I met Gregg Allman in the mid-70s. It was 75 or 76. He opened the door and greeted me when my boyfriend and I arrived at a friend's house in Macon. I had no idea that he would be there, but my boyfriend did. He and his childhood friend had pre-arranged for Gregg to open the door when we arrived. I nearly had a heart attack! I remember his piercing blue eyes, fur trimmed jacket and snakeskin boots. A couple weeks later, I was driving to work and some guy kept pulling up alongside my car and staring at me from a white van. When I was about to exit, I took a quick look and it was Gregg. He pointed at me, laughed and waved. What are the chances he would happen to pass me on 285? I named my first born daughter Melissa as Sweet Melissa is one of my favorite songs. I still live in Atlanta, in Roswell now. The Allman Brothers were one of the best groups there ever was.

Hi Jordan and Mom! This is the first good look I've had of your Mom. She looks younger than I had expected, and very beautiful. She looks so cute being so excited about being there, but my guess is most of the happy is from being with you! To Mom, thank you for raising such a nice son. Jordan is very kind, considerate, and respectful at the various sensitive site and vlogs he does. Hope you both enjoyed your road trip and precious time together. Safe travels home.

I can't tell you how excited I was to find that you toured The Big House! My dad raised me on The Allman Brothers Band, they're my all time favorite. I saw them in concert every year from 1991 until 2014 when they retired, and I still have every single concert tee shirt that we bought, which was every year lol! I've also seen Govt Mule and Tedeschi Trucks Band many times over. Fun fact; Kirk West was the unofficial/official photographer for ABB for many many years, hence why there's so much memorabilia there. 🍑🍄✌️❤️

Greatest southern rock band??? I wouldn't even consider them a band, & I definitely DON'T consider the crap they made music!! I'm over 50 years old, & I definitely listen to the BS they called music, & I use the term "music" lightly when referring to the noise they made!!

Wow that’s so cool! I told you my dad was in Waylon’s band in the 60s and early 70s. He also hung out and played with the Allman Brothers band. He worked on a few of Dickie’s solo albums during the 70s. Bonnie Bramlet was my god-mother growing up. I still see her from time to time whenever I go back to Nashville. She is such a cool lady with awesome stories from the 60s. She always sings backup vocals on my dad’s albums. Her voice is still as raspy and raw as it was way back in the day......

That Gretsch bass drum head that you can see at the top of the stairs at the 12:21 mark belonged to Jaimoe and was given to Gary Forkum, former owner of Fork's Drum Closet in Nashville TN by Jaimoe himself... After several years of it hanging in his office at the drum shop, Gary donated it to The Big House for everyone to enjoy..

And the beat goes on! Great job Jordan! I will send a link to your ABB blogs to Donna, Dickey Betts wife to share with him. They live about 2 miles from me here in Sarasota. Jerry Wexler lived about 1 mile from me on Siesta Key @ Riegles Landing when he was alive. Super nice guy! One night I pulled up next to Ahmet Erteguin at a stoplight just over the bridge, after he had left visiting Jerry. His NY licence tag on his Mercedes said some abbreviation of Rock N Roll. He was special. Obviously you are visiting the crash site, and likely Rose Hill for the 3 graves, and Elizabeth Reed. Lots of their promo shots were taken there, and at the railroad tracks next to the river. The house that they shot the first album cover is just up the street, and the first house the lived in got tore down recently after being boarded up for years was right next door. The garage where they had the choppers, and jammed behind the house is still standing last I looked. Just south of town is Middle Georgia Raceway at Byron. It is where they had the 2nd Atlanta Pop Festival. Bigger than Woodstock. Hendrix, Spirit, Grand Funk, Johnny Winter, and much more, and of course ABB. There is a historical marker there now, and the raceway is there, but overgrown. Keep up the good work. If you are down here some day, I will see if Dickey will meet with you, and there are many historic ABB sites. Next month Graham Nash is selling Duane's 61 Les Paul SG at auction in Hollwood at Heritage. It was promised to a local guy, Gerry Groom, who followed the band kind of like a Dead Head in the early days. Duane had said if anything happened to him, he wanted Jerry to have it. When he died his widow sold it to Nash.

Everything on exhibit is just spectacular!! 😁 Watching this took me back to life as a 70's teenager living in Colorado! Good times for sure!! Greg Allman had one of those voices, like Garcia, that could make you break down and weep!! I never knew that Jamoe was not allowed to stay in some of the same hotels as the other band members...just such a shame but the Allman Brothers helped break down barriers by being non racist and inclusive to who was in the band. Love the tudar style house and the stained glass is sublime! Mama Louise's cafe what a gem of a place!! I would have a hard time narrowing down what to order too, because it all sounds delicious!! You enjoy Jordan and I'm glad your mom was able to fulfill one of her most desired "bucket list" visit wishes!

Glad I saw this video and I thought I would share a little info I picked up through the years about the Fillmore East album cover photo. That picture was shot in Macon, not at the Fillmore, right behind Capricorn studios and they were having a terrible time with a very demanding and humorless photographer. DIckey even cursed him out at one point. But the rest is true. They wanted nothing more than to finish the photoshoot and get away from the guy holding the camera. Not too many smiles throughout the shoot because they just could not get along with him (proven in another shot at the same location where they are all dead serious in it. But Duane's dealer did was by, just as the photog was getting ready to take the next shot, and Duane ran up to him and bought that bag of coke and returned to where he was sitting. He is actually holding it in the palm of his hand when the photo was taken and it caused all of the rest of the band to break out in laughter. Thought I would share it with you. I have been a fan of the Allman Brother's Band since 1971 when I bought the album Eat a Peach and actually learned to play slide guitar by listening for endless hours to Duane's flawless, liquid sounding solos. Couldn't think of a better person to learn from. Again, thanks for the vids. I enjoyed them.

I was able to visit The Big House 2 years ago, just 3 weeks before Gregg passed. Duane's Gold Top that was in the display is actually his "Layla" Gold Top used when he recorded the song with Derek and the Dominoes. It's not always on display there, as the owner wants it to be played, so it's often on the road and in the hands of a lucky few players that get to play it.
