Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel. In this video, I walk you through part of my work day. Of course, this was not all I did but I wanted to share with you a little bit of what I did at my job. My job role consisted of much more than this but this is a sneak peak into a day in the life of a Utilization Review Nurse working from home. Now that I have left this job, I look forward to the future and the endless opportunities that are available out there for us, nurses. Trust me you will find a job you do like you just have to put yourself out there.

Hello, I did stumble on your videos when I was looking for a nurse reviewer role last year when I got hired. I love what I do but I wish thr hours were a bit better. I am trying to look for utilization role that works 4 10-hr shift. How did you find yours? 😊

I just transferred within my facility. Found out through word of mouth that it was a 4 10hr shift

Can you share what was the most challenging part about this job and how do you stay organized?

Most challenging part was that the dept and policies would change frequently. In regards to organization, we used a lot of excel spreadsheets to try and stay up to date and organized.

Do you normally finish work day on time? How many cases are you required per day?

At that time, we didn’t have a requirement but I no longer work. I also would stay past my shift to do comp time.

@@LifeAsWendyRN is 17 cases/day reasonable in normal hours? When you stayed late, how late was it? Looking at a salary UM.

Hi Wendy, Thanks for this great video. My question is can you do this job when you have a baby? How demanding is it and do they pay for overtime or offer their nurses to pick overtime. Can you carry your laptop and work let's say you have to travel out of the country but don't want to take a Leave of absence. Am sorry I had so many questions. Hi! Yes, just like any job you can still do it when having a baby. Now if you mean can you work and take care of the baby at the same time? No, you cannot. Some companies have metrics and watch you closely such as through your key strokes. And in regards to traveling out of the country, there are jobs that allow that but are very rare. You’d probably have to work for an international company. Mostly companies want you to only be at a certain state. Really depends on the company.

Some companies will monitor your key strokes soo you’d have to be careful with that. You do need to be available like any other in person job

when was the last time you worked in your resume? I advise you try to tailor each resume to the position you are applying to

Hi, have you tried applying for Utilization Review or appeals nursing positions? Look up major insurance companies and look at the common job descriptions and tailor your resume to fit those positions. Include transferable skills. I’m a UM nurse and I got a WFH job with no previous UM experience. Good luck!

@@hellokitty2848 I must admit, it can be a lot of work. Always busy. It’s a lot to learn regarding regulations, health insurance jargon (everyone talks in code) and compliance but for me it’s intriguing because I’m heavily into analytics. The work isn’t hard; just medical necessity review mainly, but a lot of moving parts. I like that I’m never watching the clock. Before I know it my day is over.

About 6 years of bedside as a RN. And no I had no special certification.

D Za hi, I was doing UR at a hospital. My questions were all performance based instead of related to the job itself. For example, they’d ask me, give us 2 examples of times you had to think outside the box, think Of a situation where you made a mistake, what did you learn and did you report it, etc.
