Pole dancing originated a long time ago for fitness. However later on it became associated with strip clubs because of the lack of clothing needed for safety. You want to wear a small amount of clothing for grip. It’s really sad to see the sport get so sexual and always be linked to stripping. But yeah, it was supposed to be for fitness

as a recent beginner to poledancing, it really is a very athletic sport. you need great strength and training to be able to climb the poles (and stay up there). in regards to what you can wear, it is easier when you wear less clothing, so the 'costumes' may need to just be a sports bra and some shorts, or you can do it in leggings and a t-shirt if you've got the strength to not need extra help in regards to sticking to the pole. i think it's totally fine for the family to be learning this together, as long as the kids aren't pressured into it and they can enjoy it.
