It's crazy how things happen. I said I wanted to get in into IT but had no clue how to start. I've heard about Epic but the company I used to work for didnt use it. The company i worked for just asked me to come back (wfh role) AND they are switching to EPIC...then i see in your welcome message that you were working as a front desk scheduler (so was I when i started there!!)...If this isn't meant to be idk what is. LOL. I am going to put in my time - a year - and then start looking to get certified. Thanks so much for this video. I would definitely appreciate some tips - like how to go about seeking sponsorship from my employer.
@virtualizehealth

Starting out as a front end user really does give you an edge-it’s like having insider knowledge on how the system needs to work. Your plan to spend a year getting familiar with Epic sounds smart, and by then you’ll have a solid foundation. When it’s time to ask about sponsorship, try framing it as a way for you to bring even more value to the team by enhancing your Epic skills. Show them how getting certified could help you support smoother workflows and solve issues more efficiently. So glad you found the video helpful, and feel free to reach out anytime with questions. You’ve got this!

It's funny how the universe works. I just started working w/Hopkins and I want to become an EPIC analyst. I started researching and your video was one of the top ones. Any suggestions on how to get EPIC certified or transition into tech through Hopkins? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hey there! That’s awesome! Welcome to Hopkins. I would focus on finding workflow issues that you think could be improved with Epic. Run it with your manager and have them submit an intake ticket with their approval. This could give you exposure to the Epic world and get your name out there. Good luck!

if you don't have a degree, I recommend getting a 2 or 4 year degree to give you that edge in your resume. otherwise it's kind of hard to move up the ladder

Does this scope of field in Health Informatics require having any clinical hands on experience?
@virtualizehealth

Hey there! It doesn’t, I was able to get into a masters program with a clerical position at a healthcare organization. There is no requirement to work as a clinician if you are looking for roles such as healthcare analytics or Epic roles.

hi! i hope this isnt weird to ask- are you able to get a wfh job right away or do you need to work in person first? also how did you get your experience to get the job:) i also thought maybe epic analyst would be more technical as i thought it was IT related :)
@virtualizehealth
@virtualizehealth Жыл бұрын
Hi Kasey, Not weird at all. I don’t think so, some companies where doing that during the peak of the pandemic but not anymore. You will probably need to work in the office first to get certified. I didn’t have any analyst experience beforehand but I was an Epic trainer. It is pretty technical regarding system analysis.

Hey I know this pretty late but I am abut to graduate as a HIT major and Im looking to work on the vendor side im not looking exactly to be a data analyst but more so understand the architecture of the ehr system, would being an ehr implementationist be a good route?
@virtualizehealth
@virtualizehealth 11 күн бұрын
Hey, not late at all! Yes, becoming an EHR implementation specialist could be a great move for what you’re looking to do. Implementation roles give you a solid understanding of EHR architecture, workflows, and how different systems integrate with each other. Plus, it’s a hands-on way to learn the structure of an EHR without needing to dive too deep into data analytics. It’s definitely a good foundation if you’re aiming to work on the vendor side. Best of luck as you graduate!

I’m currently a nurse and am looking to transition into becoming an Epic App. Analyst! I am curious if I need to become certified as some jobs I am seeing say it’s preferred but not required. I’m currently trying to change my resume to ensure it’s more appropriate for this role
@virtualizehealth
@virtualizehealth Жыл бұрын
Hi Sylvia, That’s great!. Every Epic analyst does need to be certified before they can start working but you don’t need to be certified to get hired. The roles that don’t require a certification are the entry level Epic analyst roles. You can distinguish them by checking if the job description has this statement (Epic certification is required within 6 months from employment.) or anything similar to that. I Hope this helps! If you need some help with your resume you can message me on my LinkedIn @linkedin.com/in/gct19.

I’m being told that I need to take the sphinx test before proceeding to the next round of interviews. I have taken this test before some yrs ago but I don’t remember anything. Is a failure an automatic disqualification, also how can I prepare for this test?

Hey there! I would recommend you getting a job for a hospital department that you are interested in getting an Epic certification for. For example, I worked at a radiology department for a few years and got my first certification for the Epic Radiant (Radiology) certification. If you have a passion for helping out the emergency department then I recommend you getting a job working in the trenches of the ER or an administrative one overseeing the ER. Within a few years of using the Epic software you can start applying for entry-level Epic analyst jobs with the job title of Epic ASAP, ClinDoc or Orders. Hope this helps!

hey! I have a couple questions as a person about to start my first job as an epic applications analyst. How long does it take you to complete each ticket on average. Also, not including the time spent waiting for feedback ,how much time do you put into resolving each ticket. and how many tickets would you say you receive each day on average?
@virtualizehealth
@virtualizehealth Жыл бұрын
Hi habiba, Congratulations! It honestly depends on the organization and complexity of the request but I can give you some of my takeaways with that. A very simple ticket should not take you more than an 1 hour. An easy task can take from 1 - 5 hours. A medium task could take you from 1 - 5 days. A large task could take you up to 2 weeks. A very large task could take from 2 weeks to a month. These are all for enhancement requests, meaning that they are builds that will improve the use of Epic. A project, on the other hand could be many multi-month thing that could take up to a year. If you are also working with break/fix issues, than those should usually take precedence over the enhancement tickets and projects. There usually is a timer on those where you have to contact the end user within 2 hours and solve the issue within 2 days. Hopefully this helps! If tell me which application you are working with then I could give you examples of those very easy, easy, medium, large tasks.

Hi Shamenrah, The best tip when looking for your first Epic analyst job is to look for keywords like “Required to complete and pass certification in assigned EPIC application module(s) within 120 days of employment in this role”. These are the epic roles that are willing to certify you if you don’t already have a certification. Hope this helps!

Hi Lisa! You came to right place for tips on how to become an Epic analyst. Your degree will definitely help you out at grasping the job roles in no time. I actually just posted a video regarding that. I failed my Sphinx test when I took it 😱. The only tip I can give you is to not overthink the questions, the questions are supposed to get harder as you keep going. The main area that you want to focus on is being able to understand how you can create your own "code" from scratch. Just understanding how variables work in a program like python would help. I'm sure that you will do great, good luck!
