Thanks for the upload DAA. interestingly George Sewell's reading voice here sounds a lot like Fedrick Forsyth.

The choice of George Sewell is inspired. Mendel in the BBC's adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and his stint in Special Branch puts him firmly in the right place. Then there's all those appearances in The Sweeney and UFO.

Read the book a long time ago and have seen the film several times. Sewell is a great choice for this and agree he does sound a bit like Forsyth. If this is the full book and not abridged then it appears to omit how they got from Calthrop to Duggan. In the film the police compare child deaths at Somerset House with recently issued passport records. All we have in this reading is Lebel taking a call from Scotland Yard and then saying they are looking for Duggan. Will have to re-read the book.

This is the abridged version. The only place I have found the whole book for free is on Internet Archive.

I’m not too keen on remakes of movies just because they’ll put more $$$ in someone’s bank account. But I’ll admit that I have watched some remakes that do improve on the original and enjoyed them. The sequel to the original Bladerunner movie is typical of a movie that shouldn’t have been made, Bladerunner is a movie that could never be followed by a sequel. But this novel, DayOf The Jackal, screams out to be made into a movie again! The original movie of this novel is one of my all time favourites, but the remake that was released left me completely cold and unimpressed. I for one would be among those going to the cinema to see how good yet another movie version of Day Of The Jackal was handled by its producers. I can’t suggest a present day actor whom I would like to see take on the role of the jackal but I can definitely say please don’t cast Tom Cruise as the jackal - because that would guarantee that I wouldn’t be spending any of my hard earned money going to watch it! Thorvald (pronounced Tourval, 25, Norwegian and currently living & working in the U.K..)

The Jackal, 1997, with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere (the really nice type IRA terrorist that Americans seem to believe in). It was terrible. Even worse than the remakes of The Italian Job and Get Carter. Which is saying something because they were two real stinkers. Did you watch STONEHOUSE, 2023? The guy copied the Jackal's method to get himself a second passport, in the name of someone with a similar DOB who had died very young. He then faked his death. And this guy had been an MP and even a Cabinet Minister in the Harold Wilson Labour Government (where he spied for the Czechoslovaks).

Are you watching the news series with Eddie Redmayne? Although its a different plot there many sympathetic nods to the original and I’m enjoying so far 👍🏻
