to prioritize things which has been a good skill I've learned. I heard of a woman who worked at a library in our capital whose life's work was to organize all their oversized maps. that was literally the only thing she worked on for years until she retired!

@@SheilaJoy That sounds quite tedious 😅 I enjoy stability but it’s nice to have some different tasks to do, or you’ll bore yourself to death. What I did in my internship was a lot of paper clip removing and folder organizing. There were 4 other colleagues: one scanned the old books, the other did data entry and looked for information when people called about it, the third checked the scannings and attended to investigators who came once in a while, and the fourth did organizing too. What you do seems a lot more dynamic, I have to say!
