This is a great video. Honestly best one i found. Im hoping you can help me with an issue. Ive got a 6.9 idi. New injectors, 26k miles on ip, no air intrusion, correct fuel delivery. My problem is the combustion or injection noice will randomly increase while driving. The noise goes back to normal when i lug it, gets very loud when i let off, and back to normal when idling. Does not miss or smoke, has the same amount of power. But does not sound healthy. Hurts your ears, 83dB under the hood

Hello! Thank you for your feedback, based on the information you have provided the best thing I can suggest is check your exhaust manifold AKA headers at the connecting points. You're going to be looking for suit (black carbon) build up. If you can find this this would be a sure indication of an exhaust leak. This is the best suggestion I can give. Another reminder these engines are becoming older and older, and they do make a lot of noise in general. Another suggestion I want to make is considered the oil you are putting in. Degrading in oil will always amplify mechanical noise. I suggest picking up some diesel heavy duty lucas at your local convenience auto store. Best of luck friend!

@21:55 4500CC per sec? miniute? what is the time frame for that flow rate at idle?
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained 9 ай бұрын
Not sure about that bud, but at idle when you crack open the injector not fittings you should have plenty of fuel squirting out even at idle and crank

Is there a difference between a IP from a 1986 and a 1993? I have heavy white smoke on start up weather it is hot or cold??? I blew the oil return line on my 6.2 and lost the engine so I bought a rebuilt 1993 6.5l with turbo and put it into my 1986 GMC Serra Classic. The 6.5 did not have a IP so I took the IP off of my 1986 6.2 and put it on the new rebuilt 1993 6.5l... it runs very good but has heavy white smoke when I start it up and for several minutes after, weather it is cold "OR" hot. Could this be because of timing or is there a difference in the IP between the 1986 and a 1993?
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained 3 ай бұрын
@highdesertink1993 gotcha, no they're all the same what is different is the tuning which the 93 is only turned up off the factory line to compensate for the turbo air to fuel ratio. White smoke, commonly on these old beasts it is unburned fuel atomization . If it was on a combustible I would lean more toward white smoke questionably being a head gasket leak burning coolant and if you do you need to check your coolant reservoir
@highdesertink1993
@highdesertink1993 3 ай бұрын
@@ChaosExplained I don't loose water, the reservoir is nice and green... the smoke smells like fuel not sweet? The smoke goes away after a wile but it does smoke every time I start it up hot or cold? Could it be that I need to turn the IP a degree to the left or right?

@@highdesertink1993 I wouldn't go tampering the adjustment on the injection pump just yet do you have any Blow by once the engine is warmed up you could also have a sticking fuel injector fuel injector let me know what kind of blow by you have once warmed up. Yeah if it smells like fuel not sweet and it's white and then goes away then it's at least one cylinder that's simply not combusting the fuel that's in it

Bluish/white smoke, combined with a misfire, would that be caused by a worn injection pump?
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained Жыл бұрын
Blue is oil, white is unburnt fuel being atomized. Focus more on this: Misfire is due to a lack of combustion event happening in a particular cylinder. Why? Either lack of fuel from 1 injector(s) and or damaged mechanical parts affecting the flash point that is required for ignition.

Hey first time watching, liked the breakdown and details. I have an issue with a Detroit diesel 6.5 2000 model Chevy 3500. I’ve worn out 3 PDM’s in 6 months, I pulled the intake to change out the “Pigtail” wire from IP to PDM , screws into the back of the Injection Pump, Now the truck will not start, I’ve tested glow plugs…great, I’ve tested the fuel solenoid I seams to respond every time key is turn on. I have confirmed fuel all the way to the top of injection pump, I’ve disconnected lines at injectors no fuel….. trying to rule out entire check list before I bury a 1000.00 into a IP. Advice ?? Thanks , Luke

Just bought a 93 7.3idi with 83k miles runs good and sounds good but it smokes thin blue smoke at idle. It goes away when on the gas
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained Жыл бұрын
Could be a couple things here. Since you just bought it no telling what the previous people had in the fuel tank. Since you can run these engine off of raw engine oil in the diesel fuel that is right I just said that it will burn blue. Adding other things will also make it blue idling. Blue equals oil, since it's at an idlel I would either say it's what I said above OR the umbrella seals are leaking oil from the valvtrain, OR there is a head gasket issue but it is unlikely

@@ChaosExplained thank you for replying back. Do you think it can possibly be due to dirty fuel. I just did the fuel heater delete yesterday and found a bunch of rust particles in the fuel filter.
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained Жыл бұрын
crish02 yea definitely change out your fuel filter. Before you go jumping into it I would suggest watching a crash course on it. Basically the gist of it is make sure you fill it full of diesel fuel before you put it back on otherwise you'll be cranking the hell out of your engine to get it Prime backup and all of the air out of the lines. I have seen it on my own truck where it was puffing some blue smoke lightly until I changed, the fuel filter.

Excellent man! I appreciate you putting together this content. Ive been having an issue with my truck and was hoping you could chime in. It fires right up but it misses and smokes like a freight train for the first 3 minutes that its on. It sometimes misses on one cylinder and other times its multiple. Generally it stops smoking when its warmed up but it does intermittently put of a small amount of a white / blue haze. My mechanic wants to just jump in and change IP right away but I'm broke and a little apprehensive. Do you have any thoughts?

I am having an extreme issue with ABSURDLY rough running, lots of smoke, greyish white, and a really touchy and surgery throttle. Any ideas? Just replaced the pump with a Pensacola reman. The problem did not exist beforehand
@ChaosExplained
@ChaosExplained Жыл бұрын
My very first suggestion is bleed off the air that's probably trapped in the lines! You just undo the hex nut at all of the injector fittings while it's idling. If it's idling too rough, have it run for just a moment so I can build up some pressure then turn it off. then bleed off one hex nut at a time you'll see here into your Air seeping out with a little bit of fuel. Some injectors will be worse than others

When I'm coming off a mountain at 55 the longer I'm off the throttle the longer it takes for me to get throttle back. Hit fuel nothing happens until rpms drop. What is likely the problem? 87 cucv chevy 6.2, runs great otherwise
