I can’t get over how fresh you look at 7am - I’m starting as a student midwife in September and I tell you now I am going to STRUGGLE with early mornings hahaha. Worth it though!

What qualifications do you need to start midwifery? X

@@xaylamay6370 Hi! In the UK, you can enter the midwifery profession via a degree or an apprenticeship. I don't know anything about midwifery apprenticeships, but I do know about applying to university! When applying to university, you'd be doing a three-year midwifery course, or a three-year nursing degree followed by an additional midwifery 'specialisation' course of sorts. The qualifications you need to get into certain universities varies, but most of them accept three a-levels in relevant subject, or a Level 3 BTEC extended diploma in a relevant subject. (For relevant subjects, think 'health and social care', 'human biology', other sciences, and some even like psychology and sociology as sciences as well). If you already have a-levels or a BTEC but not in a relevant subject area to midwifery, then you can do what's called an Access to HE course, where you earn 60 credits in relevant subjects. This can be done in-person at a local college for example, or via distance learning, which is very popular. Not all universities accept Access courses though. If you're considering studying midwifery, I would highly recommend checking specific universities' entry requirements early, so you can see the direction you should be working towards. I hope this is helpful!

What sort of things do you learn about? Like is it super sciencey ? considering it!!

In terms of the midwifery degree as a whole? You learn so much! There is a lot of science involved in anatomy and physiology but you also learn skills to apply in practice, learn procedures and care for women at different stages of there pregnancy, birth and postnatally! You learn so much and it’s such an interesting career to go into!
