The pine trees on all of the Hawaiian islands were brought to the island by Captain James Cook and planted to be used as mast replacements. They're called "Cook Pines". They were planted all over random islands essentially as spare parts for boats traveling.

There is an interesting island with many native pine trees in New Caledonia, called Isle of Pines, and it was English Captain James Cook who left the name for posterity even if he never set foot on it. Isle of Pines is French territory - used as a penal colony around 1870 for political deportees - and looks very interesting with its tall pine trees. It is also home to special geckos you can only find there.

Hello! Glad you got to go to Molokai! I chose this island to visit when I went to Hawaii on my first and only visit, mainly because I didn't want to have a "typical tourist" experience. I rented a VRBO apartment on the East side, had a rental car to explore, and it was an incredible week. The flights and lodging were reasonable, but everything bought on the island was very expensive. I loved the remote feeling I got from exploring there. It's a special place.

Enjoyed your video. Im a country girl who lives in a small town next to wide open spaces of cow pastures, and patches of woods. Generally quiet and layed back. Ive been to Hawaii, but never Molokai. I would much rather visit Molokai. Ive seen videos of its tall cliffs with some of the tallest waterfalls on earth. Took my breath away. Molokai is fiercely protected by its people. They want respect for the cultures and the land, much as the native Americans have. To me,Molokai is a Hawaiian tribal island. I dont blame them for resisting tourism. Visit with respect. Thank you for this video of a quiet rural island. God bless from Oklahoma.

My 6 year old daughter had giggles.. WE also enjoyed a one on one tour at an old mill...Town was a drive through at most as you saw on your walk. A side story...We were on Big Island a year ago..Gallon of milk was $9.99....Clerk said on Molokai it was over $20.00.

@@blueberry4082 There is some division on Molokai versus Moloka'i, the latter having the okina between the a and i at the end of the word. To your point, I am increasingly seeing people write Moloka'i. The last time I was on the island and talked to a lifelong resident, he insisted it's Molokai without the okina. But the Hawai'i Tourism Authority is now using Moloka'i as the spelling. Maybe that's now the norm. But it's always Lana'i (pronounced Lana-ee." If there's no okina it would sound like lan-eye, which is a patio. That is definitely the case. Lana'i is correct. Anyway, have a good one.
