It is really nice with cinnamon scented flowers but it grows a lot of bulbils! ! I think you might like Sinningia… they are caudex forming gesneriads ! The mini sinningia can be as small as a quarter, and some of the larger, drier ones can have really large caudex with fuzzy leaves and red flowers…

bugs really love nasturtium, that's why a lot of organic vegetable growers use the plant as attractant. The bugs will stay on the nasturtium instead of spreading to other plants. The same for aphids. There is a potential for having spidermites on your other plants by removing your nasturtium.

Nasturtiums are usually used a trap crops, they concentrate plant pets to itself rather than the “main plants”
@benjiplant2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know this! Very interesting. Is this a common practice for gardeners? Also, do you know other plants that might be considered trap crops? It's impressive how the nasturtium was absolutely infested with spider mites, but the surrounding plants and plants in the pot were untouched.
@leaso5852 жыл бұрын
@@benjiplant yes this is common practice among gardeners, other trap crops are alfalfa, nettles, french marigolds, squash, and sun flowers. They all attract different pests to themselves. They’re used in organic pest control and in non-organic pest control, after they’re heavily infested they’re removed or sprayed with pesticides to hinder the spreading of said pests. I didn’t know about this until I took a course in human geography. Also, Love your videos!

hey benji the green water is really good for rice fish because it contains phyto-plankton which are extremely good for babies and since you cant really feed them anything because their mouths are so small they feed on it thus creating a free food source but do do water changes to reduce algae but leave some green water it also replicates their natural habitat. just trying to give some advice. btw love your vids :)

I had similar issues with my Nasturtium, but mine had black aphids! I did some research and found that Nasturtium is oftentimes used by gardeners as a decoy to lure pests away from more precious plants! Such a shame it’s a pest attractant because the leaves are unique and the flowers are so vibrant!

Chill Sunday watching! You mentioned some of your house plants are on the balcony. I live in Western NY and have an East facing deck, so bright summer morning sun. I put house plants out and they took a shellacking! Burned leaves; guess they are house plants for a reason.
@benjiplant2 жыл бұрын
They might need to slowly acclimate to higher levels of sun exposure. I'd recommend introducing them gradually or getting a shade cloth. Plants create their own "sunscreen" to absorb UVB; however, there's still a limit to how much sun a leaf can tolerate. It takes some time for the plant to develop the "sunscreen" if it was previously grown in household conditions. The houseplants on my balcony don't receive extended periods of direct sun exposure; it's primarily dappled or filtered light.
@cris_tamay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Benji, Nasturtium are like plant protectors because they attract bugs so plants nearby are safe and they are sturdy enough to handle it without dying. Just so you know if you want to try it again =) Nasturtium and Ipomoea are my 2 fave seeds and they are very easy care.
