As I got older I really started to educate myself more about our Hmong culture. I realized It just doesn’t sound pleasant when using term like “pay for the bride” “pay up for the bride” or “buying the bride” but understand more the negotiation is about settling an appropriate DOWRY. It serves as a gift/respect for the in laws and a way to ask for her hand in marriage. Back in the old days the male would bring gold, silver bar, fabrics/silks and such because that’s what was valuable at the time. Now these days it’s easier to just use money. A dowry is a way to honor her parents in thanking them for their sacrifices of raising her and basically saying if it wasn’t for you guys then there wouldn’t be her. The in laws will use some of those money towards the wedding and even gift some back to the couple to start their new lives. There’s so much more depth into this but I’m not going to type it all on here. Ppl can do their research. However, I’ve seen and heard of so many good and bad cases. One where some families don’t like each other so during the negotiations it doesn’t go well and the couples having to elope to find their own happiness. There’s shady negotiations where the parents don’t care about their daughters and just want the money. There’s cases where the male got the girls pregnant and in order for him to not run off he must married her and place a dowry’s. I’ve also seen cases where it doesn’t matter how rich the male is, if he’s abusive and had married multiple times then the parents will not accept his dowry or allow him to marry their daughter, and vice versa where the parent don’t care about the daughter. But anyways congratulations to your brother.

So this is a bit off-topic, but I've been watching for a long time, and I know that quite a few people in this community are into manifestation and so on. I honestly have to say I struggled quite a bit to really convince myself to believe in it, even though I wanted to. I literally spent hundreds on courses, but nothing really worked for me haha. But recently, I found a video called "Create The Life Your Soul Craves" by Christian Weninger. I feel like an ad for it lol, but I just wanted to share because it really helped me make changing my reality work for me and finally start my passion business. I first heard about manifestation in the comments of this channel, so I thought it might also help others.

Hi Sandy, I am much older than you and I enjoy watching your videos because being old, I lost myself during the process of life. Your videos brings so much reminder to myself and I appreciate your spirituality about life. Just want to say you are still very young to get married. Your brother at 21 is extremely young to get married but I know everyone's timeline of marriage is different. It is ok if your brother is getting married before you because his path in life is different than yours. Each person has their own path. It took me awhile to understand that instead of being so hard on myself. I am not married at my old age. Anyways, I love these deep conversations videos from you and also your travel videos. My very unsolicited advise is to stop dating down. No offense to "gym crush," but he literally lives in a shoe box. Which means he's very regular w/ a basic job /mindset or he's still too young & hasn't built any meaningful wealth yet. Do you want a family in the future? Kids? Or maybe just a more stress free/comfortable lifestyle? Well you have the looks and the demur, you should aim for MORE if you're going to deal with or entertain a guy.
