I saw them in Montréal on April 13, 1970. No cello bow for Page at that time but a weird drum solo from Bonham. People start booing when he start playing with soda bottles. Not sure if it was the bottles after his hands or simply that 20 minutes solo was way to long.
@funkster0073 жыл бұрын
@@Jaycee-Bee As great as Bonzo was, I just could never get into his long drum solos. Maybe because they weren't necessary as he was dynamic enough during the songs. I knew he played parts with his hands, but bottles does seem a bit odd, even for him. Now Moon I could understand.lol

I'm now 73, and while I like many new artists, Led Zeppelin, the Who, and the Rolling Stones will forever be the high water mark of passionate, moving rock. If you're new to Zeppelin, look up their history and listen to the many different iterations that they posessed over the course of their career. Lastly, watch their Celebration Day reunion concert with Jon Bonhams son on drums in his place. Amazing that at their ages, they still got it!🙂

@George Duffy Okay bro, when they got sued for it they settled and paid. However who can possibly claim that these 4 musicians were NOT pioneers forging a road never before heard. They basically took from what inspired them from the African American blues and Soul from those Fathers of Rock and Roll and remastered and paid them homage. They were inspired but to say they plagiarized is too strong. Jimmy Page took an entire genre of old Delta Blues and turned it into a Rock sound that is only his and the groups. Go ahead and criticize them if you want but if you name an artist, any artist that came up with a classic hit, ask them to tell you truly..."who inspired you to write that music ?" Everyone arrives on the shoulders of those that come before us. Finally, l appreciate that Led Zep re-introduced back into American audience OUR AMERICAN LEGENDARY SONGS and l guess it took musicians (Led Zep, Stones, Cream, WHO, Floyd,etc) from the UK to fully appreciate that Delta Blues sound.

This was on their first album, released in summer, 1969. I was 17, and it still blows me away 52 years later. Every song on that album is a classic and well worth listening to. The singer, Robert Plant, was only 20 at the time of recording. Previously, although he’d been singing in local blues bands near where he lived in the Midlands of England since he was 16, he was an ‘unknown’ until Jimmy Page (guitar), found and auditioned him for the New Yardbirds, soon to change their name to Led Zeppelin not long before the first album’s release.

I grew up in the Netherlands with this music in the sixties, I am now 67 and it is so good to see young people like you experience the same feelings we had as kids when this was new. Remember that Led Zeppelin amongst many others "created "a total new type of music back then. Think of Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Moody Blues, Cream, The Doors etc. They all, together, with many other (mainly) British rockbands brought something completely new. My parents were listening to Frank Sinatra - type of music and although they were very modern in their time, they did not understand this type of music at all. To make you understand the importance of for instance Led Zeppelin, I would recommend you to look at de clip from 2012 when the 3 still living members of Led Zeppelin were honoured in the Kennedy Center by Ann and Nacy Wilson from Heart, with their version of Stairway to Heaven. Robert Plant was a blues singer of no small fame already as well and Bonzo Bonham... they had to rein him in at times and he learned that easily and created some of the strongest works of his all too short career. The amount of incredible songs and the range of music they came up with was legendary. This was not unusual in those turbulent and fantastic times... We'll likely never see that again, but at least we can experience it via sites like this. We had AWESOME times back then (I was 16 when these came out) and created memories that will always bring a smile and admiration when we hear them as we move through this life... :) Sushi, Glad you're getting to hear what we loved and grew up with. It's far better than much of what's out there and also beats the news to a pulp... ;)

Fun fact about Bonzo: Both he and Robert Plant grew up in the Midlands, and as a result were good friends with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler from Sabbath. On occasion they would jam together, but Sabbath's drummer, Bill Ward, HATED it when Bonham would ask to play on his kit because John Bonham pounded the skins so hard that he would always break something. -Read it in Tony's autobiography. 🤣🤘

This song came out 13 years before I was born. I grew up listening too it and others by Led Zeppelin. I s'pose I really "discovered" it for myself when I was a teenager in the mid-late 90's.

Welcome to the world of Led Zeppelin. They set the standards for production and power rock blues. I bought the album while in high school when it was first released. My mouth dropped open listening to the album for the first time. It's still open now.

My kids were brought up on this music. One's 37, and the other is 42. I took the 42 year old one,when she was 16 to see page and plant with Egyptian orchestra behind them she loved it, along with her friend and our friends. It was important for her to see them I believed. I believe you would have loved being in our musical generation. Page and plant really play off each other so well. I was 16 when this came out in around 69 I think?

I was only 1yrs old when this song was released in 1967. More than likely the first time I actually heard it the first time was probably when I was around 10yrs old or a bit older and either in a car with friends on the way to the beach (So-Cal), or while kicking back on the sand at the beach with friends. Led Zeppelin is one of my all time favorite bands I grew up listening to. And back then those of us kids who listened to Led Zeppelin were often ridiculed and called "devil worshipers" by people who listened to bands like The Bee Gees, Captain & Tennille, Donny & Marie, ect.. Which I'm sorry but it still makes me laugh. Anyway, seeing how your response was when listening to this song, I would just LOVE to see your response listening to Led Zeppelin's "You Shook Me". I recommend listening to, KZbin video: "Led Zeppelin - March 27, 1969 - You Shook Me (Beat Club) (Promo Video)"

What a great reaction. Everyone has a soundtrack to their lives and for me, this is a very important band. I was 15 years old when I purchased this first album from Led Zeppelin. It was a game-changer from the first cut to the last. This was early 1969 and the members were very young in their early 20’s. It was British Blues, the sound was heavy, bluesy, soulful, sung, and played with such obvious passion. I was not quite prepared for them but instantly loved this new sound. I had listened to the Yardbirds, John Mayall and the ‘ even saw Cream but this was different. Thanks for listening to this great music!

I remember listening to this in late 1969 driving around downtown Memphis after seeing "2001 a space oddessy", tripping on acid. I was 18 at the time, on my way to Veitnam. I love seeing your reaction to the music I have loved most of my life. Mike

4 When the song came out, 11 when I first heard it (thanks to older brother) and 16 when the world changed forever. RiP John. It is so great to see a new generation "discovering" the beauty that my age group grew up with and to be honest saw as normal. This was indeed a special time for popular music and I wish I had appreciated it more at the time but thanks to you and other similar channels I am getting to relive that joy vicariously again.

I was 13 when this was first released, and it was my 16 year old sister who bought that first Zeppelin album. We only had a 'Dansette' record player, which was a cheap Japanese portable mono record deck, it was like a big blue vanity case(Japan stopped producing them that same year as more sophisticated products came through). Never got to hear this track in stereo until about a decade later when I got my own stereo system and had my mind blown all over again. What Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were doing was a 'call and response', Jimmy played a riff and Robert matched it with his vocal, this ad lib trading of licks was a key part in many of their live performances. In the big ending build up, they riff in unison at that point. Did you also notice in the breakdown that the bass and drums were trading beats too? John Bonham was following John Paul Jones' bass riffs and matching him.

Okay I am 60 years old this is from like 1973 and yeah this was the best can't tell you how many times we enjoyed listening to this at a party on a record player unbelievable stuff welcome to the seventies. This was the time. When rock and roll was being perfected there's so many bands at this time. And led Zeppelin was one of the very best

I was 13 years old, in 1971. The music of Zeppelin wasn't played on the radio, at least, where I lived. Radio was AM radio and top forty, which was Motown, and the Beatles, etc. So, my older brother was a drummer in a band, and he had a huge album collection, and late one night when I was alone I put this on the record player. I was transformed that evening into something else..into someone else. Perhaps, the Beatles began some kind of transformation of me when I was 5, a kind of musical child. And now, Zeppelin turned me into an older being. It's odd to look back, 50 years, and still remember how the world was viewed through a different lens after hearing this music. A complete paradigm shift. I, actually, thought that I may have broken something inside me. But it was just a confrontation with genius. I was changed.
