this is why I love the tornado v2 and v3 adjustments. especially the v3, no tool needed. Other than the annoying length of time it take to adjust the magnets and not being able to adjust the ctc magnets, the v3 is my favorite cube of all time

When it comes to the Adjustment System, I always thought that the Tornado V2 learned from the TengYun V2's mistakes. Only the Magnet Carousel is arguably better. And in an ironic twist of fate, the TengYun V3 went the Valk Elite route.

I bought this because it was half price. I am VERY new to cubing, but I have gotten my fastest time on this (lucky scramble) on its out-of-the-box settings. I did play with them to see if I could feel any difference, and I couldn't really. It's definitely looser, but that hasn't really changed the feel of it when solving, but that may be my newbie-ness. I put the green... uh... bits. I went from the whites to the oranges and felt nothing, then the greens. The only thing I seem to have introduced is some spring squeak on the blue face. I'm kind of pleased to know that it's adjustment system is baffling and unknowable, and it's not just me not knowing what I'm doing. While I seemingly can solve faster on this, I still prefer the feel of my QiYi Thunderclap.

Hey Shawn! I look forward to the Mega Comparison every year, and this year there has been ONE question on my mind that no one has addressed. Are the Gan 13 pieces interchangeable with the 12 and 11? The 11 and 12 were, just wondering if the 13 follows suit. Thanks for another amazing year of cubing content, looking forward to another 😊

Damn that’s a shame, thanks for the review. Tbh I had no luck getting the v2 to perform well, it was fast, plastic was hard, and it was a very squared off cube. However it would corner twist during solves very easily and if you were to tighten the tensions enough to stop the inadvertent corner twists you’d lose all the speed. Not to mention a lot of ppl were having the a lot of ppl seemed to have an issue with the bottom inside wall of the centers breaking. I have a bunch of 3x3’s and the tenyun v2 will probably be my first and last dayan 3x3. The only hope I’m holding out for this brand is the dayan nezha 5x5 will be superior to my yj mgc 5x5.

Hello Shawn. Great t-shirt! 😃 Really interesting video - a very well considered and constructive critique. Looking forward to your review of the new MS cube comparing black and primary internals. Their advertising suggests there are differences (black being 'mature appearance. Feel the speed on every turn', while the primary boasts 'more texture, original and wild'.) Best wishes for a happy and wonderful 2023.

Yeah the GAN12 has tighter and looser reversed on it's different settings. It's my main cube and I can never remember because of this. It's setup now but every time I go to change it I get confused. It sorta makes sense depending on where the count the start for distance to the core, it might make more sense if every other cube didn't do it opposite previously. Edit: Yeah I get the GAN11 system was annoying, I instantly thought of it when I saw this cube. I much prefer the GAN 356 X or GAN12 systems, 11 was the worst. Even still once you have it setup you don't change it much, but that manual was the worst I'd seen. I also start by feeling the extreme adjustments by each setting one by one before I dial it in from loosest to tighter. Then I try dialing things out and in a bit one by one over time, eventually it's perfect and I never touch it. If my cube style changes, I'm probably on to a new cube anyway. Edit2: I really don't like screws, they're more finnicky to get perfect adjustments, having to count the number of turns etc. They also can strip and damage the core or wear it out over time. There's plenty of other systems that work perfectly for me without those draw backs. However screws are great in cheap cubes like the Kylin. Edit3: You have a strong bias for stiff cubes, at the end you complain about spring weakness and I think ooh that might be a good cube for me. I think as cubes get better the trend is for them to turn lighter and so changes the style and preferences of cubers. Manufacturers won't be following this trend for no reason, they see what sells. Older cubers have gotten used to tighter cubes, you're also a musician with strong hands. I'm biased to lighter cubes because I have muscle fatigue issues. See if you can get a little used to a light cube, try the lightest setting you can for a week and then try going a little lighter and keep it up for a month. Then go to and old cube and see if you now think it's too tight or just right still. It's a bit of an experiment you can try, at the very least you'll understand a bit more about what other cubers might like.

I feel like this cube is late by a couple years. Gan got rid of those replaceable parts in 2021 with Gan 12. Moyu has a great and easy to use adjustment system since GTS 3M. QiYi made a numerical adjustment system without any replaceable parts in Tornado v2 and further improved on that in Tornado v3 which is toolfree. But this, in late 2022? No core magnets? Replaceable parts to change the distance? Come on Dayan. By the way, I'm so used to Gan numbers for distance and compression. Distance feels like it's measured in some units like mm: 0.6 is tighter than 0.8, 1 is tighter than 2, etc. The higher the number, the bigger the distance and the looser the cube. And compression increases with the number; 1 is the loosest, 5 or 6 is the tightest. I always stumble when I'm asked about my settings in the Tornado: is 1 the loosest or the tightest?..

I really feel like manufacturers have just taken these adjustments too far. It's good to have more options in the cube you buy, but why does it have to be so complicated, and sometimes constricting? The only downside of a regular screw is that they might be a bit intimidating to new cubers, and the tensions aren't completely consistent. Now i don;t completely agree with this but there must be better solutions to this. The spring setting should also be way easier, just copy what moyu did with the gts3 and a lot of following cubes. It's easy to understand, can easily be done without tools (espacially if the design changes just a tiny bit) and gives you a lot of options. As for magnet setting, that could also be more consistent. The mechanisms of how it works are pretty good in general, but the notation of what is stronger or weaker is often complicated and something you have to remember. while the mechanism of the tornado v3 kinda sucks, since it requires a tool that easily breaks, they did the notation right by having + for stronger magnets and - for weaker settings. It's just so much more intuitive than numbers or whatever. I feel like cubing manufacturers could do a lot better if they stopped reinventing the wheel, and just used the best parts from different cubes.

So in the end, did you try the orange core ? Just in case it is the tight one 😁 I didnt really get how the magnets works..it's in the feet ? 🤔
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
I didn't try the orange as the green felt the exact same and I was exhausted. For the feet, there is a larger cylindrical magnet in the stalk of the corner. It gets moved up or down to move closer to other magnets in the bottom of the edge.
