Dayton is a city and county seat in Rhea County, Tennessee, United States.[8] As of the 2020 census, the city population was 7,065.[4] The Dayton Urban Cluster, which includes developed areas adjacent to the city and extends south to Graysville.
Dayton was the site of the Scopes Trial in 1925 dealing with the creation-evolution controversy.

If I may humbly add, as he is driving through the square, this is the location of the Scopes v. State of Tennessee trial (1925) that set forth in motion the discussions to teach evolution and introduce a broader view of science in the public school system. The shops in the square area or downtown are worth a stop for some unique finds, ice cream, and a chance to meet some wonderful people. Things that would have been lovely to see are Pocket Wilderness (home of two waterfalls, Richland Creek, and amazing hiking), Dogwood (hiking and rock climbing), Chicamauga Lake, and a very cool greenway. There is more to see and I would predict this area to build up over the next few years as people start to discover all that it has to offer. I don't want it to become a confused cluster of busy-ness, but I think it has the potential to attract more anglers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. I hope to see it become a place that becomes better known for those things, as it has so much potential.
