Hi! I’m Carrieblogger, a full-time career freelancer on Fiverr Pro. Since I started in 2013, I’ve built up a sustainable, consistent business with a six-figure annual ‘salary’. I work as a copywriter and branding consultant for small to medium-sized brands around the world.
Am I a stay at home mom or a work from home marketing copywriter? Freelancing puts me in total control of my schedule, but it has been really difficult to create a productive schedule that works for me and my growing family. Having an infant has totally changed my workflow and expectations about how much money I can earn online as a freelancer. That seems dumb to say out loud, but it has been a tricky transition to get right... especially in terms of mindset and financial planning goals. How much I earn is secondary to how many beautiful moments I can enjoy throughout the day with my son. Still, I'm so lucky to score rewarding freelance jobs from home and freelance copywriting retainer clients that allow me to be the breadwinner in our family and play a supportive role as 'housewife' during the day. I used to love keeping houseplants, but then I got so busy with the baby and let them all die… my mom had to come rescue them for a while haha. But I’m planning to have a big plant wall in my office, so I can keep them close!

I really appreciate the slowed down tempo of this entire vlog. Especially while talking about freelancing b/c so often it's a discussion of "go go go!" and "hustle, hustle!" Also I LOVE the wood ceiling and exposed beams in your new house! LOVELY! Cheers and kudos to you for focusing and reconnecting with nature and finding a new balance. Hi Carrie! You’ve quickly become my virtual Fiverr big sister, and I look to your videos so often for what to expect from a life of freelancing. I took the jump about a year ago and got Pro about four months ago. You served as the push I needed to apply! ☺️ Thank you! I would love to hear (or read) your thoughts on freelancing and the potential for life disasters. Like you, I don’t plan on having a team to write for me. I love it being all just me. However, I panic thinking about what would happen if something happened that took me out for a few days (car accident or severe illness). Any thoughts on what game plan I should put into place? As you know, something like that could destroy a Fiverr account. Or, do you think a success manager would be able to help with something like that if something like that ever were to happen? I’m a prepare-for-the-worst kind of person, and this has been weighing on me.

I think I have an old video kind of talking about that - let me fish it out... (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gITLYn1joM-ji5o -- kind of related, obviously old)) but in a nutshell, I just strongly recommend investing in your safety net -- literal ones like benefits, retirement, rainy day fund -- but also not-so-literal ones like good professional relationships and contacts, shareable content, transferrable skills, resume fillers, portfolio samples, etc. should the need arise to suddenly change gears and adjust my career path for the worst-case scenario.

Hey Carrie, Ive been on fiverr for 5 days as a seller (years as a buyer but never sold before), and had 5 messages all which were total spam lol. Only made 2 gigs though. I'm going to leave them on until I get a proper customer but seems it will take weeks or months to get going properly with the amount of competition!

My advice is usually to give things two weeks, then make changes. If it’s not working, fix it. Otherwise, just sitting and hoping that something will spark in a few months will leave you in a loop of sitting and hoping. 🙃

@@carrieblogger haha another option im thinking is to make the first few gigs for 5 dollars, and basically do them for nothing to get customers rather than using friends and family yet. Currently they have higher prices but not expensive but I suppose getting customers is more important than the price when just starting

You should have portfolio samples prepared to send over so that they can make an informed decision.
