My son just put on his anchors as a CTIC. He has been in 12 years. Yes, many (but not all) CTIs are nerds. But if you play your cards right, you can have an exciting career. After his first enlistment, he earned his Naval Aircrew Wings and flew on the EP3 out of Bahrain. He has visited some pretty cool places, too. The biggest thing is that CTI and CTN make big bucks when they retire. Like $250k+. Any 3 letter agency will hire them and contractors beg them to come work for them.

Take it from someone who was forced to go undes. You do NOT want to be undesignated, especially in deck dept. You have especially zero choice in your future and the only way out is either re-enlisting into the rate you want or just plan quitting. And dont quit because having a dishonerable discharge is a carreer killer. whatever you do, RESEARCH YOUR RATES BEFORE YOU GO TO MEPS!!! See what jobs you want to do and learn everything you can about it, then do it five more times with different rates because you will amost certainly not get your first pick of a job at meps. Then, get there and tell the desigator what you want to do and dont let them try to change your mind. Stick to your wish list and if you dont have an option tbat you want, back out of there. No other path is worth the pain
@donnywhite13595 ай бұрын
I'd say the only exception to this is if you want to go in as a BM, I would recommend PACT SN over BM. BM is NOT for everybody, and going pact will allow you to see what BM life is like first, then give you an opportunity to stick to it or switch if it's not for you

I went to the NAVY , pre-qualified for AE. A school. I chose Undes. Airman Aviation. when i got the Squadron, I picked for Sea Duty i went for AMH< at the time over manned closed for designation., took me 2 test make Striker, score high enough make rate, but still closed for advancement for next 3 years. Did not make Rank until 5 weeks till discharge, yep i was going get out. So made rank, rest was history, poof 20 years went by like blink of eye/ Every rate has its windows of opportunity.

i joined the navy in 1985 under the apprenticship fireman program and ended up as a machinist mate in the engine room i was told the usual that you can move around and try different job's and then pick one that fit's you.in truth it usually took about 2 years to strike for a job. you could think about job choices but it has to be on your time after working hours.all e-1 thru e-3 clean,chip paint and everybody work's long hour's that's just the nature of the navy.if you were lucky enough to strike for a job back then they asked that you extend your contact.on the plus side if you went in designated you may would have been in a job you really did'nt like.picking a job in the military should be done with alot of investigation it's 4yrs.of your life why be miserable. from my experince.you had to mind your p's and q's as well and stay out of trouble.our senior enlisted would try to find a reason to write you up for c.o's mast's making you look like a bad service member.
@ShaeTaylorLife Жыл бұрын
You’re going to be fine dude. But if I were you, I would honestly go back into your recruiters and demand that you pick a rate it’s not too late. Your recruiter might be pissed off because it’s extra paperwork but seriously go and knowing what job you’re going to be doing!

First and foremost. Thank you for your service. My son is currently in bootcamp. He's on 8th week of bc. My son did the apprenticeship contract as well. Which was suggested by the recruiter. So after bc graduation is it more than likely my son will be on a ship? Will he more then likely be overseas? After graduation & we get to spend a little bit of liberty with him. Can he have his Xbox out there or his small portable speaker or laptop out there? I'd like to know if I should take him a few of his thing's. If he is on a boat how does he get or buy personal items? Will I be able to mail out care packages? Also can personal items be stolen? Is it best not take any of the above? Also will he be able to have more communication during A school? My son is not a tall guy at all, & I'm worried his height may hinder him. I know he's out there with the bigger sharks, & I hate to hear his height is a problem. I don't know if I maybe just over thinking things. I just want him to excel and love what he does.
@ShaeTaylorLife2 жыл бұрын
Congratulations to your son! It’s not a bad thing that he chose that rate. He will more than likely be on the ship. I would bring some of his electronics to graduation and just see if he wants to take them with him, but remember that he is traveling very light with just a sea bag. He will be able to have his phone after graduation and life can kind of go back to normal as far as communicating with him! What a good father you are for doing a research and looking out for him. Things are different in the military. It doesn’t matter your height, what matters is your attitude, and willingness to learn and get the job done. It’s actually probably going to benefit him if he is going on a ship because the racks that people sleep in are made for your average height :)
