Lemme tell you why i think most pageant mothers should not have rights over their children. 9:06 Take this horrible woman for example. Probably since her daughter was born, she forced her into this diva lifestyle and basically convinced her child "life is about winning." This is not a healthy mindset for a child because they start thinking every other kid, even adults are their rivals, they become corrupted and vain. And how old is she?? 4?? 5?? She went missing for an HOUR and the only words her mother could muster is "I was scared she was going to miss her show". EXCUSE ME?? This triggers me so much because its like she thinks of her daughter as an object. Children are not OBJECTS. They are real, small human beings with emotions, emotions that they don't know how to control and pageant moms do such a bad job at raising them and making sure they mature with age. When you get pregnant and become a mother, it is your JOB to raise your child in a safe environment where they can learn & grow properly. The fact that moms force their kids to basically strut around in tight fitting clothes with layers of makeup on their face for MONEY is disgusting and unhealthy.
@Acorn_0 Жыл бұрын
In addition the only reason this child went missing is to reach out to her grandmother and tell her how miserable and unhappy she is with her mother and this lifestyle. She went missing for an hour because she felt she needed to sneak away to reach out for help to get out of this abuse. AND ALL HER MOTHER CAN CARR ABOUT IS HOW SHE RISKED HER PAGENT CAREER?? And then when she came back the child looked legitimately scared to return back to the mother and clung to her gran instead. AND HER FREAKING MOTHER GOT ANGRY AT HER FOR THAT! As somebody who’s come from a household that has a parent like this (not the pageant stuff but the parent’s mindset) I can say there is nothing more painful than expressing discomfort in how you are treated and being made to feel like it’s misbehaving to stand up for yourself. It is awful and can damage you. Many pageant mums have this mindset and it is SO harmful I can’t even.

It’s toxic and none of these kids actually understand what they’re doing. They’re being forced whether they say it or not and these parents are doing it for self gain all while sacrificing their daughters happiness. These girls can’t even consent as they don’t even know what that word means. Pageants are toxic and my daughters will not be put in one🤷🏼♀️

Pageants definitely encouraged my eating disorder when I was younger. I actually relapsed in college because I made homecoming court and I couldn’t afford a new dress. I forced myself to lose enough weight to fit into my dress from 8th grade. 5’6 and 90 lbs isn’t a good look. 😞 Thankfully I went to residential treatment to get the help i needed and my family didn’t let me enter any more pageants throughout college. I wanted to do the beauty review but I know I can’t handle that kind of situation. I definitely think pageants are toxic and kids are so easily influenced by it. Sorry for the long post, just thought I’d share how pageants hurt me.

Cassidy I’m so sorry you were put into pageants that young and they were so harmful to you. I had an eating disorder when I was a teenager, and while I recovered pretty quickly comparatively to others, I got a glimpse into that world. You’re an amazing person for being able to pull yourself out of that. I’m so glad you’re here today and thanks for telling your story.
@cassidylouwerens17686 жыл бұрын
Y’all are all so sweet. You have no idea what it means to me. ❤️ for anyone struggling I can’t recommend Canopy Cove Eating Disorder Treatment Center enough. I’ve been in residential treatment centers all over the country and Canopy Cove in Florida was the one that finally changed my head for good. The way they approach recovery is so different than any place I’ve ever been to and I still use everything they taught me to cope when I’m having bad days. I know treatment is so scary and living away from your family and your home for months can be so intimidating that you don’t want to go through it, but if you truly want to get better you can be better with the right help. You’re all beautiful and amazing people and I wish y’all the best. Make 2019 the year you get your life back. I let a weight scale and numbers and laxatives and everything else take my childhood away. When I came home from treatment we had an “unbirthday cake” because of how many birthdays I had where I refused to eat. It’s the most empowering thing to be able to eat a donut and not hate myself. If you’re reading this and you’re having a hard time PLEASE don’t give up. My ED took everything I had for 8 whole years. It isn’t worth it. You will never be happy. Once you reach that goal weight in your head you always have to go for more. Go lower. Still not good enough. You ARE good enough. ❤️

Lacie’s grandma is more of a mother to her than her biological mother. When she was trying to calm her down and get her to cooperate with the situation, Lacie’s mom comes up cursing at her. “I am NOT happy right now”. Not even the least bit concerned about her daughter’s wellbeing. It seems her grandma knows more about calming her down than her own mom does. “She wanted to talk to me outside about asking her mom to get off her case, which she does a lot”. That’s devastating.

@SneakySalaXander6 жыл бұрын
Aiyesha Badesha Unfortunately. I’m from Georgia so it’s very common here. I’m 22, and remember doing one benefit pageant at age 8. The proceeds were going to an Atlanta pediatric ward to help treatment of kids with long term effects of Cerebellar Ataxia. This was something that hit very close to home, as I was treated at the same hospital for the same disorder at age 2 and they saved my life. I was more than happy to do the pageant and give back to them because it was serious. Anyone could enter the pageant, whether it being first timers or seasoned competitors. The seasoned competitors’ moms didn’t even give a damn about the benefit, as I heard MANY of them back stage saying they only cared about their daughter getting the crown. It was disgusting. You could see on their daughters’ faces they actually cared about helping kids their age with motor skill disorders that prevented them from doing everyday things. They didn’t care about the crown. One mom came up to me and said I shouldn’t be competing because her daughter was prettier and skinnier than me. Her daughter was mortified and apologized. She ended up winning, and after hearing that I was one of the kids who happened to be saved from this disorder, stopped me as I was walking out the door with my “best smile” award and crown. Took mine off my head, and placed her winning one on my head and we took pictures together. She was so sweet. She didn’t have to do that, but knew this pageant had a deeper meaning for me. She didn’t deserve the lecture she got from her mother after, but kept smiling my way to let me know she wasn’t mad with her actions. I still have the photos. I still suffer with minor issues due to the disorder, like vision issues and sometimes motor skill malfunctions. But I’m one of the lucky ones. Every time I think about pageant videos of kids, I think back to her and hope maybe someday they grow to be like her, despite their parents’ malicious intent to treat them as trophies rather than little girls.

Child beauty pageants are nothing more than an outdated southern tradition that are sadly just as popular and traditional still today. I’m from California and I lived in Texas, and my Texan husband said it’s so normal there that no one thinks it’s weird or oversexualizing children.
