I live in Bacolod too... Just my personal opinion - Developers usually in Bacolod/Philippines are egoistical and "almost" everyone wants to look smart and at the end of the day, everyone doesn't learn that fast enough. Yeah you can look and sound smart but in the real world(outside of the Philippines), you really have a lot of catching up to do. I've worked in software for 8 years. I started in Game development/C++ in Manila and that's what I noticed about my Filipino co-workers. Everybody wants to look smart, blames their country for earning small.. But they know the truth deep inside. If you're really good, there are lots of opportunities for remote work if you're good. I was not really good back then(I don't think I am really good now but I know how I compare to most devs here), but I wanted to be legit and usually the culture won't work for me to achieve my goal. I decided to come back to Bacolod and get into Web Development since it's easier and there are more opportunities for online work in the future. Again, I worked with Filipino Senior developers and the way they think is just different. It's as if they are really good. I've worked with the really good ones and I tell you, the guys I worked with here won't stand a chance. Almost everybody is opinionated, talk like everything is easy. They just Google stuff without really understanding the solutions found, knows a lot of theory, come up with cool solutions from some source, but their fundamentals are poor that if something went wrong, they get frustrated and spend more time complaining if they have to modify the code they had just copied. After some time they still get stuck. I've worked with really smart people, and usually, the smartest ones are those who don't really sound too smart to ordinary people, and those who are "hey, look I'm smart" programmers are just so-so. That's when I decided to be self-taught and work hard, master the fundamentals, and not mind just sounding/looking really good. I worked with companies from other countries, started with minimal knowledge in web development, sacrificing a little of my short-term reputation to invest time in mastering the fundamentals, and just kept on growing. The more great programmers I get to work with, the more I realize the big difference with the programmers here. It's the culture here. Too much movies maybe- Everybody just wants to look cool and not just look dumb today - and that's it. People don't want to look dumb because everyone just likes to criticize and be opinionated when in fact they just know a lot of theory. My experiences taught me that you can really earn a lot if you put in the effort to learn the hard things, make mistakes, not be afraid to look dumb with how you do things(or when you ask simple questions). I'm in a family of chess players and chess players and programmers here act the same... it's annoying and has become the norm. My cousin is a grandmaster, world champion and he's the most humble chess player I have ever met. Sorry for the long comment. This is just one of my frustrations here and one of my goals in the next couple of years is to build a bigger team and to have a culture where getting better as a team is always more important than just looking smart, and not look like an imposter.

. Just sharing my thoughts before I get to sleep. Okay, last nato, d na ako mag cocomment forever dito. I don't usually comment pero nakita ko lng kasi taga Bacolod din so naisip ko lng ulit ang palagi kong napapansin dito sa amin. Keep learning lang. Take time to master the fundamentals and hindi na importante kung ano mang bagong tools/frameworks/libraries pa gagamitin mo, mejo hindi kna mahihirapan pag nag invest ka nang time dyan at makakita ka nang mga mas okay na opportunities. Gaya nang Toptal, pagnakapasa ka(te-test nila talaga knowledge mo sa fundamantals), mkaka sahod ka at least $35-40/hr. D ko pa alam if ok na yan or baka meron pang itataas sana.

salary and what he is actually doing might be confidential. but im a web developer, just quit my web dev job to pursue a flutter developer job in Makati. for a junior web developer, it depends with the experience and how good you do in your interview exams. my advice is that, you always need to code and code and code all the time. read about new stuff, get some design inspirations in dribbble and other sites, and lastly, you need to be able to stay consistent with your code. be persistent in solving something. its hard at first, but if you love your work . . itll be a good adventure for you. p.s ( i was earning 15k per month as a junior laravel developer , ooof :) )

Pwde po ba makahingi ng tip or advice? Gusto ko din po kasing maging web dev, 1st yr student palang ako, pero 2nd yr courselang po yung kinuha ko, pwede na po ba yan sa pag aapply ng company basically sapat na ba kahit 2yrs course lang ang natapos? Depende po yun sa company kasi most of the time hinahanap talaga nila is may college degree at strong background in programming, some companies offer training din and some are looking for independent devs who can self-study (this is preferred in the industry). Ang tip ko lang siguro is, if you are unable to complete your course, try self-studying and investing time in learning online via crash courses on Udemy, KZbin, etc. Yung ibang online courses meron nga binibigay na certificates so plus points talaga yan sa portfolio mo. Tapos create simple projects to be presented sa employer mo during interview para mas mabilis nila ma grasp yung technical skills mo, makikita nila agad output mo hehe. Sa abroad, daming tao na hindi computer-related graduate na nag try mag take-up ng programming courses online tapos ngayon sobrang successful at Software Engineers na sa mga malalaking companies. Yan lang siguro hehe indi pa ako ganun ka experienced to give advices in this field :)

Shadow Gamer totally depends on your experience and the company. Could be 15k to 60k even more if you’re lucky in Bacolod area lol. The interview was pretty basic and technically about HTML5, CSS (specifically flexbox), and little to none JS as I applied for a frontend role involving e-commerce projects.
