@treasurita
@treasurita 5 жыл бұрын
Katelyn Osborn depends on where you work. I work on a ward and work “ward hours” which are 12 hour shifts. One week you’re scheduled to work Monday, Tuesday, and the weekend (Fri., Sat., and Sun.), with the two days (Tue. and Thur.) off in between. Then the next week you’ll work the opposite. And it keeps alternating. We also get “holidays” because if we’re scheduled to work on a holiday such as Christmas Day, we’ll get that day back sometime down the line. If you like to have a predictable schedule and days off during the week, then working on a ward is the place for you.

Georgette D I personally have not but as a Corpsman, you can possibly be sent through FMF (Fleet Marine Force) training that qualifies you to deploy with the Marines, possibly to combat zones. But when joining the military period, you should be prepared to go to combat, regardless of your rate, honestly. Not saying that in a bad way, but you know. It’s the military.

When I went to MEPS to sign for my job, they told me Corpsman was unavailable but I was persistent and wouldn’t take any other job. I did not sign my contract until I got the job that I wanted and I was willing to wait until it became available, which it magically became available after I said I would come back and sign it later when it opened up. Remember, they do not want you to leave and they will tell you anything to get you to sign your contract on the spot so be sure not to get finessed into picking any random job. Also do your research so you’ll have options in case one of the jobs you want isn’t available and you don’t want to delay joining. And ask about incentives!!

@treasurita
@treasurita 5 жыл бұрын
Kasey Wainwright well if you’re sure you want to join right after high school (which I personally don’t recommend) you have to first enlist in the navy as a Corpsman, and if you don’t want a specialty, then you’ll be quad zero. As a quad zero, you could go anywhere. Now, once you get to A-school, you have to make sure you communicate with your instructors on where you want to go, which has to be a hospital. And again, it’s all about communicating. Always communicate your goals and where you want to work. I say that because once you sign on that dotted line, you are at the needs of the navy, meaning they can and will send you anywhere. So always go in with A PLAN! And don’t let anyone tell you differently.

@livimane5564

Kasey Wainwright Don’t try to enlist as an officer. You’re going up against people who are already enlisted and people who have a higher GPA, better recommendations, and shit like that. It’s a lot more that goes into it than coming off the fleet into an officer position than the other way around.

Can you elaborate more on a corpsman? What I mean is are similar to a CNA, MA, Nurse, or Lab Tech. Are their multiple types of corpsman?
@treasurita
@treasurita 5 жыл бұрын
Hayden Payne sure! In this world, you’re either a civilian or military. Meaning, jobs in the military usually translate to something in the civilian world. Corpsman pretty much translates to Medical assistant. The only difference is Corpsman are in the military and don’t earn any certifications for a-school training, and there are SO MANY different types of corpsmen. Here’s a really good link that explains what corpsmen do and all the current navy hm NEC’s: www.thebalancecareers.com/navy-enlisted-classifications-for-hospital-corpsman-3355027 And I think a CNA and medical assistant are the same thing? And Corpsmen are not nurses although we do normally work alongside nurses and doctors. And yes, a Corpsman can be a lab tech! After A-school, you can go to c-school to become a lab tech which actually has a lot of educational benefits. Hope I answered your question!

I’m planning on pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science and I’m still deciding whether or not I will enlist after I get my bachelors. I will have at least 60 college credits by the time I graduate High School so I should be able to get my Bachelor’s within 2 years.
