drivers don't downshift to help slow down the car, they downshift to have maximum acceleration coming out of the corner.

@JUMPMAN23MCM it's both, having the engine rev as you try to brake: 1. you prevent driving (in this case rear) whells locking 2. you assist in slowing the car down, compression forces in the engine affect the transmission.

Great lesson! Thx a lot for sharing,

@tyresmoke yes, you are right; compression forces help slow the car down, but in racing, that is not the primary function for decelerating the car. but rowing through the gears is simply a waste of energy and unneeded stress placed upon the clutch and transmission

Awesome driving Cory! You get through traffic like it's a cake walk. Excellent instructional video for us newbies.

Nice driving Cory! Sweet bump on the slow guy coming out of the infield!!

You know RSR14, watching this vid makes me wonder about the behavior of some of those other PCA drivers... It looks like a lot of those guys need to use their mirrors more. I mean, it's a club race for fun; you got into some pretty tight squeezes through the infield...

Don't you just love that GT2. The old fart still has enough muscle. I'd even buy a replica of that just for the looks, those hips are so sexy. Now if they just made a racing version of that GT2 RS... Very cool vid by the way, professional driving, tops.

Set apart the drivers'skill (I ignore it and no offence for anyone),the 993 seems clearly faster in flat out sections, but slower entering into turns and may be with a lower braking power. In burn out accelerations are similar up to the 3rd gear I dare say. Can smo tell me sth about the bhp output gap between these cars and the approx.top speed on the bankings ? Thx.

Why is this comment downvoted to hell? This guy is the only one here that knows what he's talking about. There is no logical need to use the engine and transmission to decelerate when the brakes are more than capable of locking the wheels with no problem.

Sorry, but that is bullshit. Think about it: do you think the brakes of a race car need support from the drivetrain when slowing down? The reason why they downshift during braking is because it is easier than doing it mid corner. And yes, the sound is the tranny ;).
