I'm not even done with the video yet, but I feel like a channel always feels the most natural when a creator just does what comes naturally to them and what they are enthusiastic about! So even if you are less plant focused at the moment it feels really chill seeing you settle into a new place. And the plant bbs are always lurking in the background anyway. So just do whatever feels right and people will feel your good intentions.

I’m so glad to hear creators talking about how their care has changed. Last summer my entire apartment was taken over by plants. I moved 6 times since them and lost so many of mine from neglect, the plants going into shock, and a lot of other reasons. Now I’ve nursed them back to health and only have about 1/3 of what I started with. I no longer bottom water and they’re all doing amazing and it’s so much less of a burden for me this way.

Ohhh.. I just love you, with Theo in your backpack and your super protective headgear and crocs! Quite the stylista…and what’s even better is that it’s all natural! You are so humble and purely original. I don’t think you are even aware how charming you are. Not one bit! That is why we all love to watch you and listen to your calming plant ramble 😊 . No wonder your dying plants rally back to life after one leaf has been hanging on a by a thread for a while: you’re the meditation teacher of the plant world!😅

I smile when I watch your vlog. I am so emotionally attached to each of my plants (only 10 total) that I worry over every brown leaf. You have a much calmer approach. I would like to know more about fertilizing plants. I've been scared to try.
@benjiplant Жыл бұрын
If you’re intimidated by fertilizer, I highly recommend a slow release fertilizer like osmocote. It’s very simple to use and you only have to add it once every 6-9 months. It’s difficult to over fertilize your plants and “burn” them with osmocote

One thing I always find helps with plants that have yellowed or brown leaves that I find don't look to good, and this sounds weird, is that I will just cut off the brown bits and then kind of shave the leaf to look normal. It sounds kind of strange to use scissors on the actual leaf, but sometimes the leaves will last for several months while still being green which helps the plant a lot and also looks nice. Edit: Also, that flowering cactus looks like a dragon fruit cactus.

Interesting to see how your habits in plant care have changed since you moved. Here are a few tips from someone who has moved with plants many times over 40 years. 1) water quality matters-the new water source might have fluoride, which is toxic to many plants; there are minerals that weren’t present in the r-o water, & which can accumulate in the margins of the leaves, causing browning; the ph is likely different, which will cause poorer growth. Rainwater is best, although often difficult to harvest in Southern California. I use covered rain barrels to diminish mosquito activity. Otherwise r-o water is always better than tap water. 2) location, location, location! You already move your plants around the house to seek the best environment for them. Just don’t give up. I’ve thrown many plants into the compost pile, only to later find them growing wild without my care. 😳🫣 3) air quality is also important. Moving from a high-traffic area to a less-traveled street, or vice versa, can affect sensitive plants. Indoor chemicals, such as cleaning agents can cause poor air quality indoors, especially when first moving into a space that was thoroughly cleaned for you. Even switching from an electric stove to gas will affect some plants (& aquariums) especially in or near the kitchen. I’ve lived many places and found that some plants do better than others. After a while you will learn which ones do best for you in your new home. Now that you have the space, I encourage you to capture rainwater and start a compost area. It might make all the difference. 😺✌️

Silica is actually really beneficial for plant health, and helps increase the hardiness of plants. Not only does it help increase nutrient uptake, but it also helps with plant resilience, stem thickness, cell abundance and a whole load of other things. Though, it isn't classified as a nutrient. I'm not too sure if that's due to a mis-classification, or if silica isn't a fundamental part of plant growth, but Silica is pretty beneficial (and in a lot of cases, neccessary) for the health of plants.

13:16 I think if you want to try this again it would probably help to transition it slowly, I know that's what people do with food crops that get started indoors and get moved outdoors later. This takes a while though and would probably also be kind of a hassle with such a big plant, because the idea would be moving it outdoors for like 1 hour per day and slowly increase that over the course of a week or two

You should get several water containers with open tops, fill them with tap water and leave them sit for 48 hours open top. I used to use 5 gallon buckets when I had city water. This method allows the chlorine and fluoride and other volatiles to evaporate off. This will make better water for your plants without the expense of distilled water. Cheers. Allen
