Looks to be a beautiful rustic and bucolic paradise. A country style island with all of the charm of olden Hawaii. May it always stay that way. Quiet and pastoral.

I saw father Damien’s statue in Washington DC. I was really touched to also see King Kamehameha.

Thx for the info video! Just got back from Maui. Was curious about Molokai. Was hearing some sad stories about it while I was on Maui. Would be cool to visit some day. Definitely not right now though ;-)

So, very interesting videos you two do🌈. Josette and I took a chance and bought a house outside of Hilo. For now, we have whom seem to be wonderful long term renters in it....so far so good...knock on some wood....we use our vacation time from work and stay in the back O Hana of our rental when we visit. When children are done with college in a few years we plan to stay for good. In a few months from now, we will fly to Maui stay a couple days and then to Hilo....to meet renters and work on our property...and back to Pittsburgh....I found day tours using ferry boats from Front St. in Lahaina town(we have booked one of those affordable shared common space condos in town from Airbnb)but I’m under the impression the ferry boats to Molokai and Lanai have been halted. We definitely want to see Molokai some day even if not this year!🌈😃🤙

I would love to go to Molokai and Lanai one day. During Covid I've been really interested in Hawaii. I have road maps of all the islands and I hope to actually use them as road maps. The four main Hawaiian islands are beautiful but a little crowded. So I would love to see what the other two inhabited but less crowded islands are like.

Lovely little Island. Red Sand full of minerals and good for growing things. There used to be wonderful ranches for Horseback riding, do they still exist?

Beautiful! How do you guys afford to travel? I want to go to Hawaii but with the cost and getting time off from work it seems impossible.

We moved to Hawaii in 2010 and live small! Then we were picked up by Mokulele Airlines to help them market their island hops, so that is comped airfare and then we pay for the rest --for now! Would be great to have hotels and restaurants start to sponsor us!. It has been a very long haul to get to this point.

Mercy Ritte You accuse these two of making broad generalizations about Molokai, but you are doing the same, You have already filled in the story of these two without knowing anything about them or what brought them to where they are in life. (It’s not common to see two baby boomers with a travel channel on KZbin, so I’m sure it’s an interesting story). The world is changing rapidly for everyone. For instances I personally know many people in their 50s who have been displaced by the new economy and some are trying to reinvent themselves as Uber drivers, online retailers and wholesalers, and even KZbin bloggers. These guys are not Hilton executives and they are most likely struggling to keep up in this new world. Progress has major downsides, but even larger upsides. Your vision of the past is most likely romanticized. It might have been harmonious in some ways, but there was also disease, daily fight for survival, and death at a young age. The benefits of modern medicine, modern conveniences, and modern civilization come at a price and if Molokai wants to benefit from those things, one way or another it must have something economically valuable to trade with others. Otherwise it is the taxpayers that are being exploited. Now if Molokai chooses to be completely cut off from the resources it cannot afford such as fossil fuels, healthcare, communication technology and instead live completely subsistence lives, that is a choice the residents should make for themselves. But don’t expect to get the stuff without providing something in return. We all must deal honestly with the economic value we must provide in order to enjoy modern conveniences.

@@jeffsanders7978 I'd make that trade, in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, although I'm Indigenous Polynesian, and although I'd be very happy to live traditionally, ALL land is owned now, so I'd have to have a fortune just to buy some, and then also MORE money to pay taxes every year. And yes I'm aware of the irony of saying this on a phone, on a video, on KZbin. But this modern tech is something I can afford. Land on which to live -- on our own, by our own -- costs more money than I'll ever live to see.😕

Is the water at 5:30 really that brown in person? If so is it like this all across the southern shores of Molokai?
@365Hawaii
@365Hawaii 5 жыл бұрын
The light was fading AND don't forget...the sand is NOT white in Molokai, it is more of a brownish and therefore, the water looks like that, too! In Kona, we have white sand, so the water looks electric blue..same water, just different how it reflects off the sky. If you want SUPER pretty blue water..Kona..if you want a few beaches that you can be totally alone? Molokai.

Livaloha- Before I traveled there, I asked about the correct pronunciation of Molokai and they said to put the "ee" sound at the end like Hawai'i,,but I realize now that without the akina, there is no emphasis. I wish I could go back and voice over that part..and the others..always learning.
