That’s actually a REALLY realistic skin tone. I think because you often exaggerate undertones in your style (like those fun pink/red noses you usually do) you may be more used to how that looks, so this doesn’t look “right” next to your usual colored pencils. But this actually looks incredibly close to real life, to my eye. Not better, not worse, just different, and still really great.

With harder pencils like the polychromos it is best to layer the pencils a lot to get smoother blends and not press too hard until you have enough layers. The white is very transparent so using a white from another brand is a good help. Bonus of more oil based coloured pencils is you don't get wax bloom, which is a thin white-ish film on top of the art that can appear over time.
@ttttttttp2 Жыл бұрын
Something to consider with these pencils is you can use an oil based medium, like in oil paints, to blend out colors. At least thats what I remember. :) lacri fine arts is a youtuber on here who demonstrates this method a lot and she prefers this brand over prisma color. Another bonus to oil based pencils is you will not get wax bloom, and could add many more layers to a piece

Thank you for mentioning the oil vs wax! It's definitely a struggle to find the right colour sometimes. It took me 5,5 years to complete both the Polychromos set and the Luminance set, 220 coloured pencils. Still missing the perfect colour for some drawings haha. Personally I LOVE putting down a base of Polychromos and blend it with the Luminance to make it all come to together beautifully. It's always just trial and error to see what works best to get just the right look and just the right colour. Gosh I love art haha

The alcohol in markers breaks down the binder. Its actually a great way to blend color pencils by using the colorless marker blender. A lot of people using Polychromos use that or similar methods to blend.

See, I really love your end result 😍 Polychromos truly shine when you add lots and lots of light layers. Alcohol actually works as a great blender for Polychromos, so using your markers on top (or the colourless copic blender) works a treat. I love using a paper blending stump with some odourless mineral spirits for blending, then add more layers afterwards. So when comparing to Prismacolor, yes they are a slower medium being a harder pencil, but they are better for small details as you can get a really sharp point. So you might find using polychromos require a “Hard Days Night” work…

@katalinelo8011 Жыл бұрын
You didn't put down enough pigments/layers. They don't blend like soft core pencils with pressure only, you need several light layers on top of each other. And yes, it takes like forever. That's why I switched to watercolour :D

These are literally my favorite color pencils for drawing with lots of colors. They blend so well and are vibrant. Since I do a lot of anime style drawings, it really helps that the colors stick and don't get muddied by over shading. I love ousting them on top of markers to add a bit more texture and depth to a piece. I actually think he came out very nice, while yes, a nice peachy color seemed to be missing, I think for their skin tones, it actually worked out quite well. They have a bit more realistic skin tones compared to your more stylized coloring. They are both good, just different ways of drawing the same subject matter.

Usually, polychromos as an oil based don’t work well with techniques used for wax pencils. For oil, you will need to blend colours gradually in light layers as a whole. In comparison to wax based you can lay down colour anywhere and use a transition colour to then blend the 2 together. So overall if you are going to use these again then try to blend the pencils as a whole by blending the colours as your first stage in light layers instead of laying down colour first then blending later as it makes your drawing look choppy and uneven. Hope this helps!!
