Excellent video Rauko, it really helped me out! What a nice little trick to get that hair behind the shoulders and gravity to make it tighter. Hopefully Daz will continue to make improvements on dforce especially the time it takes to simulate on some hair products.

Yeah, the time for simulation is just a pain .. the Animation in this vid took over 15 minutes .. and I had to do 2 sims to get what I wanted (well .. 3 .. because I simmed once .. and accidentally cleared the sim before finishing the video segment!)

Great video! A good tip is to hide everything in the scene except that which the simulated object is going to colide with before running the simulation. That usually speeds up the simulation time. So in cases like this you'd want to hide everything in the scene except the hair, the figure, and her shirt before running the simulation and that would probably speed things up. Even things like fibermesh eyebrows and lashes can really increase sim time.

@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 2 жыл бұрын
Hhhmm .. . Any item on the store can be made to look good in the hands of a competent artist .. and the PAs in the stores are only going to use their best promo images .. The things I go by are .. previous examples I've purchased myself .. so for instance, I have a number of go-to creators on the store who I trust .. such as Mousso / BlueJuante for models .. Linday / OTT for hair .. fpr example .. Secondly, have a look around at what OTHER people (not associated with the creator) are doing with assets .. so look at peoples galleries on the Daz website, DeviantArt or here on KZbin and see if they've marked down what models / assets they've used .. But don't just look at the "good" artists .. look at those who maybe aren't as good .. if they models they are using still look ok despite other areas of the image being open to question - then you can probably surmise the model / asset is good .. But sadly! .. it's put your hand in the lucky bag and hope for the best a lot of times!

Viewport Line Tesselation is your friend when it comes to improving the Daz Studio performance as you move about the scene. It works kind of like SubD; so set it to 1 for viewport and then 3 or so for the actual render. Improves viewport performance quite a bit.

@@RaukoDaz3D :D good choice. That said, even of the most high-end of rigs, dForce hair can bring everything to its knees if not kept under control. I've not quite worked out exactly why, but SOME hairs just completely tax my system where others do not. It's not simply a "dforce or not" type of thing, it must be something specific to the way it has been authored.

I think I see the problem .. the hair simulation seems to finish too early before the hair has settled in place? Firstly, check out the sim settings within the directory within Daz where the hair is located .. Things like Sim Settings and Density .. they should give the hair a little more weight and push it on a bit .. Secondly, if you're doing a Current Frame simulation, then check the dForce Simulation Settings itself .. have a play around with some of the sliders in there .. for instance, incrementally increase Stabilization Time - this effectively tells dForce to take more time on the simulation .. push it up to 3 or 4 .. even higher if you need to. Sadly, doing an dforce Simulation over an animation time-frame doesn't allow you to play with Stabilization Time by default as it becomes hidden .. right click on the Simulations Settings tab .. select Preferences and the Show Hidden Properties and Stabilization Time will be available (although it doesn't work as well on a Animation simulation) ... If that isn't enough .. if you're doing an Animation Simulation .. after your model is in their final pose .. add an an extra 60 or 100 frames onto the timeline ... Daz will usually fly through these frames when simulating dForce due to their being no movement .. but the hair will continue to settle and stabilize with the more time afforded to it.

@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 9 ай бұрын
Sorry .. I never got a notification for this one! "Character save" or "Character Preset" will only save details about the model .. the geometry, the morphs, the textures ... and not dForce hair. To save out the entire character (with the deforced hair) you'll need to save as a "Scene Preset" .. When the dialogue opens up .. click on the top right "hamburger" menu (arrow and 4 lines) .. select "Uncheck > Uncheck All" .. and then back in main dialogue window, click the checkbox at the top level of your model (ie, "Victoria 9") that you want saving .. and hit Accept .. That will save everything connected to the model .. simulated hair included

@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 11 ай бұрын
In the scene tab - is it JUST the cap you can see or can you double-click on the cap in the scene view and expand it out .. you should be able to do this and will see the hair proper listed. In the viewport Is it JUST the cap or do you see a few strands of hair hanging from it? In the viewport texture view - then that's all you'll see. If you're talking about Iray Preview - you'll need to select the haircap in the scene window and then in the parameters tab - go to simulation and set Preview PR Hair to ON and then go to Line Tessellation in the Parameters tab and and set "Viewport Line Tessellation Sides" to an appropriate number like 3 .. If you're talking about when you hit Render .. make sure you have the Translation tool selected (the icon with the 4 arrows in a cross) .. there's a bit of a display bug with Iray / Daz that having certain tools selected don't make other things work .. It's one of my gripes in Daz also. Although, to be fair - made-for-dforce clothing goes along at a semi-decent speed. It's the older stuff that goes real slow. But there's a lot of geometry in this type of hair with lots of collisions - hence the slowness! Ah well - can't have everything!

We have to also remember that Daz is free software using various components created by other companies (ala QT and NVIDIA Iray) compared to other software like Reallusion .. so, they put their efforts into the assets they push .. But, yet, things need to improve in some areas .. Hopefully, with Daz 5 (.. whenever that is) - they'll be a lot of improvements simply by using a better version of QT GUI it's built upon ..

Making a simulation is taking me forever. It takes like an hour, though maybe it's because the full body dress is also moving with physics.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 8 ай бұрын
Hey there - a dforce sim can take a while depending on a few factors .. firstly, your graphics card. Yeah, dforce uses your graphics card to simulate and so a slow GPU can slow things down .. secondly, the amount of simulated items in one go. The more you try and simulate simultaneously the longer it's going to take. Ok, simulating each item separately might mean each item simulates quicker but overall the time is going to be the same doing them one by one. But doing them one by one will get you quicker results for each. Thirdly, if you're doing simulation across the animation timeline as opposed to a single-frame simulation - it's going to slow down a lot. If your doing it over 30 frames then it's effectively doing 30 simulations as opposed to just the one. Yes, you'll get a much better final result in some situations .. but it's just going to take time - especially if things in the scene are moving as Daz will have to calculate all of that as well as the simulation. Finally, some items are just badly optimized for dforce - even if they are said to be "dforce" ready. Sadly, nothing can be done about that and you just have to wait your time! If you have any other questions ... then just let me know!
@Siwkann

@@RaukoDaz3D hey how can I filter what to simulate? Yesterday was my first time attempting to use Daz and I'm fascinated by the possibilities. Will try making more scenes these days. I'm sort of expert in HS2's studio which is unity based and daz is somewhat familiar. Unlike blender.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 8 ай бұрын
@@Siwkann There are a couple of ways to filter out whether something simulates or not .. 1 - You can just hide an object. So for instance, lets say you just want to simulate the hair .. you can hide any dfore clothing your model might be wearing. Look up in the Scene Tab and find the dress and see to the left of it there looks to be an "open eye" icon? Give it a click (so the eye closes) and the dress should get hidden. Now - when you simulate, the dress will be ignored. 2 - A little more technical. Click on the dress in the Scene Tab - If you now look in the Parameters > General tab below the Scene Tab - expand out the General section and if the dress is dForce ready you'll see a "Simulation" option. Click on this and in there you'll see a Click Box called "Freeze Simulation" which will be set to OFF by default .. switching it to ON will freeze the dress and not include it in the next time you run a simulation. IMPORTANT NOTE! If you are running the simulations one by one .. Make sure you Hide or Freeze any previously run simulations as dForce when it starts to sim resets everything. So if you've done the hair .. FREEZE IT .. before running the sim for the dress .. Otherwise - you'll end up having to do the hair again!
