I do exactly this, and its awful but would be a lot easier if there were less ppl at my job. There’s way too many ppl selecting at once, creates traffic and tension for unnecessary reasons. I have to spend 10 minutes looking for pallets because there isn’t enough for everyone. we have like 50 e jacks but only like 20 of them are actually decent and the rest malfunction.

Mrjoecreeper, Any aerobic exercises to keep the fast pace going and lower back strengthening exercises. I don't recommend you do this for a long time unless you really have to cause no matter how healthy or in shape you think you are all that bending to pick things up will wear your discs out.

Very, very hard job. At first I did well. Took me 8 weeks to learn the job and make 100+ productivity. Everyone praised how fast I was learning. Unfortunately I left shortly after due to my body breaking down, and I’m a fit 24 year old. My feet felt like they were fracturing; fingers developed severe joint pain; had no energy on my days off. It’s no joke.

I just finished my first week as a selector. This video was a better overview then what I received at work. Since I'm still new, I've been doing nothing but returns, pulling damaged cases and cleaning. But I'm still waiting to learn how to order select.

I work for martin brower and yes the job is very hard. I lift like 60,000 pounds a day but picking is different from other jobs. I make almost 70,000 a year with this job and this is without any debt except my car, which is only like 6000 left. This is a job you can start a life with and then after start doing what you love after you save. This isnt fast food or retail. Oh yea i just turned 23 this year. If you need money, work hard. If not, dont.

Highly doubt you make over $60,000 a year **unless you became a supervisor or manager**... Most companies will cap you out. Starting pay at the Dollar General distribution center I work at is $19.05 an hr- which is great, but they cap you out at only $23 an hour.

Yeah some picking jobs are fucking ass. Like rustoleum paint…they made you work 13 days in a row sometimes and never let you have time off. You could be super sick and they would be PISSED if you had off. Also if you had a family emergency they would say no most of the time. And they posted a list of top performers. If you ended top6 or lower you’d be considered a shit worker for the day. And sometimes you could help what you got for orders. BUT there are some places I liked picking at it was called apl logistics…they were super cool and as long as you showed up and worked a good rate you could talk to people you could even snack and have drinks on the floor as long as you picked up after urself and it payed more. Managers were way better to and you had 3 days off 4 days on! So much better.

Yes it’s tough, physically and mentally draining, but it has been one of the most prideful and satisfying thing I have ever done in my life. People will respect you and also make a name for yourself. I know US FOODS has a lot of turnover. I just interviewed for a driver position there. After watching this video I think they could improve things in the work environment by copying Amazon. My wife who just went to work there at a DC said they have massage chairs they can use when needed. Also if they need anything from gloves to back support belts to elbow or knee braces there are vending machines that have them where they just enter their employee ID to get what they need. She loves her job there. She said she has met complainers who try to do as little as possible, but for her she wants to keep busy like this selector job.

Did it for 11 months. Never again Never was really properly trained to stack properly. Faulty equipment(scanner, sae, sometimes even the EJ) Conjested aisles, felt like I could’ve gotten ran over every other day cause ppl are running for that 100+% incentive Time not given back if delayed. NEVER ran a 100% only at best 80-85% my 11 months there which was demoralizing. Normally worked in the cooler but when transfered to the freezer they didn’t have insulated boots or freezer wear besides pants so I had to find some someone left out in the locker room Don’t recommend this job at all then again it could be different experience at other warehouses.

I don't order select and never have but I work in general production for a meat company. They bust the guys asses everyday including mine and we have to be real quick to keep meat on the tables (where woman get and place in plates on a machine). The work doesn't stop sp we are rotated to go to breaks and lunch and a few times during the day we are left doing two peoples jobs alone and its a hassle. I end up with my feet, ankles, knees and sometimes my back real tired when I get home. I get paid minimum wage ($16.04 in los angeles), do I exaggerate or is this not a bad job?

I've work in a warehouse with super high production rates. And now I work in one with no production rates. They pace is faster. And we work better and feel less stress. And it Really is a family environment unlike production. Plus the turnover rate is lower WAY lower.

Worst job I've ever had. Back breaking and your definitely just another employee. Super bad on your lower back and you cant enjoy any day off. Your usually off Friday and Saturday, however Friday I would get off at 6-6:30am, sleep till 2 or 3 pm and my day was over. Saturday all day off and Sunday prepare to go to work in the afternoon. I hated Gordon food services. They are always hiring and pay decent because they can't keep people. People be smart be kind to your knees and back and if you can go to school and get a education. And for those that make a living doing this God bless you and stay safe and try to move up maybe into the office where you make the same benifits and go home at 5pm and enjoy Saturday and Sunday with the family

I'm in my upper 50s and started order picking for Tractor Supply Distribution Center just in the last week. They crammed a helluva lot into our brains in the first 5 days. I was only trained for 2 days before they put me out on my own. This kind of job is not for the lazy or people who don't like physical & long hours of work. They have to keep training new workers every week because MOST quit pretty soon after starting.

Ye I had just started order selecting at safeway, my 2nd day on my own they pulled me into the office and were telling me how slow I was and how they don’t think this is the job for me. Like I get they have to meet productivity but I didn’t even get 2 full days of training nor do I have prior experience, how do they expect me to start off at 55 percent. I ultimately decided the pay wasn’t worth it and told them I quit.

@@Mal0717 there are many jobs like this, look around. I'm at Tractor Supply DC. They are pretty strict with %. You have to average at least 80%. But, for the most part they are fair as long as you show up every day and work hard. I'm lucky to have a pretty cool supervisor. He even gave me a better job and trained me on an RC forklift after a month in.

I want to apply for this job but only as a part time gig after my 9am to 5pm. And like from Monday - Wednesday. (They have those 3 day options in my area) I miss actual work and moving my body, I just sit on my ass and push emails and it really sucks. I like the money I make, but I want more money and to move my body again. When I used to work at Amazon they would always make me do all of the most exhausting work because I bust my butt for them at $15.50... 🤡 I feel like I could be competitive here, not the top dog or anything. But I feel like I could get the job done well, get paid a decent amount and lose weight. They start shifts at 5pm which I can coordinate, but I don't want them pulling me for Mandatory OT or anything like that. Decisions decisions.

While others got to use the EPJ I then did overnight freight at a home depot for over a year, then quit. Now I don't know what to do. I like the overnight freight at home depot, but they would sometimes schedule me 9 days in a row. My body can't do that lol

I was at Martin Brower but they let me go because I had too much trouble hitting production, plus the stupid headset was always acting up. Those big boxes of plastic cups were so heavy, it's a brutally physical job. And they expect you to keep that same pace for up for 7-9 hours a day? Also, only two 20 minute breaks and NO LUNCH? 😂 No worries, soon I'm going to get forklift certified so I can just operate the lift all day. @@hakeemsd70m oh my god so much has changed since my comment. i got a wfh programming job at an isp. i went to work at an amazon delivery station for about 6 months. then started applying to jobs on indeed and starting interviewing for a few months. finally landed something. yeah those jobs are insane. the physical labor is intensive. blue collars jobs are no joke man, i kinda miss them. they kept me active. although working at the delivery station was way easier than the costco order picking stuff lol

I picked for Ford for 3 years, physically demanding yes, but once you learn the job it almost becomes second nature. I had to relocate and ended up at McLane. Which is wayy worse than ford. Plus they stick you in the freezer. So it really comes down to which company you select for. These warehouses are different.

Make up to 1k? You can make than 1k easy. Shifts are usually 12-14 hours and constant lifting. If you hate sweat and working hard, this job isnt for you

They are good paying jobs, however it all depends on who you are working for but all of them are labor intensive. So if you have health issues that may prevent you from lifting very heavy boxes etc., don't apply. They are all fast pace, and anywhere from 10 to 12 plus hours. Mandatory over time. Can't leave until the work is done. No thanks..
