Follow me along for a day in the life of an ophthalmology resident. I'm a second year ophthalmology resident, which means I'm a physician (doctor) learning to treat diseases of the eye both medically and surgically.
I'm currently on an oculoplastics rotation. In this video we stay in the OR and then head to clinic for in office procedures followed by clinic patients.
If you're interested in the medical field or ophthalmology, consider subscribing to the channel and leaving a comment if you have a questions that you'd like me to address in a video. If live to hear from you guys!

I was at UT Southwestern for med school - your video made me nostalgic!! Hope you are loving it (even with COVID)! Ophtho is a great field:) I finished residency over a decade ago and still love going to work! Best wishes to you!

Hi there, i am all the way from Recife in Brazil South America, and I really liked your video, very informative and all, thank you for sharing it with us, I am also an ophthalmologist and went through a lot of hard work during residency, not sure if it was as good as yours but your videos are a lot of fun to watch, I see myself in your shoes, I am General ophthalmologist and a cataract surgeon.

Can you make a video on tips for college students who are trying to go into ophthalmology? Such as what classes to take, how to get into ophthalmology quicker, books you recommend...

Get into the best medical school you can, worry about specialities after. Focus on your 10 yard targets before your 100 yard targets.

You could literally get your undergrad in music 😂 Just focus on extra curricular activities and your gpa and of course the MCAT.

lose the music when you talk, it's sometimes difficult to hear you properly.

Tsym for this vid i really wanna become an ophthalmologist but im still deciding. How many hours a day / days of week will you work as an attending?
@doctoreyeballmd7493
@doctoreyeballmd7493 4 жыл бұрын
that can vary greatly and you can structure it how you like from 8 hour days 4.5 days per week to 11 hour days 5 days a week. there's a lot of freedom to make it what you want.

What are your normal working hours like as an Ophthalmology resident? How often do you work on weekends?
@doctoreyeballmd7493
@doctoreyeballmd7493 4 жыл бұрын
It varies by program and year in residency but 1st year we ranged from9-11 hrs most days. On call on a good chunk of weekends as a first year and then second year get all your weekends off at my program (almost all). Then third year take about 3 mo of q3 primary call and are backup on weekends. On average though about 9-11 hours per day. Not too bad :)

I have one of those worms in my eyes and I took a picture of it to show my eye dr and she said it was just a cyst ...but it keeps moving. Nothing done as of yet but I am struggling with cysticercosis and neurocysticercosis. Can you help me???

@@brincessa2101 ...you know I have been to soooo many Drs through my years of life that tell me I’m mentally ill and I’m making this all up! I have cysticercosis which I have had since I was a child but NO Dr believed me until I started seeing a new psychiatrist who finally did believe me and diagnosed me with cysticercosis. I have all the evidence they need...photos, the parasites themselves in a bottle of alcohol...and qtips full of parasites. I had to start saving them to prove my case and still to this day I’m blatantly be told I’m just mentally ill and it’s not really happening to me!!! One Dr told me on my first visit without even knowing me or my medical history walked into the room I was in and immediately said you don’t have what you think you have! You don’t need a medical dr you need a psychiatrist! Then he said why are you on Medicare? I said medical disability and he said your medical disability means you are mentally ill and that’s why you get Medicare!! You are making this all up!! He says he doesn’t understand why people like me think a dr would believe them! Drugs? Attention?? He’s just not sure why! I got up and left immediately!!! The hospital here won’t see me anymore and every dr I try to find is seeing something in my records before I even talk to them. So I just suffer from all the pain I’m in from all the damage this infestation has and continues to have in my whole body . I refuse all pain meds and will not take ibuprofen anymore because I have been taking it so long it’s done more damage than good! All my organs are in pain my bones hurt horribly and my muscles spasms are getting worse and worse...not to mention I can’t wear a bra because the pain in my left shoulder is intensified with any pressure on it! What’s so crazy to me is that ...why do Drs think it’s impossible to have parasites??? Blows my mind!! I have no pcp and can’t go to hospital for help... so I just wait for a miracle...God is good and I know He hears my cries for help!!
