I was in San Antonio only once, to take the oath and be inducted into the military, then off to boot camp, then Vietnam. I have to visit this beautiful city, 55 years after leaving Raymondville down south.

Born and raised in SA. Great job of showing all the great places to visit and the history. I have to add the Pearl! Love it. This was a great addition to sa back in the day.

We have vacationed 3 times in San Antonio. The Alamo is great, but the other 4 missions are worth the visit. There is also an amazing Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk not too far from our Hotel Contessa that is supposedly the oldest on the river walk. I’ll come again, I enjoy this city so much.

I worked at The Menger, you left out the ghost parts. I was a front desk worker and worked mornings so I would normally handle checkouts. The most famous ghost is Sally, a maid that worked there. She obviously stays in the original section from 1859 (when you go in, on the right side of the building). She apparently was having an affair with a cattle baron (they would stay in town for months while selling their cattle). Her husband caught on and burst into the hotel room, the affair partner jumped out the window from the second floor and then he shot Sally. The hotel kept her there, paid for her medical care and she lingered for a few days before passing. The hotel even paid for their funeral expenses and there is a vintage accounting book in the display case opened to that page. She was apparently so grateful, her ghost lingers. If a guest came and asked an employee, we were aloud to tell all the stories but we weren't allowed to volunteer any information. Her ghost was known for being in the hallways of the original section and if a guest saw the "maid", she would disappear around the corner. She really must be there because there were many times I would be checking out guests and they would complain about trying to flag down this maid to ask for usually extra towels or some such and they were "ignored". Sometimes I would ask clarification questions like what time "about 10:00" (no maids work past 5:00. What did she look like? Me: "oh really, a bonnet, a ankle length uniform, pushing a wicker cart, yes I will get them to send up some more towels. They didn't know the story and I wasn't allowed to tell them they saw her ghost. Also, Richard King from the King Ranch in south Texas passed there and there is the King suite where he died with a bed with huge thick posts and different furniture that he ordered himself which they kept. It seemed that the security guards were the only ones that usually saw him since he appeared much later at night, they said he looked kind of like Colonel Sanders except with a bolo tie instead of a string tie. All in all a fun summer job after I graduated Uni and then got my "real" job that applied to my major but an overall interesting experience. Way more ghosts but this is long enough... Oh, and there is a picture of Bill Clinton eating the mango ice cream and anytime he could, he would order a 5 gallon container of it to be flown to DC. OK, one more. While I was working there, a busser was bringing fresh glasses to the bar you saw in the vid (it isn't open till like 4:00 or something), there is a second floor half loft like area they didn't show, the busser looks up, sees a semi transparent figure on the upper floor that was giving him the "come here" finger beckoning sign. Although unlocked, the exit doors wouldn't open at first, he finally got out, quit on the spot, and got his sister to pick up his final paycheck.

Thank you Chet for this video. I'm from San Antonio, born and raised for 1/3 of my formative life and have missed all of what you showed. The Alamo and the Governors Palace were places I went to on school field trips. Then you showed the Buckhorn saloon and I felt like I was back home. Now I have to make a road trip and come back to my old stomping grounds. It would not be a long road trip ❤❤❤ Does the Lone Star museum still exist? I saw the the two headed calf that's why I'm asking. Also would love to have seen anything on the Breckenridge Zoo and Sunken Gardens. Maybe on the next video 👍

sorry but the host is not funny by any means and it does hurt the show. the show has enough good elements to be good, doesn't need to have a comedic side to add to it. those side skits was very lame, just stick to the town's features and good.

Yeah bullshit. Learn about the Apache and Comanche and their relationship with Spain and Mexico before you tout off about slavery.
@SOCCERNUT32 Жыл бұрын
Texas wanted to sucede from Mexico Because of Taxation with really no representation ( sound familiar ) and remember this was Spanish colonies before Mexico conquered from Spanish . FYI Mexicans got their Spanish for basically the same reasons : hint not for slavery freedom but for freedom of a ruling not represented .
