It seems to me as if you didn't really understand the movie at all. The spirits didn't destroy the dam, Anna did. And the old black soldier (can't spell his name right now), he was a personal guard to her father (who is dead), do you really believe he would fight against doing something a Princess (in a blood line to the throne), wanted to do? His only job is to follow orders, the now dead King gave him an order to protect the Dam, which he did until his next boss gave him new orders. Elsa's mother didn't have any powers her children, Elsa and Anna was a blessing to her for helping an enemy (that the spirits didn't want fighting). The reason Elsa froze is she went to deep into the memory of the past. The whole point of the story was Elsa and Anna had to correct the wrong that their grandfather did. It took both of them to do it. Elsa also didn't make Anna the queen, Elsa stepped down from being the queen which she never wanted anyway and Anna was next in line. Far as Kristoff goes it is hard asking a woman to marry you, and he just wanted it to be perfect, Anna was a Princess and he was just normal citizen.

I think it's all of it together, so everyone can feel nostalgic I guess? I really love the song, honestly, even more because everyone complained in the first movie, that Johnathan Groff didn't really get a chance to sing, which like...I feel, ya, his voice is everything, so Disney just went "ok here's a fucking music video, you're welcome"

fun fact: part of why it was unsettling is because it’s the dies irae, which is a Gregorian chant from the 13th century which symbolizes doom, and you’ve probably heard it more than you think, one of the most popular examples being in the shining. it’s amazing how Disney knows how to make the perfect musical decisions to appeal to the most audiences possible.

In the song, it says "Secret siren" which is in Greek and I think Roman mythology. The Sirens use their beautiful yet intriguing voices to lure their victims to their unsettling deaths. Elsa was first smart to not follow the voice, yet she gives in to the voice and goes "Into the Unknown."

*Spoilers:* 16:43 The gift wasn't the Queen becoming the Ice Spirit, the gift was her daughter becoming the ice spirit and with Anna, became the bridge between the worlds. Iduna (was their mother's name, I think) was gifted Elsa and Anna by the spirits and Elsa's powers, yes. The voice is Athahallen calling, via their mother's voice (because the river holds memories). Since Athahallen is the birthplace of Elsa's powers, that river is a part of her. So that's where Elsa feels most comfortable (which is kinda weird, right? It's just ice). So it was her magic calling out to her with the memory of the lullaby to connect it to her mother. I guess I mean it's her magic and in spirituality her mother calling out to her.

Some of the questions you're asking were actually pretty well explained in the movie in my opinion. 1)Anna being queen didn't come out of nowhere. At the begging of the movie, Olaf mentioned that nothing lasts forever, meaning the current state in their lives, and Elsa mention that she didn't feel like she belonged where she was. Both of these moments foreshadowed that Elsa was leaving the gang for a greater purpose, which meant Anna would be queen. 2)The other spirits weren't involved in the destruction of the dam because it wasn't their mess to fix.The humans had to do it. Anna tricking the earth giants into accidentally destroying the dam doesn't really count as them being "involved." 3) The ice spirit wanted Elsa to know the truth and lead her into that death pit knowing she'd die because it knew that Anna would save her anyway. The spirits blessed Queen Iduna with 2 daughters, both of which were meant to fulfill their destinies and part Anna's destiny was to save Elsa. 4) Elsa didn't just "get out of the pit somehow." Anna broke the curse that kept everyone, including Elsa trapped, and the water horse gave her a ride out. 5) I'm pretty sure Elsa also figured out that the dam needed to be broken and figured that Anna must've broken the dam since that was the only logical reason that Elsa came back to life. Therefor, it's not really odd that Elsa immediately knew to rush to Airendel to save it. 5.5)And the physics of how she stopped the flood was because Elsa made a giant ice wall. 6) Elsa knew Olaf was dead for the same reason Olaf knew she was dead. because They're a part of each other. When one falls, the other one can feel it. (Edit): Wow, over a thousand likes? I wasn't expecting so much support for this. Thank you all. I even thank those of you who disagreed with me.

@nonyabusiness3619
@nonyabusiness3619 4 жыл бұрын
@@gaytrise Actually, it DOES mean the movie is good. Unlike other "kids movies" it doesn't spoon feed you every detail. It allows you to figure it out on your own. The only way I was able to make those logical explanations was because the movie provided plenty of evidence. Everything in the movie that was absolutely crucial for us know was flat out told to us by the characters. Everything else, such these questions he's asking, isn't really important to know but they can still be easily figured out if you pay attention. Like seriously, who cares if Anna becoming Queen at the end came out of nowhere? (which btw, it didn't come out of nowhere) Why is the movie required to warn him ahead of time as if it somehow affects the plot? He's just complaining just to complain.

Elsa was the ice spirit because ice bridges all of the elements together. It's solid like rock, a form of water, is carried by the air, and douses fire. We see these interactions in the film before the "bridge" narrative is confirmed to us so we can see how she interacts with each of these. But she and Ana were both the "bridge," as she herself states in the final act. And the voice was actually her magic, the magic of the forest and of herself so in a way, it was part of her. Her mother wasn't an element, but was rewarded with magic in the form of her daughter. They confirm that the people in the film don't actually have magical connections. Ana used her human courage and leadership ability to be the "other side" of that bridge. Which is why Elsa gives the crown of Arandelle to Ana. Personally, I think the only thing this film was missing was more time. They actually hit on a fantastic bit of world building at the end of it all and they needed more time to explain these elements (pun intended) naturally.

When Olaf asked Elsa at the end if they're finished with their adventures, Elsa confirmed this so I'm thinking that was the writers blatantly stating they're not interested in doing a sequel. At least, not with these same characters.
@PlanetZoidstar
@PlanetZoidstar 4 жыл бұрын

@@PlanetZoidstar It does, and they did. It amazes me that the team insisted on actually making a story that serves as a fantastic sequel to the first. Honestly, they didn't need to write anything nearly this good and they would have probably made a ton of money regardless. But they did. I personally found it to be much better than the original. The characters were deeper, too. And they didn't have to develop them at all to make money. Kudos to them for that.

@@lotusthemermaid I somehow doubt the team behind Frozen had any say in the movie being made, to me this smells of corporate mandate because Disney loves money. Call me a cynic but the plot is so inconsistent and yet convinient that it doesn't feel like the team made the story their main priority. If they felt they had a story they badly wanted to tell I doubt they would have waited 6 years to tell it. Frozen had a complete ending with no real room for a sequel, everyone lived happily ever after. I'm glad you could enjoy Frozen 2, but it just didn't do it for me.

“Into the Unknown” was fantastic. Easy fix to Kristoff: in the scene when Anna holds a dying Olaf, have Kristoff find her because he's been searching for her the whole time. He sees her struggling to find a healthy way to handle the deaths around her and her own grief. He tells her a story about how his parents died and how that affected him, and that even though he was grief stricken, and still is from time to time, he met the trolls and her in the process of everything. They have a sweet moment of collective grief and comfort in each other and then Kristoff asks her if she wants to go back to Arendelle and she says no, she has to right the wrongs of her ancestors first. Then they both help each other escape and devise a plan together to destroy the dam, not knowing Elsa is still alive. For all Anna knows in the scene, she's now the queen and has to do right by her kingdom, even through her grief. Not only would this make the narrative richer, we'd get to know more about Kristoff and see him and Anna become more close through tragedy, something that romantic couples do in real life all the time that either brings them closer or pulls them apart. It would make their relationship feel more mature and real. All we know is they've been together for a while since the last movie, but we don't really have any satisfying interactions between them. They missed a great opportunity for that scene to contribute to character development. I think the movie's biggest problem is they aren't very smart about condensing scenes and having every line and interaction count toward development and narrative. Most scenes feel empty.

When Elsa asked “Do You Want To Build a Snowman?”, that was probably a callback to the original, but there is reason to why she would say this. In the beginning child Anna tells child Elsa, “after this we should build a big snowman” or something. It was also sung to Elsa in Frozen, so it’s not entirely breaking the 4th wall.

I went to see it with my girlfriend. She didn’t like it all, claiming it was boring and that she wasn’t engaged. I personally loved the film, I thought the soundtrack was a improvement and I immediately bought it on CD. Finding the root of Elsa’s power was a great idea to explore. I think it was great that they finally gave Elsa more lines and more depth than just a scared girl with powers.

you remember the original story „The Snow Queen“ from Hans Cristian Anderson, on which is based Frozen? because Frozen 2 took alot from the original story: 1. The River! In „Snow Queen“ Gerda sacrificed herself to the river due to find her friend Kai, who was stolen by the Snow Queen! 2. The Elements! Gerda had to go through 4 stations of her journey before finding Kai. First she met a flower witch, who represented Spring or Air. Next she met the princess of dreams who represented Summer or Fire, and thirdly a raider who represented Fall or Earth. Last was the Snow Queen herself which represented Winter or Water. so you can see Frozen 2 was even more accurate to the original story than the first movie.

On the voice calling Elsa. My interpretation is that this was actually Elsa herself. If I remember correctly, Elsa even has a realization that the fifth spirit is calling her. During into the unknown, it is established that deep down, Elsa does feel out of place (even if this should’ve been established a bit before the voice). Anyways, I think the voice was Elsa’s deepest desires reaching out to her.

During Anna's coronation (They had a really big missed opportunity) C. When Elsa comes to Arendelle for charades (When I say that aloud, it sounds really stupid) or D. Have Arendelle DO get destroyed by the flood, and have a montage of the citizens rebuilding Arendelle, and making it greater and stronger than ever, with making it a hub for spirits and humans to live in peace!

I think Kristoff's main roll was to be that support that Anna needed after The Next Right Thing. After Anna sings about having to force herself to move forward even when her main motivation leaves her and she feels her depression closing in, his first words to her when they meet up again when the giants are chasing her is asking what she needed, and immediately follows it without question. He's a support for her when she lost the main one she was clinging to Elsa.

The first movie had one big sone to me. The second had a handful of big songs I can relate to. What I didn't get about "Let it Go" was my girl was running away from her responsibilities and why did this become a power ballad, except that I later understood that people were treating it as meta, so okay. Both Elsa's songs "Into the Unknown" and "Show Yourself" moved me, and Anna's song "The Next Right Thing." Christoff's 80s rock ballad was good too. The movie's first Act was a bit slow for me so I was waiting for the inciting incident[s] and "Into the Unknown" did it for me. In it, I got that Elsa had suppressed her powers, her identity, into her adulthood and now she yearns to know more, so it made sense she would succumb to that curiosity and realize suppressing it more was her being in denial. And "Was that the memory of her mother?" ... well, "Water has memories" and Athahollin is an ice cave. "Do you want to build a snowman" was Elsa's attempt at starting an apology to Anna for forcing her away because she thinks that would protect Anna, as she had the attitude of doing when she was a child, when we went through that song in the first movie. I thought it was a nice callback.

YES I LOVE "Lost in the Woods". Reminds me of "Chicago" the artist. Also I disagree with the whole song analysis. Yes it was "formulaic" but not in the usual "Disney Sense". The only song that felt "Disney" was "Into the Unknown". I felt like the other songs were formulaic in a sense that the way they were written and composed would feel right at home at Broadway. "Show Yourself" sounds like it honestly could be placed within "Wicked" with its themes and surging power as the song goes on. "The Next Right Thing" is a real slow grower, but it reminds me of a rated G version of "I Dreamed a Dream". Also I never thought that their mother was the ice spirit. I feel like that was the island projecting itself with something familiar to Elsa which is why we have that whole memory sequence represented by sentient ice. I felt like the Ice Spirit is like a force of nature waiting for someone to take on its trial. Atohalla itself I feel is like the original spirit and acts as a rite of passage for a person to be deemed as the ideal vessel. Edit: I was honestly fine without there being a villain. Made the film feel more grounded despite the obvious fantasy and mythological elements. It was more about rectifying the "sins of the father" type of deal and how actions of the past can affect the future generations. For a positive affect, we have an Atohallan and Arendellian marriage and kids to follow, but on the negative effect, the enchanted forest becomes sealed off and traps two factions that seemed to be in constant feuds for 30 years. Elsa's Into the Unknown kinda felt like a "How Far I'll Go" realization. She doesn't know why she feels she's being called and despite being a bit introverted and still feeling out of place from time to time, she is very hesitant at first due to her sacrificing comfortability. I mean yeah eventually the voice does nag her and sparks her curiosity but I can see how you would feel like it was forced.

Yeah, at first it felt like a regular Disney film but the final half is where all the emotion starts to come in, from the "Show Yourself" scene where the mother reveal showing that whatever she is looking for to find purpose in life has always been within her, then the Anna scene where she learns to stand up for her own after living in the comfort of her friends and family for so long, then the conclusion about where we have our then inseparable sister duo now two lands/worlds apart yet still part of the same coin as the fruit of love between two separate opposing worlds (their parents).

Personally I feel like Into the Unknown represented a moment of choice: to stay in Arendelle or follow the Voice. In the song, she goes over her options, looks deep into her heart, and chooses to follow the Voice. It is a “complete 180”, but when you pick a path you walk on it, and this song represented Elsa picking a path. So basically, it made sense for her to change her mind. She decides that her inner desires want her to go, and she chooses to go.

You don't need to commit murder, suicide, convoluted plots, adultery, genocide, etc. to tell a story. Disney is popular for that reason. They don't feel the need every story needs a drastic fucked up ending to appease to the "we want more edginess" crowd. I really liked this movie. The soundtrack is amazing, the animation is beautiful. But I do think the plot was all over the place, and was confusing at some points. "Show Yourself," (amazing song, btw), is supposed to be the big moment revealing where Elsa's power came from. But Anna had already revealed it next to the shipwreck, Elsa's powers were a gift, because of their mother's noble deed. One other thing, I think that Arendelle should of been destroyed by the wave. The shot of Elsa saving it is super cool, but I think they could of ended the movie with a "Some things never change" reprise, with them rebuilding the town. The theme being, all sorts of things change throughout life, but some things don't, such as love, friendship, and teamwork.

The way I see it, Elsa did not just randomly accept the voice. In the song, she sings something like “where are you going don’t leave me alone, how do I follow you into the unknown”. While singing this, she’s also watching her powers and the snow/ice show her many images. Considering this, I think she was so entranced and tempted by the beauty of what her power produced that she was kind of enchanted in a “hypnotized” way to accept what the voice wanted from her. That’s why I really think frozen two was so special because it provides such a good story that you can see from the visuals.

Not gonna lie, for Frozen 1 narrative wasn’t it’s strong point either, so I’m not mad at this one for its narrative flaws. I mean, Hans from the first film felt forced as the twist villian, so his whole thing was a flaw, esp, that scene with him under the boat after he fell.

Why do everyone call them Avatar's spirit's? They were all the original 4 elements in Greek mythology and Space connected them, not Snow, which really makes no sense. They have been used in many pieces of media, INCLUDING Avatar.

The thing that I like about Kristoff is that he's truly the supporting character rather than the Disney princess + romantic interest main character duo formula. When Kristoff first sees Anna again when she's trying to lure the rock spirits, he does his best to truly support her cause by asking, "what do you need?" which I think is so powerful honestly. This is Anna's cause and he wants to support her the best way he can by letting her do her thing and he be the support and do what she says. It's a nice touch.

It looks better, it does some interesting stuff with the story, and Olaf is improved. But, Elsa being the bridge element doesn't make much sense, I don't know why earth has multiple beings, Kristoff had a shitty plotline, and the ending was disappointingly convenient.

The choices of the different forms of the spirits are more going towards Norwegian legends such of the Nokk (water horse) or that salamanders are frequently used as a representation of fire for some examples.

I felt this film was reaching the end and the story writers were like, “Oh Yeah! We need an ending” and they rushed the ending and tried to tie up loose ends. They did it pretty well but there’s something missing like you said. I felt that the ending was formulaic and too good to be true. I’d still Iike to see more development in Elsa and Anna though

Not only that, the first film feels so different from this one that it almost feels like two different franchises, other than having the same characters and setting at times. Elsa used her powers only to defend herself in a drastic situation in the first film, now she's blasting them around like a full-on superhero queen.
@Alex-up9dj
@Alex-up9dj 4 жыл бұрын
@@thunderbird1921 I feel like the reason to why Elsa uses her powers much more in this movie than the first one is because she has now a different view on them. She used to see them as a curse and something dangerous that should be controlled absolutely so she would use them only in drastic situations. But now she sees them as a part of herself that shouldn't be kept away and hidden. She realizes that her powers make her who she is so she eventually comes to term with them and accept them as a part of herself. She now has no shame in using them since both her and the people around her see them as a gift. I find Elsa's evolution truly marvellous, she has grown a lot from the first movie. She doesn't run away from her problems anymore and find the courage to dive into the unknown to truly find herself and where she belongs. I don't think this movie makes no sense or was rushed. True that the rythm is a bit fast but I think Disney managed to find a good balance.

I think Ahtohallan (a place made entirely of ice) has its own consciousness and can communicate with people through memories and voices from the past. Edit: also, I think all the spirits being very different was the point. Each has their equal place, but those places are different and each spirit is what it is to match their elements' niches.
