Yes, yes. YES! Back in 1975, this was a jukebox favorite - everyone in the bar would spontaneously start singing the different vocal parts when it broke down to the acapella rounds. One of the very top happiest memories of my college years... EVERYONE bounced with this one! Great reaction, Angela... Knew you would love this (like everyone else does!!)

Their first #1 hit. It was written and sung by guitarist Patrick Simmons. He sometimes gets overlooked because he's in a band that has also featured singer/songwriters Tom Johnston and Micheal McDonald.

Just a flat out perfect song to have on while sitting by a river on a lazy hazy hot summer Saturday afternoon, when the sky is a mix of orange and pink. Can't go wrong, great reaction as always Angela, love your expression when the music faded out and in during those harmonies! 🧡

This song is so atmospheric. From the wind chimes at the beginning to the fiddle, to the accapella singing (almost church - like) you can close your eyes and see the Spanish moss hanging from the trees. It exudes the South.

THIS song was the Doobies first #1 hit, way before the Michael McDonald era of the band Angela... As per wiki, personnel on the song were: Patrick Simmons - composer, acoustic guitars, lead vocals Tom Johnston - backing vocals[23] Tiran Porter - bass guitar, backing vocals Keith Knudsen - backing vocals, dubbed-in drums John Hartman - drums Novi Novog - viola Arlo Guthrie - autoharp, wind chimes Ted Templeman - producer Try ChinaGrove for another early Doobies vibe tune!

My fave Doobies song, just a masterpiece! Many folks like the Doobies during the Michael MacDonald era. It seemed, though, more like the Doobies just became Michael's back-up band, their identity being absorbed by Michael. Thanks for your reaction.

I love your high school time line 9/74 - 6/78 because all the songs that came out during that time Reminds you of your high school days. Just like my high school time line was 9/78 - 6/82, all the songs from that period instantly takes me back in time to my high school days beginning in the summer of 1978! The 70s was in my Opinion the best decade for music hands down!! Wow those were and forever will be treasured memories!😊

Back in 1978, in college, we sponsored the Doobies at WSU (Washington State) As part of the committee that put the band on, I got to meet them as they set up. Even partook of some herbal refreshment with the road crew and a couple of the band members! I have always been a great fan of the Doobs and will continue to be until I'm pushing up daisies. They are still touring today with some of the original band members, including on occasion, Michael. Thanks for your delightful reaction, Angela. It does this old hippie's heart good to see some of the younger folks appreciating the good stuff of the 70's. Blessings!

"Black Water" was the B side to the single "Another Park Another Sunday". The radio DJs stopped playing Another Park Another Sunday because of the line "the radio just seems to bring me down" so they flipped it over and played Black Water instead and it went to number one.

Your comments on thier versatility was spot-on..they crossed over into so many genres ya really couldn't put a name to thier music..just good time stuff people of every race and age can't help but like, 50 years later and 50 years from now.

Saw the original Doobies live at Long Beach Arena , Calif. back in 1975 ( a few weeks after I saw Led Zeppelin there). There was a permamant huge mirror ball in the center of the domed ceiling of the arena. I and my woman were down about 8 rows center from the stage and during this song, the house lights were turned way down ,and spot lights were shown on the many mirrors on the ceiling ball that made the arena seem to rotate ,even though it was the ball that rotated the pencil thin light spot reflections around the arena walls and upper audience. It was really a great concert for only about $10.50. Ahh I lived during some amazing rock concerts. I am 74 and wouldn't trade my experiences for anything that happens today.

Way back in the 1970s I was watching some local newsmagazine type TV show. The Doobie Brothers were playing in the city that night and she was talking with them. She actually asked where they got the name Doobie Brothers. One of them told her that they got it from the old Romper Room children's program, Do Be a ... Don't Be a ..." She believed it!

My mother worked at TC3 Upstate New York when this came out. At the time the campus only had one building it was mainly all wide open spaces exterior walls were all glass, in certain parts of the building they would have the music piped into it. Where moms cubicle was, it was right underneath one of the speakers and this song came out amongst many other popular songs of the day . And it just turned out to be one of her favorite rock songs as far as that genre goes..

This came out when I was a little kid and I loved it right away and always looked forward to when it would come on the radio again. It still sounds great today. I also loved the rocker that they did, China Grove. But no matter what, they always seem to have a bit of funk to whatever they're doing and definitely a lot of soul. Fun reaction.

Black Water ! Great song. I saw them in concert and they had the Memphis horns for the end of this song. They had no special effects like other bands but they made me want to get up and dance and I don't dance. They had just gotten Jeff (Skunk) Baxter but not yet Micheal McDonald. It is also memorable because I had just reconnected with a cousin and we went together. It was the last time i saw him before he died a month later.

Love your cute sexy dancing pretty girl! Yes, this song was huge in 1974-75. One of the Doobie Brothers greatest hits. I remember this song all over the radio when it came out when I was a freshman in HS. You'd think hearing this band they would be from the South, like maybe the Mississippi River delta in Louisiana. But most of this band was from the SanJose CA area. You are correct, they had a knack for playing rootsy countryish Americana tunes in addition to straight ahead rock. If you haven't already, I would highly recommend reacting to South City Midnight Lady, Black Eyed Cajun Woman, and Natural Thing from Captain and Me album. 😉😊
