If you’re into your double-decker trains you should check out the new DesiroHC trains by Siemens used on some of the RRX Lines in North Rhine-Westphalia. They‘re pretty unique. These Bombardier double decker trains are so common in Germany it’s really hard to get excited about the Twindexx ;)

Note for history buffs like me: Flensburg is the city where Grand Admiral Doenitz established a continuation of Germany's government after its surrender at Reims on May 7, 1945. In addition, its concentration camp was where Admiral Canaris was sent after he was apprehended for his role in the assassination attempt on Hitler on 7/20/44. Canaris was tortured and executed at the camp. Canaris's assets were confiscated by the Nazis as an additional punishment for his role in the attempt, known to us history buffs as Operational Valkyrie. If you've seen the Tom Cruise movie, you already know what happens to the bomber, Oberst Graf Claus Stauffenberg. Note: "Oberst" means Colonel in German, while "Graf" refers to "Count".

"you were lucky, that you were able to ride with the new Twindexx [...] there are only a few in service yet" The Twindexx is the only train on the RE7 and has been the only one for quite some time now (like 2 years?) There are 14 or 15 in service* right now - including RE70, with no more to come. * Depends on the definition of "in service". There should be 16 in total and only 15 are necessary for both RE7 and RE70. At least one or two still have to be repaired and one only has 3 coaches instead of 4 like every other Twindexx. Not to mention that sometimes they have to undergo maintenance.

I have a dilemma about this services, here in Chile there is a service with similar distance and duration, but the trains used have a config like an S-Bahn, it is less comfortable but the ticket costs 3€ and they are usually packed. So, ¿is it better to offer a high quality product for less people than a more accessible product for more people? Maybe a benefit of the last one is that if you have a high demand, you can offer more frequencies, and you get a more competitive and flexible service. What do you think?

Very nice and in depth reports! Any chance of trying some central-eastern-ish railways like CD or ZSSK? What is more, I had a misfortune to be seated in the single-decked front part of the train near the powered bogie. The sound of traction motors is very loud and really annoying, and the train vibrates violently when accelerating. Why are you calling regional services a “product”, like it is by DB Regio? Regional trains in Germany are 100% subsidized by the states, and they also decide how the train looks like, the seat distance, whether there’s a toilet onboard etc. DB Regio is just fulfilling the contract with the state and not running the services using their own money. Importantly, the ticket prices are also set by the local transport associations.

the exterior colors of German trains keep getting uglier every year . The worst example are some relatively new regional DB trains in the east that are mostly black with signal red doors -- a very unpleasant atmosphere especially when they pass by , almost threatening . Truly a symbol of disrespect towards the majority of customers and approved by the boards of DB .
@GoogleUser-yy5er5 жыл бұрын
Yes I guess your train was nice but traveling by train isn't always so easy in Germany. The biggest problem is that like 65% of their trains are delayed Most of the Trains are full and you must sit on the floor. And the Prices are really expensive. So you can pay over 100€ for your ticket. And most of the DB-Trains are really dirty inside, and most of the toilets are so dirty that they're just unusual. But you has luck. On the other connections in Germany, they serve more private companies that have better and cheaper trains and routes, but not so much routes like Deutsche Bahn [DB] (German Railway [DB]). So your DB-Train isn't always so fine like that (😢) But I hope in a few years, all DB-Trains are like that! Nice travel!
