Thanks for replying. i have built a model railway based on the northeast, South shield station is the centre piece on the layout. which took almost 2 years the build. anything north east, i am interested in. thanks again Tony

Not much changed at Chester le Street. Had an Aunt lived at Birtley, just down the road northwards. She and her husband Ruben manager and manageress oh William IV Hotel then Travellers Rest. Now the swimming pool site. Nice shot of the High level Bridge from Gateshead side

Love the music -- it's not true "train sound" and some wouldn't care for that -- but it has the leisurely repetitive feel of train travel through the countryside (when there was a countryside). I'm 77 and remember the feeling. Truth is, the train rhythms were so strong that they were hypnotic but not, like the tune playing, repetitive --- they changed timbre and tempo often depending on the terrain, the weather, and of course the puffy halting stops and pull-pull inching away. Thanks for posting.

This is great, it's a pity that "Shildon Shops" aren't included, my father came home from WW2 aged 23yrs and started an apprenticeship at Shildon and worked there all of his working life, Although he was 63yrs old, he was devastated when Margaret Thatcher privatised everthing and closed Shidon Sops down, in fact he never got over it.My two sons who visited Coundon many times in their chilhood know York Railway Museam like the back of their hands,proudly shown to them by their grandad
