Actually it's an LED driver. LED lamps come in different types, they can work off of the existing ballast, be direct wired with a hot and neutral side to the lamp, or they have an LED driver specific to the lamp. They typically look like an average ballast.

I’m considering becoming a electrician after working on cars etc for 15yrs. Glad to see how simple the day was because I’ve been overwhelmed learning and figuring out these bmw Kafas camera systems etc year after year. At least this stuff stays the same over periods of time whereas mechanics have to learn everyday and there’s no one to figure out the problem for you. I’m doing it and thanks for the video it’s inspiring me to move forwards with this last career choice of my life. Waste of 15yrs is a harsh reality.

Sounds like what i learnt from teacher while i haven't graduated as a electrician, but teacher was one and we did few tasks with placing lamps & stuff. It looks messy having too long wires, but isn't it more important that the lamp is working in the video. And if they are electricians working, they should have the safety glasses on, because it's more safe for eyes for a reason.

Anyways the last 6 months I’ve been working as an electrical apprentice and I love the heck out of it! Something new everyday to keep my mind busy rather than my last job ( stocking at a grocery store). Now my company is gonna pay for me to go to electrical school ( I’ll still pay for college on the side but it’s affordable part time). I also got some debt from college and I refuse to go deeper in debt. Anyways I love the electrical field. Jump right into the trade and try to find an electrical company to start an apprenticeship.

@@byron1368 It is definitely a great Trade to be in . Especially because in a few years from now there will be a huge demand for electricians, this translates in to higher wages for us. The reason for the upcoming demand is due to the baby boomer electricians are all starting to retire. As far as schooling is concerned, unfortunately there are three sessions of school that you will need to complete before you can write your CFQ Exam . Plus you need to acquire 9000 hours of on the job experience as an electrical apprentice. It goes by pretty fast and the schooling is Not very difficult . It really only consists of 3 Ten week sessions so it not a lot. Although I have heard that they college of Trades is contemplating added an additional 4th session as they do crame in a lot of learning in that period of time. As far as pay is concerned , you do get payed very well . As am apprentice you actually get paid pretty well also. A licensed electrician can make any where in between $70,000.00 to 150,000.00 a year . Put it this way , if you are with the electrical union you usually make anywhere from 35 to 47 dollars an hour. Plus union company often give you allowances for boots and safety equipment plus health benefits. You also tend to receive a far amount of free trading . For example , I have my working at heights cert, my aerial platform cert, ( boomlifts etc.) Advanced First aid , Bucket Training and CVOR TRAIN CERT, ACT & Reg’s cert. , Supervisor cert, and so on.. All that training and certifications were paid for by my employer. So to sum it up, I definitely recommend this as a great career choose . You being as young as you are , If you start now you will do very well . Plus after becoming a licensed electrician, after a few years you can go after your masters license which opens even more doors and access to an even greater revenue stream . Pull permits , start your on company etc. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors , If you ever have any question feel free to reach out to me and I will do the best I can to help get you some answers. Good luck , be safe , stay well.

From my understanding you're suppose to go through an apprenticeship program for like 5 years to become a journeyman. Now I did commercial maintenance and apartment maintenance. I had to do lighting for places like fred's, family dollar, steinmart and forever 21. We dis retrofitting on forever 21 track lighting. We also did some Aaron's. I also did some other work that you'd have an electrician do. Like run a new circuit for new doors at a Fred's.

Dude . Not so bright . You are working LIVE and filming it and wearing a company shirt well doing it. I dont know what region you are in but it is illegal to work on energized circuit ( unless trouble shooting ) in Canada our lighting circuits can be either 120 volts or 347 volts . Both can KILL you . If you dont smarten up you will not make a good electrician. You may even end up dead . Tell your journeyman to shut off the power and lock out the circuit well you work on it. This is coming from an electrician that has seen people be seriously injured from working like this. Work safe not stupid.

I'm 23 and got my journeymans license before I turned 22 last year. Started as a coop student out of highschool, now I'm running jobs for my company. The important thing is that your being a productive member of society. The company I work for, dosen't do many of these monotonous retrofits because of companies like this. Does it take away work ? I don't really think so. Lighting is just one aspect of my job and changing light fixtures or ballasts an even smaller portion. It's safe enough as long as the original electrician did their job properly, the breaker should trip. Should that happen thats a potential service call for us.

In my area a new ballast is only about 10$ less than an entire new housing that comes with new terminals and everything. Stank Butt I am still an apprentice but yes it’s worth it. It’s not as physically demanding and other construction jobs, once you get past your first year anyway. It’s a promising future and a job title you can be proud of when people ask what you do for work. If you can get in do it

I wouldn't be surprised if one or more shorted out in some time. He only twisted them a couple times too. I guarantee you if I went up and gave a little pull on one of the wires, it would come right out. I always give them a little pull to make sure there is no way that wire is coming out.

@@Ninowitdavibez check with your local union halls about training and applications. Just Google "HVAC union hall near me". I'm getting into the electrical profession.

Joshua Hott Cool thanks bro.. I been doing my research and I found a local training.. I was wondering if doing a training and completing the hours Is better than trying to join my local union. It seems like I can start the training program as soon as I get enrolled & with joining my local union it’s a bit tougher and takes more time because there is 1-2 Interviews a year.
