I think that’s a good idea to have a focus. One week you can focus on reading than the next week you can focus on writing. The week after that you can focus on math and etc.

I also teach second grade and implement OG in my classroom. Your kids are very far along in their sounds! I noticed several in your 3 Part Drill that we don't cover until later in the year. We use whiteboards for our multisensory part of the 3 Part Drill. I have some sand and sand trays, and I have been trying to get brave and use them. Your video inspired me to get them out!

Outstanding teacher ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I ❤️ the way you ignore low-level calling out and keep the flow of the lesson going. Your activities are well-explained and modelled .👏

This was so fun to see you teach and explain things. It made me realize how different second grade is from third. We don’t do much phonic’s we probably should do a lot more!! Loved seeing what you do in second grade!

Thank you! To be honest I didn’t teach phonics at all last year and we really needed it in reading and in writing. After taking the OG phonics training I realized how important it is and have made it a huge focus for us this year!

Someone may have already said this but another hack for putting up letters is to use pushpins before you staple. That way you can easily move them around if need be. That might work for you until you change out your bulletin board to better than paper.😊

Thank you for filming! I love hearing what you are doing:). Your slides may take time to make, but you will love it next year when they are already made! Of course you will tweak things, but they are so nice to teach with.

WOW, really enjoyed watching your phonics lesson with the sand. I was just like you when I was teaching, sand and glitter were not my friends. You modeled the use of the sand trays amazingly. I taught for 41 years in grades first, second and third. Most of my career was in second grade. I was trained in Academic Failure and Fundations which use a lot of the Orton-Gillingham strategies. Your second grade students will benefit from your phonics teaching. Kudos, to you! You are doing a fantastic job. Love your videos, even though I am retired, Keep filming, I am sure you are helping a lot of teachers.

Thank you James, I’m so glad to have you here! The OG training really was a game changer for me when I took it this summer. I can’t wait to see how these strategies and explicit phonics help my students in all areas this year!
