@George Duffy you mistake self- indulgence for what was expected by the audiences of that time: extended great guitar solos, charismatic frontmen, heavy drums and bass. Zeppelin hit at the perfect time for a guitar driven hard rock band. @zosomoso3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeB12800 pre ‘75 Page was flawless live. Though the ‘slop’ was always there because he had that shoot from the hip approach to playing unlike most of his contemporaries who were more risk averse when improvising. I think he was the only player to truly understand Hendrix’s approach in that regard. They were the two biggest risk takers and you hear mistakes in their playing everywhere. But with high risk there’s high reward and for every patch of crabgrass you’d get a garden of roses. But I agree the fretting finger injuries and heroin/alcohol abuse did not help him from ‘75 onward.

@@zosomoso a lot of people were improvising live back then. Robbie Kreiger, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour. Sure I’m missing a lot
@zosomoso3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeB12800 Oh for sure absolutely, I’m not saying nobody else improvised. But most of the time you’re hearing pentatonic scales hence what I mean by “safe” improv (nothing wrong with that!). The margin of error is narrow with pentatonics but you hit a glass ceiling for shape and color. In contrast Page was experimenting with blending modal and eastern scales in alternate tunings while improvising onstage which gives you a much higher margin of error. I’m not saying that’s better than sticking to pentatonics, just that there are benefits to Page’s approach which I’ve grown to appreciate. Clapton, Gilmour, and Krieger are all incredible in their own regard, I’m a huge fan of all of them. Terry Kath is another improv player that I’ve really come to love lately.

My young sister now you can understand why a lot of us have been mainlining LZ for all these years. For me personally over 50 years These guys were and still are an absolutely astounding band. When you listen again, and I know you will now, try and peel back the layers of the music and hear the mastery each member had of their art. Where to start, John Paul Jones is one of the greatest musicians in rock. Keyboards, mandolin, bass guitar, to mention a few instruments, he was simply magic. Then what about John "Bonzo" Bonham, what an amazing drummer. Helped create, along with Jones, the platform that Jimmy Page could play his soaring guitar solos on. Jimmy was the counterpoint to Robert Plant. He and Paige would do call and answer on numerous LZ songs, including this one, listen close at around 4:50. Robert Plant is without a doubt the finest vocalist rock has ever heard. Thank you for your reaction to this cut, you just might have introduced a whole new group of young people to The Mighty Led Zeppelin. Be well and safe, peace to you and yours.

There is just no band like Zepellin, they blow every band away, they set the benchmark/standard for playing live. Look up Woodstock and you can see how crazy it was in the late 60's. Many of the great bands played at Woodstock. Hell Yeah!!!! Hippies everywhere making love and enjoying the music and life. I am 69 and lived through this music.

First, never heard of Led Zeppelin??? Ok, forgivin'. One of the greatest rock bands ever. Not only that but all the musicians were considered the best in their field and their music was all over the place in terms of style and genres. Some of the most complex arrangements you'll ever hear. Welcome to Led Zeppelin. Glad to have you on board.

You just listened to the greatest rock band that has ever walked this earth. Not even a close second. I always love your reactions. I’m only half way through though so, back to it lol.

Every member of this band is considered top 5 goat at their disciplines. No other band ever could claim that kind of firepower and diversity. I've seen just about everyone, but this band was very, very special.

Fair enough. Although IMO there is and American Band I think you can put in the same sentence, as far as firepower, and diversity is concerned, but they had 7 members, which included 2 guitarists, and 2 drummers. The Allman Brothers Band. Original lineup.

The best way I have found to experience Led Zeppelin... your beautiful significant other, a bag of mushrooms, stack all your Zep vinyl and listen til they all drop, flip the stack and repeat .... makes for a night beyond description ... best medicine for quarantine

Whole Lotta Love from this concert is stunningly awesome. When Jimmy starts manipulating the theremin your mind will be blown. The entire MSG concert this is from is the pinnacle of the rock mountain.
