I’m the owner of a Ruger SP101, 3 inch barrel and a S&W 686 Plus, 6 inch barrel. Both are stainless and have beautiful wood grips. I’m a classical guy when it comes to revolvers, but I must admit that the contemporary look of the Taurus is appealing. Great review - Subscribed.

@@Dayattherange In the 80's I had my own FFL and was a staunch supporter of S&W. Back then Taurus revolvers looked liked a carbon copy of S&W revolvers but their build quality was rather lacking and just didn't care for the Taurus brand, though I LOVED their PT-92 pistol and felt it was an excellent alternative to the more expensive Beretta 92FS. Today I'm highly impressed with most everything Taurus offers now, as their build quality has seriously improved.

They us to make a hand gun ring set that was close to the stuff they make for the ar now. You know the clamp that fits the short rail on the top of the ar and then the mouth gets wider to hold the scope. I know they had that tipe of set up for 4 in barrel's back in the early 80's. I know this video is 4 years old but I just stumbled upon it and you’ve completely sold me on this revolver! I’ve only had one Taurus revolver ever and it was a judge that was really good but I sold it during the pandemic for what I paid for it years earlier new. I had a S&W 3” 629 with fancy wood grips that was really just miserable to shoot recoil wise and it really seemed I was wasting the 44mags power with only the 3” barrel. So I ended up selling that during the pandemic also for more than I had bought it new 5 yrs earlier! Now Ive got a bunch of 44mag ammo with no pistol to shoot it with till now! I’m ordering this pistol as soon as my profit sharing check comes in! I had no desire to shoot 44mag anymore till I watched this video and I believe with those grips in combination with the weight and porting of that gun I could get back into shooting 44mag again! 👍🏻

I have a personal preference for five-inch barrelled revolvers. Many years ago S&W had numerous 5" revolvers in various calibers and my very first S&W was a K-38 revolver with a 5" bbl with target trigger and target hammer. It was the perfect barrel length (for me) and was balanced just right. I love the look of this Taurus and I especially like the fact it has no internal locking mechanism the way modern S&W's do. I still own an 80's model blued 586 and I love their older revolver design vs the current S&W offerings. I really like this Taurus.

PS-- I live in the lovely Constitutional State of Arizona. While we certainly have ranges... and they absolutely have their place and purpose... for the most part, we usually prefer to truck a few minutes out into the desert and shoot in more open and "creative" environment. We can set up almost anything, provided we can truck it in and pack it all out. For instance, we'd surely be seeing how high the .44Mag launched soda pop cans into the air. 🤣

Not bad. It's something I'd probably get if I ever liked revolvers _but_ the two I handled (5.1" and the 8.3" barrel) today out of curiosity were broken. Brand new and even the clerk couldn't open the cylinders and the hammers were unusually stiff. The deal breaker is the sights - black on black is like nickel on nickel, hard for target acquisition and looks cheap. With the price this usually goes for that is very disappointing, like my Desert Eagle, which I recently replaced those unsightly things with adjustable fiber optic sights. Instantly 1000% better. Raging Hunter does look like a beast and performs well. Last time at the range there was a guy who had this and it was satisfyingly very loud. It's nice what Taurus did for the grip, all soft and comfy! Not entirely sure why people are passionate about wood.

I have a Raging Bull 44 stainless with 8 3/4 in. barrel. The scope base they shipped with it was for another 44 Taurus and didn't fit. They didn't make one for it at the time. I had to do some milling with my Dremel tool on the openings on the vented rib to get it to fit. I put a Sightron red dot on it. That has non standard rigs and chintzy mounting hardware that tend to rust. There were also some casting imperfections near the trigger guard I didn't notice when I accepted it from the dealer. Ive been anxious to get my hands on one of these and finally found one. Found it brand new at some mom and pop in Louisiana for 550. Hopefully everything goes smooth with getting it shipped to me because Ive never bought anything from these people, let alone actually heard of them. Honestly I dont usually opt for revolvers in this price range. I like higher end revolvers, because revolvers arent forgiving like semi-auto pistols are. Cheap revolvers tend to shoot like shit, have garbage actions, gritty cylinders, terrible sights, and the balance is atrocious. However, this Raging Hunter has intrigued me and with all the reviews seemingly raving about it, Id like to play with it for a little while. We will see if it can match the ole Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan and Im really excited to see how it fairs against the S&W performance center 629. I know its not a fair comparison, as those revolvers are 3 times the cost, but thats going to determine whether it goes in the safe or gets sold to someone else.

You need a solid base cantilever mount for the LER scope on this revolver due to the short picitiny rail. Dual ring base not gonna work. You can find them but check the base length and make sure it will fit. Last one I bought was about $250 and that was a decade ago. You can get them with various cantilever length and the one I had was marketed to the flat top AR crowd at the time. Problem I had was 2 picitiny rails mounted to close to allow proper use of an LER and dual ring setup. The solid base worked like a charm though.

Hey Taurus! If this a hunter model, it will lugged around. Give that rear sight a metal cage around rear sight like the rubber cover, but stays there to protect rear sight while being functional. As far as the upper rail, extend it onto frame. Or, mr revolver, try a one piece mount. Similar to an AR mount, if theres one out there? Taurus has come along way! G2C and TX22. Both great. This one is on my radar, if they make corrections.

I do not know about the cage around the rear sight but adding a more rugged rear sight would be trick, like I did on this revolver kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5eyg3aCbsxll6M as most have commented on the rail I think they intended it for a red dot. But you can get a 6 inch model and easily mount a scope.

5:00-5:30 Uh, get a longer Taurus 44. mag. They make 6 and 8 inch raging hunters, and as a eye witness, i bought my 5 inch raging hunter for $699 and the 6 and 8 inch ones were also $699. I chose the shorter one for defense purposes, not hunting purposes, chose the hunter style because i know its top of the line. My belief stands that the shorter one doesn’t need a “scope”. It’s short. Simple as that. Mount a Holosun, Vortex, or Romeo on the short one. Or get a canted light attachment and put a flashlight on it and let the light sit off to the side of the shroud. The small one can take down any animal in north America but, the short one doesn’t need a scope. It’s just not reasonable. Still 5 stars for me, at least they added a optic ready rail. The 6 and 8 inch ones have way way more rail length, you start digging into longer barrels, jump on a scope, but I’m not tagging mountain lions at 200 yards with a 5 inch revolver with a red dot.

I just applied for a permit for the Taurus M44 that my FFL dealer has (yes, I live in the forever restrictive state of Hawaii #twoweekwait) and after watching this video, I've got to say I really like the looks of this revolver. Looks like Taurus has really stepped up its game. I might just have to buy this one as well.... 👍

Where are you able to shoot in Hawaii - indoor ranges only?
@TheIrishd5013 жыл бұрын
@@theplinkerslodge6361.... I live on Oahu and there is a public outdoor range by the "Koko Head crater" at the south east side of the island. Rifle is now limited to 100 yards, the pistol side is pretty lame as it is set up for "bullseye" shooting (25 & 50 yards only)... no realistic practical ranges so new shooters often get intimidated and discouraged because they aren't shooting the nice tight groups, and now with the price of ammo.... 😬
@theplinkerslodge63613 жыл бұрын
@@TheIrishd501 Well, it sounds amazing you even got a CCW at all, living in Hawaii. I am in NY and still have to drive 40 minutes minimum to shoot - although there are a number fish-and-game clubs or private shooting associations in the area I don't belong to. I have to believe ammo on Hawaii must be ludicrously $$$.
@TheIrishd5013 жыл бұрын
@@theplinkerslodge6361..... Yes, we're pretty lucky on this island. As for the ammo, I reload everything I shoot (except the 22's) and yes ammo here is pretty high now (Primers are non-existant), 223 goes around a $1 per round!

What's the difference, mechanically, between my tracker and this Raging Hunter? I have a stainless 4" Taurus Tracker I bought new from a friend for $400. A new set of Hogue girls later and it is ready for grizzly country. I may get a green Day-Glo front sight B/C green is easier to focus on than red. Late maybe a Kydex OWB holster.

I have a Taurus titanium revolver in .41 magnum and absolutely love it. It's a five shot and weighs less than a pound and a half loaded. My brother still owes me $5 for the perched crow forty yards out. It's also thinned a couple of sounders.
@claytonlovendale20214 жыл бұрын
Probably the rails won't fit full pistol scopes. What about red dot sights? They're smaller in profile, and you can keep both eyes open, so you also can use the periferal vision as well. Good for self protection, and hunting. As for double action, forget it. The single action is alot lighter.

The 8" bbl version makes more sense for hunting. I've liked Taurus since the early 80's, but that goofy orange back strap, why?

This gun should be used in an action movie (Kaboom) as the bad guy's pistol. I'm sick of all the 9mm spraying films.
@James-pq5uf5 жыл бұрын
If you must have an optic, use one good four-screw ring and offset the optic to the side that gives the best eye relief. With a pistol scope or red dot, you don't really need two rings.

The ‘transfer bar’ also gives a measure added safety if dropped as long as nothing is holding the trigger back. The trigger must be held bak to fire or the transfer bar moves up to block firing pin/hammer contact…just sayin!

The shrouded barrel with a tension nutis reminiscent of Dan Wesson revolvers. My first question upon seeing that is or are they going to be producing different length barrels that can be changed out on one frame. Because if they did then a longer barrel would allow a full scope to be put on it.I see some people saying that it was meant for a red. And not a scope but there are a lot of us who do not like red dots because I do not want anything with batteries on my weapon I want something that is simply there
@roadsideprophet20125 жыл бұрын
@Logan Waltz yes you can if you have a longer barrel than the one reviewed in this video. do you know if you will be able to get different lengths barrels and shrouds that you can change out on one frame kind of like the old Dan Wesson pistol packs?
