One of my all-time favorite films. Saw it when it came out and recommended it to a lot of people. A lot of people didn't get it or they thought it was just too "small" of a film. I still consider the last minute of the film to be one of the most touching, classic, lump in the throat moments in motion picture history. I still say "alright then" often because of this film LOL. Dwight Yoakam is one of my favorite performers and any film that can make me hate him , LOL, is damn good. "You will be happy", "Little feller".....chokes me up every time. A masterpiece.

Nice video, well done. Me,my dad and brother stopped by Gary's Slingblade today for lunch. We sat where Billy Bob and John did. I've ate there several times, good food, definitely recommend it! Also passed by the Wheatley house on the way out,it's close to the football field, watched many games of my brothers playing ball there. I go to Benton quite a bit and see these locations often,my Mom lives not far from these spots,I always think of the movie when passing by, it's very dear to me and my folks. Benton has changed alot though, over the years. Anyways, great video,it was neat to see the comparison of then and now🙂 Oh,and by the way in the dollar store scene where Karl and Vaughn were talking, you can see a blue Jeep pull up in the back. That was a friend of my brothers, just thought it'd mention that, lol,Thank Ye🙂

I've watched you for awhile, but just ran across this! I've lived my whole life in Benton. The Dairy Queen was owned by my Aunt Mary. The bus station was run by my Mammaw Ruby's best friends. I cheered many games at that football field CW Lewis Stadium and grew up eating at Gary's Drive In formerly The Whopper Burger. The lawn mower shop was next to Dairy Queen and was once a VCR/TV fix it shop. The old Struble place was used as Carl's dad's house just down from Gary's Drive In out Hwy 35 by my Mammaw Ruby's house. The Nervous Hospital is out in Haskell, which is also Work Release Prison too.

101% right there with you. Things changing is a bummer. I logically get the whole "moving forward"/Progress (thing) BUT I honestly feel that there is HUGE value in keeping some things the same. Roots, history, stories to pass on, feeling connected - all totally important. and let's be honest, not all change is progress.

This was so much fun! I live pretty close to Benton. I'm guessing the reason a lot of those places were torn down is due to the increase in population. Benton is an easy commute to Little Rock and a lot of people who work in LR, moved to Benton for the schools because the LR school district has had issues for years. Thank you so much for coming to Arkansas!

Angelina Jolie was there walking around in the camp where he worked, and he spoke to her, but didn't realize who she was at the time. I watched this the other day and didn't realize until now, that Carl was going through what you have been going through while trying to line up all those shots. Carl was trying to find familiar places like you were, only to find that things have changed and all that he knew was not around anymore. And I also find it ironic that Carl was staying in someone's shed as his parents did, but only this time, someone actually cared for him, and that shed became more of a home for him than his real home. He was literally starting out with a clean slate, except everything was wiped away and he has only the clothes on his back. Too bad he had to kill that dude, but at least he set things straight and is back to the only place that accepted him--jail. A masterpiece of writing.
