Day Trip to the Sequoia National Forest - Blocked at every turn - Forest Closed. I head up to Sequoia National Forest near The Trail of 100 Giants to check out a spot my brother told me about. Almost every turn I'm blocked with forest closures and downed trees. Even though there was significant fire damage there from last year it was a still a beautiful trip!

This video is a superb reminder that when it comes to dispersed camping, it takes maps, apps and gas....plus patience.

Lol that is for sure!!! It’s funny you mention that because last trip before this one I didn’t make it to Kings Canyon because I was running low on gas and I was worried I wouldn’t make it back! But I tell you I love disperse camping. It is so night to get out there by yourself.

Went down a bunny hole. After speed reading 800+ pdf pages: "S" on the forest service road indicates you are in the Sequoia National Park. Which you already knew.

Outstanding. And to be honest I wasn’t sure which part of that sequence determined the area!

It was really relaxing. I wish I would’ve had more time there. To be honest I kind of wanted to take a nap under the shade listening to the creek

A few of my favorite memories ..walking through a wooded area and first hearing what sounded like some rushing water...and walking a bit further towards the sound and suddenly coming upon a stream rushing down a small hilly bunch of rocks covered with autumn leaves. * sigh*.

Lol yeah it was starting to get away from me. They are really nice waterproof maps though so they are pretty nice. The book I showed in the truck is much more manageable but being at a page point is edge made it tough.

Praying for open doors and open national forests, as well as the extinguishing of the forest fires. Looks like an adventurous and off routine roadtrip. Beautiful in spite of the closures and previous fire damage.

Yeah I remember seeing the smoke and I think all the areas where closed. Seemed like every time I tried to go camping I was thwarted for one reason or another…

Another great and Zen like video Duane. I am bummed there is so much closer, we won't be able to do our yearly trip to forks for the kern this fall, but maybe the following year. Thanks for posting.

Thanks so much I really appreciate you saying that. I'm really trying to craft a good video (not the easiest task you know). Yeah I hear you about the closures. I'm thinking maybe I should just head more up the 395 and explore that direction. Although the weather needs to start cooling down. To be fair though there was a lot of areas that were still open it was just the new areas I hadn't explored that was blocking me... If you know of anyplace you think I should check out please let me know!

@@dustyroaddestinations I was poking around 395 this week around Mammoth/June Lakes area. Owens River Road is well-known among dispersed campers and I saw lots of great spots. The temps were in the low 70s, and there were tons of quiet and shady options. If you don't mind driving that far, there's so much cool stuff to see along 395. It's one of the best parts of California.

Hi Vicky thanks so much for the suggestion. Honestly that is where I was thinking of exploring next. As it stands it takes me 2.5 hours to get to sequoia (at least this part I was at) and June Lake would be 3.5 hours. So not that bad. If you have a specific area let me know the coordinates and I’ll specifically go to that spot!!!

@@dustyroaddestinations I didn't camp but explored since I'd read so much about it. Just after turning off of 395 onto Owens River Road, you can begin taking forest roads to the left and right for at least several miles. I poked around for a bit and saw lots of good spots. I'm sure Google Earth will help with this a little more. I was renting a home in Lee Vining but would definitely go back there for camping.

Lee Vining is such a cool area I'd love to live there! Thanks for the info, like I said I'm planning on venturing out to that area soon. Was hoping to do it this weekend but it looks like those plans have been foiled... Thanks again Vicky!
