Summer is winding down and our daughter’s summer vacation is ending and we figured we will try to enjoy what’s left of the warmer weather on weekends. This weekend’s plan was to visit Point Pelee National Park which is the most southern point of Canada. Point Pelee is located in Leamington, ON and is about 315 km’s from where we live in Oakville, ON and the drive was a little over three hours one way. You do have to pay entrance fee which can be paid at the entrance unless you already have the Parks Canada annual pass. Once you enter the park you drive along a nicely paved road trees filled road. There are signs along the road asking to slow down due to turtles and snakes crossing (we did not see any while we were there though). After about a 10 minutes drive you will reach the parking lot. The first one we found was packed and then we found out there is another larger lot.
Point Pelee is known for bird watching especially during May. It is usually the first stop for the tired birds as they migrate north across Lake Erie. It is also popular for Monarch butterflies in September as they migrate their way.
In the park there are a few beaches where you are allowed to swim however, once you get closer to the tip swimming is prohibited. This is due to the dangerous currents and there are signs everywhere. There have been deaths due to the current and anyone caught in the water swimming or wadding could also be fined.
During April to October, a shuttle is usually available and will take you close to the new viewing tower where you can get 360 view. From there you can do the short hike to the tip. However, due to covid shuttles were not running and we hiked 2.5kms one way from the visitor center to the tip. There are different hiking trails available in the park and the most popular ones are the Tip and the Marsh Boardwalk Loop which is about 1km. When we were the trees were covered with wasps and I got stung three times so do beware if you’re planning to go.
We will definitely be returning to Point Pelee hopefully in May for bird watching and also would like to take the ferry to Peelee Island from the Leamington station.

OMG.You actually did everything what I recommended and beyond that. Steady smooth camera shots. taking your time to frame everything. Slowing down the waves at the right moment. Speeding up the people when its the right time. You have out done me here. Beautiful story telling. You make people want to go there and watch the whole video. I am extremely proud of you. This looks like a highend production now. A 1000% percent improvement.

Looks lovely. I know a Leamington in the UK pretty well, and I'm going to Canada for the first time later this year, but I won't make it to this area - I'll be a little furth East.
