Dolly is a great songwriter and the topic of child neglect is a difficult subject, her presentation of the song is charming, yet heartfelt. She's such a talent .

Dolly Parton wrote songs about real life. Tragic and sad life and also Happy and uplifting. Because her singing reaches deep into your heart with realism, sometimes the songs hurt. But we must face the bad as well as the good.

Thank you so much Sweet Lady for playing one of my favorite Dolly Parton Songs. I really mean it. It really, stuck to my heart. Hopefully it will serve as a awaking call for parents who have little bitty children and realize that they are a gift of love from God to you. Everybody's time is limited in this journey through time that we are traveling. God is not blind and God is not deaf. And thank God that He is a Good and Loving God. Thank God that He felt in His heart that this pretty Little girl named Sandy and her Little puppy dog fo not have to be hungry and lonely and suffer no more. He took them both to Heaven where they will not suffer anymore. Thank God Our God is Good. Love ya' too. Adios. PS: Could you please play a couple of songs by Dolly Parton for me? One is "Jolene" and the other one is "Here I come again". Thank you Sweetheart, I thank you very much. Keep being nice. Keep being you. Adios 😢❤😢❤😢❤😢❤

according to songfacts, dolly had to cut this song from her set whenever she performed in clubs where alcohol was served. it was making some of the customers mad at her.

It's certainly tragic when a parent puts himself or herself first... not guarding their children like hawks..especially when they're very young. Dolly is so good at communicating such sad situations.

What's really sad is that there are moms and dads just like this, neglecting their kids. What a crime! I can't hear this song without breaking down with tears. Saddest song EVER! I love it,

You don't sound like a fool baby. I was 9 years old when this song came out. I first heard her perform this on the old Mike Douglas show. I cried for hours after hearing it. I thought about it for days. It's just a story in song that you never forget. Obviously I never forgot, at 56 years old; I was interested in seeing your reaction. I love music reaction videos; especially when country music isn't the main genre for the reactive listener.

Oh l knew we'd both be a cryin listening to this as I've heard her sing it a few times..l know what's coming but l still cry..you're right in saying her lyrics and how she sings it give you an actual picture if what us happening and that is in my opinion one of Dollys gifts as a songwriter she's able with her lyrics and the emotion in her voice to put you in that position just like in Jolene when she asks her not to take her man just because she can.... a very special lady who has used her dirt poor childhood to weave wonderful songs..l do think that there is a possibility that some of those songs came from what she saw or heard growing up..l agree about listening to it..its depressing and so very sad so anyone in a low mood .definitely do not listen to it..reminds me of the wonderful MY Coat of Many Colours which is absolutely amazing..🇬🇧💞🙏✝️👍👏🇺🇸

True country singer just like Loretta Lynn. Grew up poor and made it big. No handouts or privilege at all. Made it the hard way and natural meant to be way. I do suggest you play Coal Minors Daughter by Loretta Lynn please! Such a classic by another Legend.

If you didn't care for that sad, "Pitiful" song then never try Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton's "Jeannie's Afraid Of The Dark" "Malena," "The Party," "The Bridge," or "Chas"....Not enough tissues in the box 😭 Other contenders to try: "HONEY" by BOBBY GOLDSBORO. "PATCHES' by Dicky Lee, "Ebony Eyes" by The Everly Brothers, "Moody River" by Pat Boone, "Tell Laura I Love Her" by Ray Peterson, "Long Black Veil" by Lefty Frizzell, (or anyone else. although I prefer John Anderson (haunting) !)

It's sad, but if you think about it you can take solace in the fact that she passed in peace being loved and cared about possibly for the first time, even if it was just love from a stranger

This song made you cry but if you want to listen to a song by Dolly that will make you laugh, you should react to Travelin' Man. The best version of it that I have found is when she sang it on the Tonight Show for Johnny Carson.
